They really don't do a whole lot on signup. Being nice and asking kindly they might waive the activation. But just sign up for the month to month and call back on day 29 to cancel. That's what I did.
Call XM and ask about the Onyx radio with the vehicle kit. It's on special right now only if you're an existing subscriber and call in for it. The price is $19.99 for the radio(retails at $80) then you pay shipping, 3 month recurring subscription(which is $29.97 with multi radio discount for existing subscribers), activation fee of $15, music royalty fee and taxes. After all is said and done comes to around $80. If you buy the same radio at best buy you pay $80 for just the radio and still have to pay for the subscription, activation...........on top of that. It comes with everything you need to set it up in the car and if you get an AC adapter you can use it in the house/office as well.
I got a deal as a new XM customer for 1 year. I called the number on the website and got through to someone who sounded like they were from another country. I inquired about the $86 deal and was told that was only for existing customers. I got nowhere with that person. Next, I called 1-800-682-4114 - which I believe is their renewal number line. I told him I wanted to sign up for new service. He took my info, then told me about the rates which were the regular rates. I said I had a co-worker who just signed up as a new customer for about $100. He asked to put me on hold - was on hold for less than a minute. He came back and said my receiver did qualify for a plan that was $111.90 for 1 year including all taxes and fees. Good enough for me!
Best Buy lame ass seems to be phasing out the XM stuff. Guy there said people just listen to pandora. I cant do that. What radio is best and where to get it for XM????

Translation: Satellite Radio hardware has become commodity and prices are too low to sustain Worst Buy's egregious profit margins.
Me and other family members got new cars this past month. We all got 3-4 months free.
Should we wait until that expires to call in it do it now? If we does it start after the free trial?
A couple of the radios have not been registered as far as I know. One of them was registered by the dealer and they been calling and emailing, so not sure if we should register in any case.

Tia.
I called about two weeks before the trial expired. That is when they will send you the mail flier anyways (this was back in a few years ago)
Talked the person, (US based), and got his pricing etc, then I stated about the deals $77/year which I did not want to keep calling every 6 months, and he said he can do, I also kindly asked about adding internet for free and he accepted. So voila. Cheap and rocks. Since I got the satellite radio, I just can not imagine a car without it. And having the app/internet included makes it even better.
Previously had the 5 mo/19.99, forgot to call and cancel when it expired about a month ago. They charged me $28.14 for 3 months on 1/23. I just called 1800-347-0600 and said I wanted to cancel, and I was transferred to an operator in Nova Scotia. I told him I wanted to cancel because the new rate was too expensive and he immediately asked if I would stay if I could stay on the "same" rate of 24.99 for 5 months. Although this was actually a higher rate, I figured it was close enough so I said yes. He then said that since I had already been charged the 28.14, I had already used part of that for the month or so since January but that I had a credit of 22.55. He said he would just give me a credit (2.45) to make up the difference to $25, so I actually paid nothing new today. So, in reality I paid 28.14-2.45=25.69 for a few days short of 6 months, or about $4.28 per month. Not bad! I had also been charged 8.26 separately, which he said was for the internet subscription I have. He said that was for 3 months, so that works out to about 2.75/mo. I thought I was paying 2.99/mo for that (and I also thought it had gone up to 3.99) so we'll see.....but all in all not bad for a 5 minute call!
I just called and got the XM Premier 5 month renewal for $30.00 + taxes. I got sent to the cancellation department and expressed I wanted to cancel because of the high premium for listening to Howard Stern. I then mentioned the only way I would stay is if I could get the 5 month for $30 deal that was "emailed" to me. The offer was then accepted. Thanks everyone!
Don't Ever give them your credit card numbers. Buy a prepaid XM Sirius gift card at best buy and pay with that. Ask them to bill you. I had XM before the merger and always did that. I didn't like the ideal of the re-occuring charges on my credit card. Never a problem.
I left them after the 2008 election for Internet radio but decided to try it again this past Christmas. Ordered an XMP3 radio and service but the battery was defective. Called support and they had me send the entire radio back with an RMA. While waiting for replacement a CSR ordered a different radio on my account and had it sent somewhere else. When I noticed the charges on my credit card I called them to have it removed. They credited a different card for the charges that wasn't even mine. No one has any clue as to how the credit card number got associated to my account but they won't credit me the amount they charged to my card. They told me I had to call Discover Card to fix it. (I don't even have a Discover Card.) Of course they won't give me the credit card numbers because it's not my account. Discover Card won't talk to me because I don't have the numbers of the account in question. Now I'm stuck in limbo while their 'FRUAD' department tries to figure out what happened on their end. I'd say the entire company is a 'FRUAD'. This has been since December and is still not resolved. Just a warning.
called in today to cancel, just got an additional year for 94.20 all fees included - $7.85 / month.
Slightly higher than my offer from 2/28/2011 of $85 - but the renewal notice indicated additional fees so I'm ok with this new rate.
I'll use my Citi Dividend to pay this since its currently giving 5% back on Utilies (Utilities are defined as providers of electric, gas power, water supply and refuse services, cable and satellite television and radio services, and wireless/telecommunications services.)
I bought on Onyx at WalMart for 58$. I did the month to month on card and had to pay the 15 activation. I did it online. The guy in Bangladesh wouldnt give me a deal. If I threaten to quit after a month,do you think they will do a year for about 100???
Purchased 2011 Chevy Impala. It came with a 3-month trial subscription. The trial is ending at the end of next month (3/28/12). I started looking for subscription discounts. I found this thread and called 1-800-682-4114 as given on the earlier post. It was a renewal line. The rep started giving me the normal pricing. After the rep finished, I immediately mentioned I heard that there are $77/yr + internet streaming, $98/yr, etc. deals. The rep told me that $77 is the previous promotion and current promo is increased to ~$98. She was not able to give me the internet streaming. However, she said that regular customer service might be able to. After I signed up & paid the subscription, I was transferred to the regular customer service. I wasn't able to get the internet streaming...I didn't insist on getting it either. I asked once if I can get the internet streaming included. Anyway, The $98 deal's total came $111.90 as the earlier post said. This is for the XM Select. For the XM Premier the total is $124.61 taxes & royalty fee inclusive. With Citi Dividend AMEX, I get 5.2% Cash Back as previously mentioned. I purchased the Premier plan today and pretty happy! Thank you this thread!
I've got the promo of either $77/year or 5months for $25 for the last three years. I called today and the best they could give me was 6months for $50. Cancelled. I called the 866-431-7474 (Customer Advocacy Team)
I received a letter from 'em today regarding to my trial ending soon although I payed 1-yr subscription of the Premier already. Anyway, they gave me special offers for XM Select.
I was calling to cancel my 6 months at $35 and then I was offered $50 flat and then I said no and he offered $40 flat rate all taxes included. I just call the customer service number.
I called and asked for the $86 plan and the woman (foreign accent) said they only had a plan for $189 plus other stuff total around $197. I said no thanks and that I would disconnect. She said she would transfer me and after about 10 minutes on hold they disconnected me.
I called back to disconnect and then they offered the $86/yr plan. I said my offer for $86 is off the table because they disconnected me and I would only accept $25 for 6 months. I waited on hold another 15 min and finally she had gotten approval from the supervisor. I had 10 days left on my old plan so the total came to $23.13
Just called 18008624114, spoke to very nice young lady, after going back and forth for awhile, we got a1 year subscription for xm premier for $116 all inclusive...ask for the half off offer promotion
Called 1-800-682-4114 one day before account was set to auto-renew, and asked what deal they had. Rep offered everything package for $199, I asked for my current package at $86 rate ($94 with fees). Rep said no problem they could offer that rate this one time. Didn't have to threaten to cancel or anything like that.
Called the customer advocacy team even with an overdue balance on my account they were able to waive the 36$ past due and sign me up for the 5 for 25 deal and everything came out to be about 32.00! This group of women in the advocacy dept are wonderful!

How are you guys doing this? I got the 77/yr promotion last year and now XM is refusing to do anything for me. I just called 4 times and got the same bullshit full price offer? I've tried three different numbers and have talked to both American and Foreign CSRs. The American ones are quick to say No and hang up, and the foreign one talk to you for an hour just giving me the same BS price. Is there just some accounts they refuse to do anything with?
I also have a trial account and they refuse to budge on that one as well.

When you call, press whatever number number corresponds to "cancel the subscription" Otherwise they know you are bluffing.

Here's the thing...I called and turned down the 86/yr deal three months ago and let my wife's expire. I'm kicking myself...should have taken that now that I know better. Haven't received any calls, emails or mailings of any kind inviting me back since. Not even at full price.
My truck has a trial expiring tomorrow, so I can't "cancel" either account, because I don't have anything to cancel.
I did call the customer advocacy line and talked to a pretty nice guy. He said the promotions will only work for certain accounts. For others the code is simply not available for a rep to even use it. He said the only thing I can do is wait to be sent a promotion. I quite honestly don't understand how they choose who gets a promotion and who doesn't. But it's totally unfair BS.
I've been more than nice to every person I've talked to except for the advocacy guy...by that time I was livid after spending my entire afternoon on the phone and getting no where.

Pay the first month at full retail, and then call to cancel. That is how I did it in 2008 and started the ball rolling.
Last year I got in on the $86.XX/year promo. My subscription was set to renew this month. I called 1-800-682-4114 to request a better offer than the current $170.71 for one year of XM select. I was initially told "XM does not allow back to back promotions". I told the rep I wanted to cancel and was transferred to the cancellation department. I told the second rep I wanted to cancel because the price was too high and was offered the 50% off deal again. Total was $95.98 for the year. I don't allow them to charge my card so an additional two bucks was added so they could bill me. Total of 97.98!
Glad I read the prices you guys had received for your subscription renewals. Long story short I got the Sirius Select plan today for $101.04 for the year . Thanks !

That makes sense...get back into a billing cycle. Thanks for the tip!

Does that include taxes & fees? Today I extended a 3 month subscription that will expire 4/1/12 by saying I was going to cancel and they said they could only do a 5 month XM Premier for $29.99 + taxes. I had an email offering 6 months Select for $25 + taxes. I also own 1 XM Lifetime and 2 Sirius Lifetimes.
