Told the lady I needed to cancel because of financial reasons and she immediately said she could give me the same promotion as last year, $86. Guess i'll be calling next year again too.

Ironically just stumbled on this thread over the weekend and then I got my Sirius renewal today in the mail. Called in and they said wait time was heavy (over 10 minutes). Looks like I'll give them a call sometime in the morning or late tonight (from the left coast). Will keep everyone updated on the deal I get.

So here is my update. Called in this morning early and got right through. First lady basically transferred me to the cancellation specialist. They offered me free internet streaming then a rate for ~60 music only channels for $10/month. When I said no to both and asked why my "coworker" would receive a 6 for $25 promo and I couldn't she said I had been on this promo 1/2 off rate since 2010 and I couldn't qualify anymore. So I cancelled the account.

Anyone else have issues with being rejected for the 1/2 off rate when you've use it 3 times in a now already? Anyone have any experience/thoughts on when to come back to the service to try to get the promo rate again? Should I wait for something in the mail, etc or just call in in a few months?

While I do love the Sirius and hate morning talk radio, I don't love it for $15/month (esp. when I travel out of town at least 1 week a month for work).

I could only get 5 months, for $25. That is what I got last time, but I believe that if I would have pushed for 6 months then, when others were getting it easily, they would have offered it again. I will never pay more, so wonder how long I will be able to keep the service.

It doesn't sound like you were actually talking to the Retentions department (cancelation specialists). Sounds more like they just passed you on to another sales rep. The excuse that you no longer qualify for a promo is bogus. On the rare occassion that I've been told that (and I have), I tell them I'll think about it and then hang up and call back again. Hopefully the next rep I get is easier to work with. There's no point in trying to pursue a discussion with someone who tells you flat out that they're not going to get you a good rate.

Try calling back (maybe try a different phone number - look for one that others have posted that they've called and had success with) and if you get their recorded message, just keep saying "cancel my account". It will eventually transfer you to the retentions dept. and try again with a different rep, and see if they'll reinstate your account with the super cheap plan now. At this point you've got nothing to lose by trying.

Called 866-635-5020 and was offered $14.95/month for a year. I told them I'd like to cancel and they did. Didn't take much effort.

This is at the end of my first 6 months for $25 deal.

[edit]: called back and got a different rep, I asked about the 5 for $25 offer and she immediately agree to renew at that rate. So it all depends on who you talk to.

My 3 month trial on my new car is ending soon, I just got an offer letter, 1 year of select xm, for $95, is that a good deal or should I call and try to negotiate?

rated:
My last 6 months for $25 expired 1/1/13, and I sent email on website just before to cancel auto-renewal, even though previous experience told me they wouldn't cancel without a phone call...just wanted some documentation as a talking point. Called around 15th to confirm cancellation, reason being poor reception in my general area. I was offered 5 months at 25, told them I'd seen 6 for 25 on the internet (couldn't remember where) - brief hold, and got 6 months (plus two weeks just prior to call) for $25. Thanks for keeping the discussion alive here.

I just renewed with the 6 months for $25 deal. Called 866 302 7474. Could not get a deal on internet radio and best they would do for a year was $86 + fees.

We were finalizing the 6 months when she said it would auto renew. I argued and she said all plans do that. I stuck to my guns and told her to cancel the whole deal then she finally agreed to put a future cancel date on it so it wont renew.

My wife's 2013 Kia renewal was $102.14 for 6 months, sorted it for $99 for 12 months including all taxes and fees.

1/27/13 - called 866-635-5020 at 10am Sunday morning - let my free trial period with GM lapse. Called and said my friends had a $86 dollar a year deal. They said they made an "exception" for me and letting me renew at $86 plus some fees. Came in at $94.30. Going to turn on service today but sending me a bill with a $2 charge. (Worth it to me, don't want them to have any credit card info on file.)

So here is how it went for me, I am currently on the $77 promo from last year until Feb. 8th. I just called and said I got a renewal letter for $86 "I am currently on invoice". She said I can get the $86 promo but I needed to call back on the 7th since my current promo is still active. She didn't even mention the need for a credit card and said they will just bill me when I call back. She said she would note it on the account that I would call back on the 7th to get the $86. Not sure if she was in the US but she didn't try to up sell me on anything or most important tell me I had to pay by credit card. I will call back on the 7th. I probably could have tried the 5 month deal like others but I don't want to be calling every 5 months.

Called in, talked to cancellation specialist. Told her I was cancellling for 2 reasons. One, I couldn't afford to pay the full price, but that I loved sirius. Second reason, why I was cancelling my online as well, was that I won a free yr in sept, and after getting cancelled and run around with too many people trying to cancel a freebie, I was given 6 mos for a yr, or basically getting screwed out of a win. SO after a few minute wait while she discussed things, she cam bake and offered me $126 ($86 car, $3.50 per month online) for both for a yr. Done!

rated:
Just renewed for my 7th year. This time got the full year, $86 plus taxes and fees (total in Miami-Dade FL of $107.86). Royalty fees go up starting Feb. 1 2013, which happens to be when my subscription was going to expire so I wanted to make sure I beat the deadline on that.

Key words to say are always "cancel" and "too expensive for me". They repeat those back to you and you say yes that's the problem and that allows them to offer you a deal. It is actually a lot of fun to call XM every year and lead the CSR through the script! I just used the 5 month/$25 promo so she couldn't offer me that but went right to the $86 because I am a good customer. I asked about internet radio but the best she could do was additional $38 a year. Someday they will offer me that for free I hope! Until then I have Pandora or my itunes.

Has anybody successfully negotiated a deal for Internet Only access?
I misplaced my Stiletto a few months back, SiriusXM was more than happy to send me a free Sportster, which is a terrible radio...but really, I can take my SGS3 everywhere, and just plug it into my radio in the car as well, and I still have an unlimited data plan, so, why not?
If not, I did find my Stiletto. If I decide it's worth the $86 or whatever for a year for Howard, I'll try to get a free switch back to it thrown in.
$15 for a radio change is full of stupid.

i got 5 months for 25 dollars pretty much took 5 minutes...didn't want to ask about 6 months because i couldn't understand a word the guy was saying so i took the 5 months and hung up lol hopefully in 5 months ill get someone i can understand

I'm sure you've been waiting on the edge of your seat, here's what I did.

I called, stated that I was thinking of canceling, but was curious as to whether they had any internet only deals for me.
She offered me Internet Only for full price.

I said no, I'm not interested in that.
She offered me the same 50% off option that I, and many of you have, for the radio and then the standard $3.50/month for internet ($127.09 after fees/taxes)

I said meh, I'll have to think about it.
She came back with 6 months for $43.47 plus fees/taxes.
I stated that I know of people getting 6 months for $25, she said that is no longer available but could do 5 months for $25.

I said it sounds good, but I'd like a break on the internet radio.
She put me on hold to see what she could do.

She came back after several minutes and offered a year for the same $127.09 total as before, but said she could give me a $15 credit ($112.09 for the math majors).
I said that was still a bit steep, the grand total for a year last year was $106.69.

She offered me 6 months for a total of $49.06.
I decided to go for one more negotiation and stated that in August I was given a replacement radio for my lost Stiletto, I found the Stiletto and prefer it, so I asked for a free transfer back to that radio, which she gave me.

I had 2 weeks left on my subscription.
So, the moral of the story is that there's no reason to be nervous to call, no need for a script. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want and refuse the first few offers. You can always call back, especially if your subscription is not expiring immediately.

Also, I gave them a Discover Secure Online Account Number, so I shouldn't have to worry about this auto-renewal crap.
Man, this is an unusually long message.

Got the 50% off deal today hassle free, just select the automated attendant option to Cancel service and speak to the retention folks. I simply asked for "the same deal I got last year". She asked if I would cancel if I cant get the deal. I said yes, and she said "Good news, you qualify for the 50% off rate".

Worked for me--was billed $159.39 PLUS the new music royalty fee of $15.62 = $175.01 for a year.
Called the 866-431-7474 (Customer Advocacy Team)number and was offered a smaller line up for 105.85, but had paid 94 last year for the full line up, so I asked what else they could do.
Guy was super nice and offered me the 6 months for $25 ($27 with tax) AND he offered to take off my credit card right after the transaction so it won't be subject to auto-renewal at another rate. He said to just call back in 6 months.
Painless. I figure they must have enough chumps who are willing to pay inflated fees. Very satisfied customer.

Called today, 866-635-5020 pressed option 1 to cancel. Answered right away. Informed the English speaking female my subscription was expiring tomorrow and wanted the 50% off 1 year promo again (7th year of getting this promo) or I would like to cancel. She checked her system and said that would be no problem. $96.75 total for select package. ($86 package, $10.75 MRF) Asked about moving an XM radio to my Sirius account, happy to say they now have a system to handle both types of radio on one account. Could not get multiple radio discount with the 50% promo but did get the XM radio at the same 50% promo. Asked about lifetime subscription, sad to say they no longer offer the lifetime subscriptions. Will call again in another year to get 50% off or cancel.

Just subscribed for my wife's car after the 3 month trial. The 1-year rate is quoted at 159.39. I asked if there was any promotions going on and was quoted at $95+ taxes and fees. I told the guy that I thought my other car was $86 for a year. He said hold on, put me on hold for less than 3 seconds and returned, saying his supervisor authorized $86+tax and fees for a total of $96.75. They must be really used to this. Very nice customer service, very quick process. Too bad thay don't just offer it at $86 and let everyone renew without the games.

Came across this thread, was midway through my select subscription. Called saying I wanted to cancel cause I actually wanted the play-by-play channels, but couldnt afford premier. Went from the upgrade costing $150+, to only spending $30 for the whole year, plus a free month. Amazing.

Found this thread just after signing up for a year at $95 after our 3 month trial. Called them back up and spoke to customer retention and said I found people were offered 6 months for $25 and I was upset I did not get that offer when signing up earlier, and I wanted that deal or cancel me. He said they had 5 months for $25 or 6 months for $30. Signed up for the 6 month deal, no trouble or hold at all!

I was quoted a second unit on the first call this morning for $20 and $9.99 a month. So I asked retention what the best deal they could offer me. Said they could do the 6 months for $30 for the second unit as well, and also gave me the Onyx unit for shipping only ($7.65), just needed to keep the subscription active for a year. Doesn't seem to bad especially if I can get the 6 months for $30 again.

It took two customer reps and multiple tries but was finally given the $86+fees deal for the 7th year in a row for a total of $103.17.

I had 4 XM radios renew today, called 866-431-7474 (Customer Advocacy Team) and said cancel them all. The rep offered me the $86+$10.75 deal right off. This is the nth year I have done this deal

Note that I did $25 plus fee for 6 months on another account, which is less, but then I have to call in twice as much - so as long I keep it a decent price and for a year I am good.

Edit: I pasted in the wrong phone number.

My free 6 months expired 2-3-13
Called 866-257-4767 (number was on a mailer I received)
Mailer offered the $7.17/mth ($86.04 annual rate) with the $15 activation fee waived.
I was also offered by agent the $24.99/6 mth rate
I asked about a deal on the internet (better than the $3.50/mth) Was told no, nothing out there for internet. I asked again stating a "friend" had gotten a deal on the internet added to the $86/yr. Still nothing. I asked for the totals for both 6 mth and 1 year with fees, and then also with internet added.
6mth just radio=$24.99 +tax (I forgot to write total down)
6mth W/internet=$51.82
1 yr just radio=$102.07
1 yr W/internet=$142.69

I asked again about a "deal" on the internet. He said, let me ask my manager. Waited 1 minute, he came back..nothing, sorry

I went with the 1 year no internet and used a secure card number CC that expires April 2013 with a $150 limit.
I will still call back next Feb and cancel...set a google alert for it already.
$8.51/month for sat radio, total, out the door.

He never mentioned (nor did I ask) if this was select or premier. My mailer does state it is for only the select package.

called 866-568-0364; the rep told me that there was no problem to renew at $86 for the year but that my account had automatically renewed and I would have to speak to someone in accounting and billing. my call was transferred to a call center in india. the rep told me that he could not honor the price ($86) and that I would have to renew at $179. when I told him to cancel he said that he could not do that. I called back 866-568-0364 and placed a cancelation order. the rep was apparently ready to negotiate but I told him that I didn't like the games, didn't use sirius that much, and just wanted to cancel. he took the order. I have an iphone. I have cds. I have am/fm. I don't need sirius.

I am about 1 year into a 2-year subscription and was thinking about cancelling. My first question is if I do cancel will they refund me my money for the time I did not use but already paid for? Secondly, if I call to cancel under this scenario, is there anyway that they will offer me any special deals?

Thanks for the help.

thank you for your info.just did the same thing and was able to to get the same rate.and cut my renewal by almost 50%

Be VERY careful with these guys and those 1 time use credit cards. They will renew your sub, and if they can't run your card they will NOT shut off your service. They will let you incur charges, then they will send you to collections for not paying if you don't stop the service.

good info in here, and agree, Sirius is VERY shady about cancelling service. I had to file a claim with BBB to get them to cancel last time. major PITA. thinking about signing on again (worth it for $25 for 6 months) but very cautious about doing biz with them again.

Just renewed mine. Took about 10 Minutes. $86/yr + fees. Came out to 103.36 in NJ.
Had the $77 per year, then had $77 per year plus fees, then went to $25/6 mos, now $86 per year plus fees.
When I called prior to getting the $25/6 mos, they told me to call back before it expires to get a new deal but they wouldn't honor the same deal consecutively anymore.
They said look on the internet for whatever deal others are getting that you aren't currently on, and if you tell them the deal they will honor it.

My subscription expired yesterday on my new truck after the initial 3 months and calling the call center was frustrating to say the least, so I got onto their chat line and got 5 months for $23 including fees. No activation fee, I guess it's who you get, I keep hearing that but had never had a problem until now and I have 3 cars on it. I was told that since I was expired, that was the only deal they could give me. It was close enough for now. Try the chat feature if all else fails.

Obtain your special XM ID number for your Honda Ody system (probably in your owner's manual), then call them up...try to get the ~ $80 for a year subscription w/o auto-renewal (paper renewal only).
