S taples Blacklist Information aka "Restricted Access List"
See also :Staples blacklist Reference Master Thread

The following is an "edited" copy/paste from another old thread. Permission granted by author.

We go through the Blacklisting questions every time, is it real, is it real, how does it work, so here are a few things to note from Personal Experience:

Black listing is Real; don’t ask this damm question again.

When you are asked to "Place order at your local Staples, as we cannot take your order over the phone" that tells you that you have been blacklisted. Either that or when you give the phone rep your phone number you will be disconnected, without a reason I may say.

That takes you to the next answer which is that they reference your PHONE number first, but when you are put on the "Restricted Access List" which is the official name of the Blacklist, they run that list against other sub categories such as FirstName&LastName, Address&ZIP, FirstName&Zip, etc... This list auto updated the accounts and there is a department at Corporate that rechecks this automated list.

The first way to get Blacklisted is if by any chance your order history gets reviewed by either a rep or a manager, who can either then "Restrict" your account or forward it to that above department. They look for mailed coupons from the "Promotions" department to get a % of mailed vs. used coupon codes.

Worst thing to do is to use a 16 digit coupon code not issued to you, because they are account specific. It will not have a problem in most cases but once in a while it will work against you.

Many specially issued coupons such as this one are noted on the account and can be easily viewed by a manager for validity.

People that say to just not worry about BL, have to worry about not be able to jump on hot deal at Staples that may be legit and have to take their business in store.

People like me have Platinum Status which gets us free shipping on everything, and is quite handy when you actually really really need it.

BLACK FRIDAY
The day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is frequently referred to as Black Friday. One of the major U.S. holiday shopping days, it is the day many U.S. consumers begin Christmas shopping. The day is heavily promoted by retailers. The origin of Black Friday comes from the shift to profitability during the holiday season. Black Friday was when retailers went from being unprofitable, or "in the red," to being profitable, or "in the black", at a time when accounting records were kept by hand and red indicated loss and black profit.

    Hi All,

The OP of the old thread has not posted for a very long time. (OPM last updated 06/24) Also the old thread was put under moderation to stop coupon begging in the HD forum, and to keep out fraudulent coupons. IMHO these facts DOA the thread.

BF is just around the corner, during BF items will quickly go OOS or some deals will be short lived. I thought that not having an active thread for coupon info would be a nightmare. I asked FW if I could start a new thread and did get the ok. But Tim warned that if coupon begging or posting of fraudulent coupons becomes a problem. This thread will be put it under moderation too. Tim has given us a second chance. Let’s not ruin it!

NM the following see edit Please do not post messages of “Thanks Tim, Way to go Chief, good news etc.” I have started a thread removed to post your questions and comments. TIA EDIT Ingore and free free to post OT messages in this thread for now. I will ask to have them deleted in a week or so. Enjoy! End Edit

Attention new members: Please look at my messages that follow before you post a question. These messages also cover non-coupon related info about Staples. TIA

Please bear with me, the thread is bare and in the works. Hopefully it will be up to par with my OD coupon thread shortly.

At this time, you get great, great deals. If you're not in any hurry, wait until just before or during then.

I'm impressed by the description -- very informative, very historically relevant

is it true Staples will only allow either a price match or a coupon... not BOTH one or the other..

this is what the CSR told me on the phone as I was trying to order something

can you also include if any of the coupons are stackable or not. that will be a great piece of information.

It is always YMMV, however:
1. Get the PM, and at the end, use a coupon (which you tried but didn't work).
2. Use the coupon and call back for the PM.

Staples.com reserves the right to reject orders that use a coupon code that was obtained from a bulletin board or other Internet site. Staples.com also reserves the right to reject orders with a coupon code that was transferred from a direct mail recipient or is in violation of any coupon restriction listed above.

Willy.....

I pass the torch on to you....btw there's a greatload of information you have. I must say that the transition to one-time single use coupon codes.... and just the general lack of coupons to share for multiple use led to the demise of the original Staples coupon thread, and a little procrastination on my part. Thanks for picking up the slack.

The good days are long past unfortunately.

Thanks Dragon007 and thanks to all other members who posted in the same fashion. I'm glad to see you posting again. What you say is true the ole days are gone. The goose was killed this year, by use of internal codes, Swatch and switch error etc.

I sent an email to corp awhile back complaining about not receiving any coupons in my email. Staples' reply in short:
Staples will continue to release 5 digit codes. There will only be few to drive up sales. For the most part are going the serialized route. (Thanks to Marketing dept who thrash the Sales dept at a VP meeting. Their gloves were packed with... what I already mentioned above.)They will be continuing with the freebies. (IMHO because the freebies only got hit once awhile back.Remember the $59.99 briefcases for a penny! )So are public 5 digit codes totally dead? IMO no I used one yesterday.

There are other reasons; I wanted to see the Staples thread up and running again. Take a look at the Staple threads especially Grabber's . The spoon feeding Grabber (and other OPs) has to do in his threads is mind-boggling. Poor guy... I really wonder why he continues to OP a thread. Most other OPs gave up and only post on other sites. I gave up after I got this PM from one of my last Staple threads. Here it is: Did you place the phone order today? can you use coupons? And can you use discover card to get 10% back? Can you tell me more details about it? Could you share the PM experience later if possible? All the info was in the OP if not it could be found in the thread! (Give all OPs a break already.) Hopefully, this thread will be a help to Staples OPs, by cutting down the spoon feeding and redundant questions.

Secondly, to stop the bad rap FW is getting. FatWallet did not start the “shenanigans” a few members did! You have to go no further than this thread.Tim warned that if coupon begging or posting of fraudulent coupons becomes a problem.Yet we have four beg messages posted. Why?

This brings me to another point. I deal with only one CSR (she is so sweet she makes your teeth rot), one B&M Mgr and one rep in the office of the president. It is a pita and nightmarish when they are not working. I get hit with (at the B&M) as soon they notice I have a coupon printout in my hands. “We do not except printouts posted on Fatwallet!” also get with same on the phone . I am sick of it and had enough! That is not to say I am against a very fugal and constructive hot deal. (see below). It is a fun and fair game to me!

Ok.. sorry I will get off the soapbox.

HP 25PK DVD+R SPINDLE 555506 $21.98 25/Pack 4 $197.82 Processing
REMOTE CONTROL ZENITH 581764 $9.94 each 1 $9.94
Subtotal: $207.76
Coupon Codes:
XXXXX: - $40.00
XXXXX: - 25 Staples Reward Check
Shipping: $0.00
Total: $142.76

-10.00 ~ REMOTE MIR
- 89.46 ~ Price Adjustment ( 555506 on sale this week for $9.94 per pk)
- 4.16 ~ 2% Fat Cash Back
-15.00 ~ CashBack Bonus award from Discover
- 10.39 ~ Staples Business Rewards
Total: ~ 13.75 +tax

I only have to deal with one $10 rebate.(IMHO Staples has the best rebates anyway)Final cost 13.75 for 225 blank DVDs. That is less than a penny each.

I had placed four more orders like above, using one filler item such as
CABLE/DSL WIRELESS RO 479527 $44.94 Each 1 $44.94 total cost A/R $10
NORTON ANTIVIRUS 2005 580605 $39.94 Each 1 $39.94 total cost A/R ZERO
to fulfill coupon. This Wednesday I will have 950 blank DVDs for a total cost of ~ 67.50 not to shabby.

Am I going to eBay the blanks? Nope. I got in on the Blockbusters rental deal. Do I need to say more?

Many PHDS members also order the HP 700MB CD-R Spindle, 100/Pack for $34.98 last week. Constructive deals now with the benefit of price adjustments (sale @ $17.44) of this week, has fetched them 100/pk CDRs ranging from ~8.00 to low of ~2.00. Best of all no rebates just a 2 min phone call.

Here is a tip if you need a Staples coupon. Go to Staples website and order a catalog shipped to your home. There will be a 25 of 100 coupon on the back. I recently did it and got it. They also sent me another 30 of 150 in the mail.

WillysEmptyWallet Your doing a great job. I frequent this area often, although most of my contributions are on the Computer Forum.

No matter what you do, some people will violate the rules. I was wondering, when the violations happen, if it would be possible for Tim to ban the IP addresses of the offenders, rather than take down this thread

starsmoons said:again, you proved this thread doesn't deserve to exist.DEFINITELY, it will be so good for you with no coupon thread. You can sell all your coupons without any hinderance of free coupons.

Something is wrong with you if you can not appreciate this great post by Willy

A bit of inside info for newbies. Coupons are still valid for 2 days after exp date. Below is an example. You can still use this coupon today the 17th. But you may have to phone the order in. The dot com is usally a hit or miss.
