Circuit City has The Sims 2 Special Edition DVD on sale for $39.99 and will give you a $10.00 gift card with your purchase. It's printed in their ad this week. The ad says "in store only and Special Edition DVD available while supplies last". The YMMV part comes in because when I went to the store to buy it, there was a tiny sign in front of the display which said that the print ad was a mistake and the price is $49.99, but you still get the $10.00 gift card with purchase. Gee, thanks! After driving all the way over, I was p!ssed.

I grabbed a copy, strolled over to the checkout counter with my ad in hand, and prepared to ask for the manager. When I placed the ad down on the counter, the checkout girl didn't even bat an eye. She just rang me up at the sale price, processed my gift card, and said "Thanks very much; have a nice day."

Our Circuit City rocks! I've had extremely good customer service there and very little hassle on hot deals.

Good luck!

Where is a good place for the first Sims?

I don't know who has the best price at the B&M stores, Tazz, but I would try Toys R Us, WalMart, Circuit City or Target. One or the other of them should have it on sale.

There's also a promo posted at GameStop: Buy one Sims title before 9/25/04 and get one of equal or lesser value free. (Unfortunately the promo doesn't include the new Sims 2, but the rebate doesn't say you *have* to buy your Sims title from GameStop. You have to pay 3 bucks shipping though. Here's the link.

bought it BUT it is the cd version as shown. The banner says the "dvd SE is available while supplies last". The gal at the check out (been there for years and is usually very helpful) said only the CD version was on sale and with the GC. However the store stickers on the boxes were revearsed (DVD tags on CD) she had to put the specials bundle code in seperately anyway and it would only work for the cd version. Picture in ad shows CDrom version. Very misleading. But technically accurate.

CD version rang up at 39.99 plus got a GC. DVD rang up at $49.99 and no GC would come up. receipt doesn't have verbage as to version since it's a special code as always that they have to put in.

My newspaper ad states very clearly, "The Sims 2 $39.99; $10.00 Gift Card with purchase in-store only. Special Edition DVD available while supplies last." It doesn't say anything at all restricting the $39.99 price to the cd version; nor does the image shown specify the cd version. That's probably why they're going to give the $39.99 price to any customer who puts up a fuss; the ad from the newspaper is very clear and I'm sure they don't want thousands of people complaining to the BBB about bait and switch tactics. I'll be happy to provide a scan of the ad and receipt if anyone wants to host it.

No go at my CC. They said the $40 meant $50-$10 GC very tricky of them. That's why I never liked CC.

actually the box pictured IS the cd version. Even says on it. My store didn't flinch about the price but said it was not the DVD. Does it really matter? $30 is a great deal.

I agree this is very messed up! I think they hired the OM employees laid off from their web ad team!

CD version box image

btw - the system requirements of 800 mhz is a laugh. Try 3x that for decent game play. Rocks on my sons new 64bit setup!

here is the CC ad showing ONLY the DVD version on sale. Description does not match the print ad. ANd even the web ad shows the wrong picture on close up.
very

Same thing happened to me as Telinar.
Claimed it was a misprint. The price is $39.99 then they charge you $10.00 for the gift card, making it $49.99 total but you walk away with a $10.00 gift card...geez

sorry for the double post. Too many windows open i guesss

Tried to PM to Fry's and combine with the $10 off PC Gamer coupon, got shot down. Then tried to get them to combine coupon with gift card, also got shot down. Oh well, guess I'm going to try again tomorrow.

combine this with the 10 dollar PC coupon to get it for 29.99 plus 10 dollar gift card possibly.

Hah!

Thanks for the links, Atene. I can see now that the dvd box has a small banner on the top. Because they have the words "special edition dvd available while supplies last" right above he $39.99 price, a reasonable person would read that as "DVD version for $39.99" until the supply is gone. That's extremely misleading. I don't give a rip what kind of BS excuse they try to make when you get there, I'd stand firm and ask for a manager. Ask him/her to write down their name on a business card and the reason why you're being refused the sale price, along with the corporate office number and address. I'll bet they give in.

If they claim the print ad is a mistake, that's their problem. They can take it up with the printing company.

That's what I thought. They already had correction notices up at 10am. I skipped it, then went back later and just bought it... $39.99 + tax after the PC Gamer coupon and I got the $10 gift card. Not too bad since I used the gift card on a $24.99AR DVD player.

we also believed it to be the DVD version. Very deceptive advertising and full of errors on web site even.

Is the DVD version any different really? Might try to find it on BT and see if key code from cd works for dvd version....

bump

did anyone get a print out for a $10 GC? if so whats the program or offer code whatever?

Mercenary said: did anyone get a print out for a $10 GC? if so whats the program or offer code whatever?

it is an instant card that can be used by the person in line behind you . And behind them.

For someone who has the game, what do you think of it?

I went to my Circuit City at 11 AM Sunday. They refused to honor the $39.99 price plus gift card on both the CD and DVD versions. They wanted me to pay $49.99. They refused to combine the $10.00 off coupon and give me the gift card. I spoke with the manager and he would not budge. Safe to say, I walked out of the store without the game and then PM'ed it to WalMart for $39.99

CC now has signs up in the store stating this was a price error and it is now $49.99 in Mich

I'm sorry you guys are having such a hard time. Try contacting Circuit City's VIPs directly (not just via email; it'll probably go straight in the garbage). Let them know how you feel about their deceptive advertising:

Just got back from the CC near Lawndale, CA. I had to show the guy the ad, because the DVD was coming up $49.00 w/o the giftcard. He looked at, then rang the game up at $29.99 and $10.00 for the giftcard. With tax the total was $42.46 and I have a $10.00 gc to waste there.

its alright. a 1-3 scale, with 3 being excellent, 1 sucks--I give it a 2. it cost me $38 and today was the first day where i thought, man, I could have bought some CDs instead.

the objects that they start you out with is so little...i mean, you can see the expansion packs already being created for it. I downloaded an alienware computer--which was nicely rendered and detailed. but that was the onluy thing available from maxis website on this time.

the good--wow, graphics are nice. I prefer bright, cheerful colors--this game has it in spades. Some A.I. stupidity but at least I don't have to tell them to go pee every time.

Thanks OP! I went to Worst Buy and price match it, and got it for $38.99 and $10 Worst Buy Gift Card.

Wishful said: For someone who has the game, what do you think of it?

To me it's an excellent game. It has made me lose sleep and has interfered with my school work. But I was also addicted to the original Sims game. Getting this one is like upping my addiction a notch or 2. And I admit I used the motherlode cheat many times to give my sims millions of dollars, and then I focued on the inevitable love triangle. 3 children were taken away, including one I adopted. They wouldn't let me adopt any more after that, even though I had originally called them to see if they would *take* the kids I (err.. my sim) was about to have. Instead they sent my sim a daughter, which they eventually took away due to neglect, along with the twins she gave birth to. The man in my sim house has kids with 2 different women who are also living there, one of whom is his wife. But I digress...

The graphics are better than the original, but it seems like there are waaaay too few objects available. The aging aspect is neato, since it's a real pain to keep after those babies and toddlers. The teenage boy living in my sim house entered adulthood as a "pathetic parasite" or something like that. He had failed a few grades in school and had a low-paying job that he had only gone to a few days.

Things I didn't see that I wanted were pets and an elevator. The ability to have a 4-story house is sweet (or maybe it's 5), but there weren't enough objects for me to fill up all the floors. And as far as I can tell you still can't have an indoor pool

There are some bugs I've found already, specifically action bugs (my sims often stop doing everything until I manually delete the next action they're scheduled to do), and in the house I was building there was a hole in all of the floors that I could't get rid of, but I admit that could somehow be user error.

If you like the original Sims, you'll undoubtedly like the newer version. Just make sure your pc can handle it. Mine lags big time. I've got a P4 1.8 mhz with 512 mb ram and something like 128 mb video memory.

are you playing from the dvd or did you install completely to the herd drive?

you have to compleatly install the game to the hard drive. 2.8gb plus and additional 350mb for user files. the DVD/CD after instalition is just for copy protection.

hey hey hey this is my 100th post!!!!!!!!!!!!

jdl1527 said: hey hey hey this is my 100th post!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope, by that post, it's 101st one, not 100th

I bought The Sims 2 at CompUSA for $49.99, just before this deal came out at CC. My cousin brought it to my attention so I decided to do a PM, which I eventually did today. The guy seemed very disinterested in his job, asked "You want the gift card too?" and I told him "Yeah, can it be applied to the sale?" and he just said "No." - ok...that's fine. He didn't even call CC to confirm so I got $10 back plus a $10 CompUSA gift card! They're not supposed to match special offers like gift cards, so I suprised he did.

I didn't even know the CC ad was a misprint until my cousin just told me. He drove all the way out to CC and paid $40, no GC
