Check out your "salvage" place - ASU sells bikes that are left chained at the end of each semester. Got a specialized there for $15... YMMV greatly, but do check your local school/large business salvage place. ASU salvage also sells old computers, equipment, office furniture, sweaty clothes off the backs of athletics teams

Good idea in starting the thread lostdude, now we just all subscribe and not get passed up. Saw the Performance one on Techbargains. Where do those things come from?

There's a hot deals forum on mtbr.com, looks like that's where coupons are coming from

Thanks virtuamike. That does appear to be the source! Also, they talk of the 30% Nashbar that was good last week (with the 20% + another 10% code). Hope you guys got in on that.

How bout the tirreno bikes at Perfomance? They are already marked down 25%. It'd be nice to get 20% off the already marked down 25% bikes.
Just verified. Coupon does work for the triple 105 bike. comes out to like 670 bucks
Hmmm.. I looked over my order from that 20% off 5 items + 10% coupon from Nashbar. It looks like they took out the 20% off discount.
Also, checking back, all of the items I ordered all already had ~20% off, so I don't think I'll bother calling them up to complain about $4-5.... Oh well.

I am a mountain biker most of the time, but I also commute to work by bike sometimes. I am getting sick of riding my slow MTB to work so I am thinking of getting a road bike. Can any of these coupons (or something else) get me a ridiculous deal on a fairly GOOD road bike? (Of course, not being a roadie I don't even know what a good bike is.)

Just used that 20% off coupon from performance, saved $12, thanks OP!
There are some good stuff on sale now. This was my order.
join some of the bike newsgroup (rec.bicycles.*) and see what their opinions are. (This is not the forum for it...)
Anyways, eBay is a great place to get cheap bike parts and bikes. You just have to know exactly what to bid for, and when bidding for used stuff, make sure you know how to install/fix whatever comes. eBay will get you cheaper parts than any of these 20%/10% coupons.... Always look on eBay first. If you can't find it (and need it right away), then get it from Nashbar..
thanks bamx2! Also re mtb vs road bikes, when i upgraded from my k-mart special (the frame broke) to a trek 4500 mtb there was a big pickup in speed. So the quality of the components and weight of the bike is a big factor. Also road bikes are much more delicate, i wouldn't think of bringing my roadie to commute, i'd be libel to get myself killed.

Code number 6000387 is good for 20% off of $50 orders or 10% off on a bike. Expires on December 31, 2004
Anyone have suggestions on buying a new bike? i'm looking for a full suspension bike in the $400 price range. local to San Fran if that matters. i've been looking on craigslist and eBay but nothing is thrilling so far.

not sure of your size but i think if you look hard enough on cl you will find something that works...also not sure if you want a hard tail or fs bike...
Anyone know if the coupons work in the brick and mortar stores? I'm in San Diego and a bike tune-up runs $50 at the few stores I've called for pricing.

I remember last year that REI usually has an 'end of season' clearance. I can't exactly remember, but I thought it was around August or September. They had some of their bikes on sale. I am looking for a Trek, but I'm willing to wait for a sale.
Does anyone remember?

Cool huh...
What brand of bikes are possible to bid on at UCD?
whatever was left chained to the bike rack at the end of the year....\\
here at the UW, if you leave your bike chained up year round outside you'll have 1/2 a bike by the end of it
seat will be gone, front/back tire--whatever's not chained down, thanks to quick release wheels

I tried using this coupon "Coupon: 20% off $50 or 10% off bike. 506000387 [12/31/04] [credit to jasong] ?one time use?" from performancebike but it said it had already been used. The second coupone worked fine though.
