I've been looking at the S series cuz my HP zt3000, although it has a really nice WUXGA screen, and I added a 7200rpm hard drive in it, @ 6.5 lbs it's too big for me to be mobile. I use it a lot now and jumping down to 4.x lbs would be a sigh of relief but waiting for $850 in rebates is risky, almost like that one time over a year ago when I went with that one Dell deal with some crazy rebates similar to this. |

ccrows said:Why are you worried abot the 700M being too big? Use that as a strong selling point when you go to sell it. Many people bought the 700M model because of the big widscreen. (And the fact that it was not a Celeron)
As for the laptop itself, how do you like it overall? You were able to order one before I could get home and order one for myself online that day. Those went very fast...
Only because the lappy I've been using for the past 2 years was a 10.6" 16:9 screen, and honestly, I could go smaller. I'm all about ultra-portability. That being said, 12.1" should be fine. I actually made money by selling my 2-year old laptop on eBay and buying the 700m
The 700m shipped today, so not sure yet. Thats weird so many people missed the deal, I probably spent 3 hours researching the 700m before I bit, but that was my first experience with a deal like that...had I known it was so short-lived I would have acted sooner. Oh well, lucked out that time. |

GUys,
this is super duper hot. I'd jump on it if I didn't get T42 $1350 deal. I was looking at this laptop 2 weeks ago, it was $1900 at least.
But I'm not sure about the rebate though, $850 seems a lot. But it's definitely a good deal for those of you who are looking to get one aniway |

Well congrats on the old laptop profit on eBay and landing the 700m. I was seriously tied up that day and was hoping that it was going to last till 11:00PM CST. Boy was I wrong. Those went in the middle of the day, long before I got home. What I read from others you will be glad you made that purchase.
As for me BF is coming, so I'll be ready... |

UCSDAccord said:I've never done the office advantage program, but i just read it and it says you can only get a maximum of $50 per quarter or something like that, meaning that a purchase of $500 or more you only get $50, so not exactly 10% off

I don't think you can upgrade the GPU to 9700 unless you custom order one from SonyStyle. I've been reading up on this model for quite some time and it seems like the radeon 9200 is pretty good even at 32mb if you are doing casual gaming, dvd playback, etc. However, the 9700 is better for dx9 games so basically if you wanted one with a 9700 you would have to pay a lot more since it won't have these multiple rebates |

Wow, hot. I am crazy scared anout those $850 in rebates! My gosh, that's like the price of one laptop itself (a Dell anyway )
I've been reading up on these laptops here:
http://sony.thumbrocket.com
And here (a very, very long thread):

No, are you joking? The 9700s are only in desktop replacement type of laptops since they suck a heck of alot of power and generate heat..... |

I would really appreciate a more adequate anwer, rather than a lame statement that 9700 are for desktops only. My question is since ATI Mobility 9200 is socket based GPU, is it possible to upgrade to ATI MOBILITY 9700. I know the 9800 is different socket so my question is in regard to 9700. THank you, and incompetent answer do not apply.

Seems very hot to me. How does it compare to a 700m? Should I wait for the next Dell deal or jump on this? Im attracted to the larger screen on this one. |

Actually, that's not true. The 9700 is in the customizable version of this laptop (the s270) sold at SonyStyle...
But back to the original question, the GPU is not upgradeable. At the thumbrocket forums, I've seen pictures of how to upgrade CPU, add bluetooth internally, and add ram/hdd/etc, but GPU is the only thing that's not upgradeable! |

i do appreciate your inquiries, but some members here would also appreicate a more respectful and sincere approach rather than lambasting at their original comment. to answer your question, that's not possible since the gpu i would think is attached on the mobo and is undetachable contrary to what "Socket" means in the firest palce |
