This deal is still available.
Does anyone know if this HD drive is compatible to use as an upgrade for the Replay TV 5040's that many of us scored recently? |

I just upgraded mine today with this drive. It took about 15min. easier than when I did my TIVO upgrade. |

Does anyone know if this unit can be used in the Replay 5040's? Any places where a dork newbie like myself could get really easy instructions (preferably with pics) on how to do this? |

WD homepage says Caviar SE editions are 3-year warranty.
It is an SE drive. So it's a 3-year warranty. |

"All Western Digital-branded retail hard drive kits, with the exception of WD Raptor drives, carry a Standard Warranty Period of one (1) year unless indicated otherwise on the package. Western Digital-branded WD Raptor retail hard drive kits carry a Standard Warranty Period of five (5) years."
Oddly enough, only OEM rives carry the 3-year warranty now. |

I think it's warm but worth it because of the superlow hassle factor - don't leave the house, one reliable rebate, and that's that.
In my case it's more worth it since it's going into an enclosure. A combo enclosure is $40, and there's a limit to how many of those you want running at once (expense, noise, power, space, etc.).
Fill up this drive with cd-rips, then see what the prices are like for another 250 gb drive + enclosure.
I'm sure it's skippable if you like to auction stuff off, or just don't need a drive anytime soon, but I'll take it over a ymmv deal any day. |

I have my xbox with a 250GB running here with a Xenium chip with X2 4981.67 bios.
Using all 250GB Baby! I have 67 games on the HD now. Room for another 20-30 I think.
My friends asked me to upgrade their xbox's, so i was looking for a deal on 250's. >>

Just received another dreaded : "We have reviewed your order. Although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay and will not be able to ship this order and any associated orders until on or before 3/31/2004." Since the coupon needs to be postmarked by 3/27-04, very fun. And Dell still has the product listed with 3 weeks waiting time. That borders false advertising now doesn't it.....!?!? Called Dell and asked for explanation. Answer is [hum hum...] that a diffirent coupon than the one on the website will be sent with the box [BTW, the rep could not even see that coupon] with a 30 day from shipping date line.... right .... `-( Then after I formulated my doubts, she proceeded to say that Dell would pay the rebate anyway if there was a deadline mistake ... Of course she could not send me an e-mail confirming all this " there is a firewall blocking all outside e-mail..."
Once again, Dell C.R.X.X.P at its best ...... would be curious to see when other people get the same e-mail
I'll stay in for a bit waiting to see if they ship earlier than that, which has happened....
BTW, thanks OP. Small note Since small business, "+tax" would be nice in the title. |

I suggest everybody check their serial number against WD website and make sure you have the ATA controller with it. |

I spoke with the Western Digital Rebate Center (1-866-327-8352 incase you wanna bug them), and they said they wouldn't guarantee that they'd honor the rebate if I mailed it in late because of Dell. (If it got shipped after 3/27/2004, I also got the shipping delayed notice until 03/31/2004).
Spoke with Dell Customer Service AND Dell Sales and neither of them would help ... Best I got was to wait a week incase they get more stock. Lovely. The first time I called Dell Customer Service they said that the rebate would be honored and that if it didn't Dell would credit me the money for the drives. The second person I talked to said that she couldn't guarentee that unless it was a Dell Rebate... and this is a Western Digital Rebate. The sales rep said the same thing, no guarentees.
Will keep an eye out, but the Maxtor FDB 250gb HD from Outpost.com for $150 after MIR is sounding mighty tempting... Practically the same performance but with the fluid bearings it should be a lot quieter! |
