Nice find! Still have the ND-2500A which records at 8x but 8x media still isn't cheap.

yeah just found that out. OP should change to include that

... wait, you were OP. haha. put the W on the title too if you don't mind

With certain firmware hacks...you can get 4x Ritek G04's to burn at 8x. I've burned 25 of em' with no coasters.

yeah, but in this case it'll need a firmware hack AND a prayer to burn the 4x stuff at 16x

I wasn't expecting this for another month or so. My 16X Pioneer DVR-108 got here Monday. Now I am wondering if I should have held out for this. Any reviews or comparisons of the 2 drives yet?

People...just hold on for a few weeks.

as evidenced with the 2510A, that thing was dropping in price on a weekly, if not daily basis. Just hold out and it should fall in price as well.

anyone think there will be a problem with me returning the 2500 i just bought to buy a better, more expensive dvd drive?

aargh When will I buy my DVD burner.. as soon as I decide on getting one, they bring out a faster one.. Now as soon as I decide to buy this one.. they will come out with 32x for 90 bucks.. and I am back to square one.. aarghh..

Correct me if I am wrong, I thought 16X is the max. of DVD buring speed, like 52X (or something like that) is the max of CD burning speed.

Here is a comparison of Pioneer and NEC

I have heard that 16x is basicly the usable limit for DVD-+R. Anybody say otherwise?

Woops, looks like I was a little to slow. I think I am right.

I've been waiting for this for a while, I cant believe newegg got it that fast.

The pioneer is a bit faster than the NEC at 8x, but at 16x the NEC is better than the Pioneer. Plus NEC puts out frequent firmware updates.

nice!

Anyone body having problem checking out?
when I hit submit order, it goes back to the checkout page.

I just ordered the 2510A 8X from them *this morning* for $69.99! Just got the tracking number on it so too late to cancel the order! Crap!

What timing I have....heh heh.

eBay has it for buy it now $84.99. HERE

....$15 SHIPPING

Oh man, i forgot to order the free DVD-R's that newegg is offering, so i canceled my order. Placed another order with the free DVD-R's. My new order has already been charged and ready to ship. Newegg is fast!

Beat ya! Haha, I read that in PCMag, which I got for free right from FW.

Too bad it writes dvds in Z-CLV. You can see from the review that
quality is not so good. It does cds in CAV though.

Still waiting for plextor 716

maybe im wrong but the nec dvd burners have if not the best darn close writing quality on dvds

darn...i cant return my 2510 no more...darn it!

Ripped from cd forum:

"The ND-3500A writes at 16x CAV on both DVD+R and DVD-R, however, when writing at 6x, 8x, and 12x speeds, it uses Z-CLV. I believe that Z-CLV delivers better burn quality. The ND-3500A's Z-CLV 12x strategy isn't slow either - much quicker than Pioneer's 16x Z-CLV strategy (~6min34sec vs. ~7min19sec)!

In summary:
DVD-R: 16x (CAV), 12x/8x/6x (Z-CLV), 4x/2x (CLV)
DVD+R: 16x (CAV), 12x/8x/6x (Z-CLV), 4x/2.4x (CLV) "

For for information see this thread

Darn. did not see it. Already charged my card.

If anyone is looking to dump their 2510 in place of this, drop me a PM. I may be interested. Please include your final price shipped.

Thermallc, they charged my card as soon as i ordered it. I'm telling you these guys are fast. I then tried to call newegg so they can add the free DVD pack, but they were closed. So i logged in, canceled my order, and re-order another 3500 with the free dvds. I received a cancellation email immediately followed by another email saying that my card had been charged for the new order.

so is there no way we can return a 2500 even if it were bought less than a week ago?

Nice price on a good burner. Too bad I just picked added an 8x from an OM deal a while back to my system...

I guess you can RMA it, or if you have AMEX platinum, you can use their return protection program, or last but not least, you can sell it.

maybe i can sell it to my dad... he mentioned something about wanting to get one sometime. yes.... eeeeeexcellent

Does this drive comes with burning software?

MagicalDeck said: Does this drive comes with burning software?

comes with NOTHING else. and when i mean nothing, i mean nothing. no cable, not even drive-bay screws.

Hi, i've wanted to buy a dvd burner for a while. I narrowed it down to Pioneer dvr-108 and the old NEC 2500A model. Now that the new one is out, I think im gonna go with this. But I'm still new to this(no idea what/where to get info on firmwares, what Z-CLV is, etc), you guys know any sites/forums that have newbie faqs for dvd burners and firmwares in general? Thanks!

For burning speeds to increase you most likely need to adjust your DMA
Lots and lots here

justaguy said: Purchased 50 Philips +DVDs 2.4x at Circuit City a while back for $9.99. Some people reported burning at 4x and 8x on these disks , media code CMC MAG.R01 .
Anybody using NEC 3500a to burn these faster than 2.4x ?
I tried a few newer firmwares and none of them will burn these faster than 2.4x .
