i got beaten by $2, just after about 3 weeks, will newegg refund the diff?

btw, the rating for the black version has been increased from 4-1/2 stars to 5 stars now, most reviews from very recently purchases. I dont know how they can post such great reviews just after couple days of using....

I dont know why my drive makes so much noise when it spins the Cd/dvd, and most reviews said "extremely quiet", dont know how they come up with that. To me whenever it spins or load the cd/dvd, it make the noise like spinning fan, and it's just like my other cd drives, same sound/noise level. is it considered extremely quiet?

also, the drive will keep spinning any dvd you have in there whenever you turn on computer for a period of time, doesn't matter you play it or not, thats not quiet for me.

first the price updates so I don't get yelled at for turning this into a how to thread.

NEC3500 OEM Beige 68.99
NEC3500 OEM Black 70.99
NEC3500 OEM Silver 73.00
NEC3500 OEM/w software Beige 74.00
NEC3500 OEM/w software Black 74.00
NEC3500 OEM/w software Silver 75.00

undefined ... Thanks for the help... to clarify for myself (I am a newbee for dvd backups)

The steps are...
1) Buy NEC 3500
2) Use your link to the MadDog firmware and download the TDB patch version, the one that is at http://tdb.rpc1.org/#ND3500A and will report the drive as "_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG 2.F8"
3) Get/Buy Nero
4) Use DVD Decypter to Rip
5) Use DVD Shrink to Burn (mine won't rip don't know why.. I thought it would)

This is tons of help CD Freaks 3500 threads
Remaining Questions
* do I need to do anything with Bitsetting? I don't get it
* The TDB patch will increase my ripping speed correct?
* What is the best media to use
* anything else?

for the silver model, is the tray (the thing that hold cd is silver as well?) or only the front plate? And is this burner loud when reading/burning?

Question: Ijust ordered a DVD home video player, and it can record in DVD-RAM format.

I wonder if I can record a TV program on the DVD-RAM disc from my DVD home player, and put it in my computer's DVD burner, and burn an ISO (or extract the video on the disc somehow), and re-burn the video on the computer in DVD-R format? Because I want to backup the TV programs I recorded on my home video player to DVD-R, that is why I wonder if it's possible.

But...so far from what I see, this 3500A can't read DVD-RAM format, am I right? I don't care if it can't burn DVD-RAM, but I do need a burner that can read DVD-RAM...

then you should go for Pioneer DVR-108D, just as popular as this drive, and reads DVD-RAM for about $5 more. Both these drive wont disappoint you.

Purchased 50 Philips +DVDs 2.4x at Circuit City a while back for $9.99. Some people reported burning at 4x and 8x on these disks , media code CMC MAG.R01 .
Anybody using NEC 3500a to burn these faster than 2.4x ?
I tried a few newer firmwares and none of them will burn these faster than 2.4x .

alert mods

For burning speeds to increase you most likely need to adjust your DMA
Lots and lots here
