OmniViper. I appreciate your posting, although since I've seen a lot of people posting just for the fun of it and without any expertise. The ATI Gpus are Socket based and they are replaceble. I've replaced a lot of 9200 myself. Sony chooses to hardwire them or to put them in a socket, so I was wondering if anybody have a REAL LIFE knowledge of that or not. apperantly some poeple do, so that's why I asked for the pictures, others, jsut post without any knowledge, just to say something. Thanks.

So that's good enough reason to treat people like dirt for at least trying to help you? Believe me man that's an easy way to get ignored forever around here...

I dont think the 9200 and 9700 are related at all though. I eman they have totally different amoutns of transitors and stuff desktop wise. I doubt that that kind of conversion is possible as I said, but i can be wrong. Id like to find out though because if it is indeed possible, I'll mod the ati vid card on my t30

The S Series got an option to put a 9700 GPU in them, if you customize a S270 or S170. The pinouts are identical it is a matter of how it is attached to th emobo.

How much is a 9700 GPU? Where do you buy them in socket form?

It looks hairy enough replacing the hard drive, let alone fool around with the GPU. :\\

can't get cc warranty when you buy at od

Anyone can show me ref about how OD void credit card's extended warranty protection?

That poster is mistaken or doesn't know what CC stands for. Maybe he thought CC meant CircuitCity instead of credit card.

Yesterday night I saw and played for sometime with this laptop in the OD,

Very nice laptop , one of the draw back is 60Gb HDD is 4200 rpm and its really slow. Also only 32 MB of video memory.
Also tax on 2099 ( thats 2100 ) is comming like 137 ( here in MN) thats really kills the deal ..

Also no OD advantage and FatCash , may be only some credit card Cash Back of 20 bucks( 1%)

So the actual cost after rebate is 1249 + tax ( some where between 125 - 160 depends on your location) ~ 1400
bucks on top of that risk of 850 dollers of rebate.
One really thinks wheather is really worth it not .

Return Policy (online, but assume the same at B&M)... Just FYI...

"Desktop computers, monitors, printers, scanners, faxes, handheld computers, and all-in-one machines must be returned in their original packaging and with all accessories within 14 days of purchase to qualify for a full refund, exchange or credit. Please note that Notebook PCs, LCD projectors, PDAs, Digital Cameras and opened software with their original packaging and accessories cannot be returned, but, instead may only be exchanged for the same item within 14 days of purchase."

$157 tax in California! But still a good deal for a Sony Vaio assuming the rebate will work. I also saw a 1.5ghz centrino on eCost for $1150 today

I own this laptop, one problem I have is the fan noise. Whenever I turned it on for 10-20min, fan began to blow and noise is pretty large. It never stop. I don't know any guys here faced same problem.

Yes.. I notice this as well. On top of that, the sony website doesn't offer drivers all components yet, meaning if you want to put 2003 pro on it, you're out of luck. That's why I exchange it for a Toshiba M35-X349. It is heavier than S260p, but the bigger screen, build in flash card reader, bigger hard drive, and +/- dvd writer make it worth the price. I paid around 1300 ar rebate and giftcard at CC.
