Note that through the OPIANTXM6 code they are now offering "Free Holiday Express Shipping" now as well. Order by 12/20/2005 (I think) and you will get it before Christmas - they say.

I didn't check the other code, but I think it is a similar deal.

So we don't even have to pay for shipping now

I decided to get my daughter a home kit for her SkyFi2. She has a car kit in her car, boombox she uses at home, and she listens to the streams online at work - so she is a music and XM fanatic like I am. She wanted to be able to connect her SkyFi2 to her stereo at home in addition to her boombox.

Rather than pay the asking price for home kit ($32.49 + shipping for a refurb from Delphi) I just ordered another kit from the promo deal $49 with free shipping for another SkyFi2, car kit, and the home kit. Yes, I do have to pay full price for that tuner for 3 months before I put it on the family plan, but I figure the $18 extra + the $49 kit has me at $67 for both kits and a spare tuner - which I didn't think was a bad deal.

Guess what? The new company (no longer Metron, I don't think) actually shipped the new tuner activated! Just plug it in and go to the refresh page or call in for a refresh and it was working right away.

Someone started "yet another XM deal thread" about these same deals. In this one they are talking aboout the Tao "sports pack" being $49 rather than $99 for the Tao. Keep in mind, the "sports pack" does not include EITHER the home or the car kit. For $49 you get the Tao and this goofy belt, for $99 you get the Tao, a car kit, and a home kit. The kits retail for $60 each,, but I am sure you can get them for less - but I would bet most folks would think the $99 purchase was a better deal - but it all depends on how you are going to use the Tao.

If you just want the belt and use this walkman style, then the link using the OPIANTXM6 code has it for the same $49 price as the other code does. But for most, the $99 Tao deal with both kits is probably a better deal.

I just checked and both the O&A and the "employee" links and codes still work and still with good prices.

One thing to note, the terms and conditions have changed. It now says:

You are required to purchase three (3) months of service and service will renew on same payments terms and billing frequency after initial three (3) months. A six (6) month service commitment is required for each radio. Failure to maintain six (6) months of continuous service on any of the radios purchased using this offer will result in a $65.00 early cancellation fee on said radio(s).
Radios are shipped pre-activated. XM service billing automatically begins on the day your radio is shipped.
The credit card number used to activate your XM service via this promotion will be added to your XM account for future billing.
Responsible billing party may not be changed or transferred until the 6 month service commitment is fulfilled for any radio(s) purchased through this offer

Previously you could order a promo radio and after the 3 months pre-paid expires you could move it to your existing account for the $6.99 a month price. I have done that several times now

The old math was: cost of radio + ($12.99 x 3 pre-pay) + ($6.99 x 3 family plan) = cost for 6 months - or $59.94 plus whatever you pay for the radio w/shipping.

The new math is: cost of radio + ($12.99 x 6 months) = $77.94 + cost of radio and shipping.

Not a huge difference, but a difference still and something to look at when comparing the cost of getting a promo radio VS retail with a rebate.

I tried the O&A codes, and they were a no go.

The employee codes on the other hand, they still worked.

A bit risky, this.

Did you notice they updated the dislaimer/warning notice language?

You must be authorized to redeem this offer and agree that XM Satellite Radio reserves the right to charge the full MSRP of the radio receiver(s), plus other applicable fees and taxes, at any time if this information cannot be verified

So you have to weigh the savings VS how much it will cost if they bust you

Has anyone had any problems with this yet?

What tuner are you looking for?

I just used the O&A code OPIANTXM6 again at http://partners.xmradio.com and it works just fine. I did't complete the checkout, but it offered me the XM2Go tuners for $99 and the SkyFi2 w/both home and car kits for $49 - Roady XT was free. Some of the employee prices may be a little less, but not worth the risk IMHO to order that way.

I stand corrected.

When I clicked one of the links earlier, it took me to a dead promo page.

They both seem to work now.

With the current mail order prices and $50 rebate, you are about as well off to get an XM2go retail and get the $50 MIR - ends up being about the same or maybe less. You might can score a free 3 month trial if you are a new customer or just add it directly to your family plan. With the new rules you have to keep the promo tuners on the full price plan for 6 months before you can transfer to your existing plan, so this makes it cost you $36 more over the 6 months which makes a RETAIL XM2go a better deal.

Note that the new XM/MP3 combo tuners are coming out soon - better and smaller then the ToGo stuff, but they will cost a lot more money (at first), but may also cause the XM2GO prices to drop some as well.

How so?

What options do I have other than the 'full price plan', as a retail subscriber?

As a new subscriber you may can get XM to give you a 3 month trial. Do a search here on FW for XM and it is mentioned in a couple of the threads.

So you buy the Tao XM2Go for $155 or so, get the $50 MIR so you final cost is $105 + shipping. If you get the 3 month free deal then that is all you pay for 3 months. In any case, you could go on the pre-pay plan right away or after the 3 months. This drops the cost per month from $12.95 to $11.87 or $11.33 or $9.99 per month.

If you buy the promo unit you pay the $99 price plus shipping and have to pay full price for 6 months ($12.95 x 6 = $77.77).

Better still, if you have a friend or family member on XM buy the retail radio and have them activate in on their family account for $6.99 a month. You COULD do this with the promo tuner too, but you have to wait now until 6 months has passed at full price.

The bottom line is the promo WAS a good deal when the XM2Go tuners were $200 or more, but now that the after rebate price is about the same as the promo price it is not such a hot deal.

Something like the SkyFi2 tuner with both home and car kits is still a lot better via the promo with a $49 + shipping price. That is about the cost of a SINGLE kit. At retail the tuner and car kit bundle is $120 most places with a $30 MIR = $90 + $45 or so for the home kit = $135 VS $49 promo.

The partner code is still working as is the O&A code. They now show the new Pioneer Inno tuner ($300 or $270) and the NeXus (out of stock at $220/270) and other, newer tuners and bundles.

Both require a 6 month commitment at full price and the partner code still threatens full retail charge back if you are not supposed to be using the partner system (you don't work for XM or the designated partners). I don't know of anyone who has been charged-back, but you never know.
