Dwynne said:I got in on the Opie and Anthony XM promo deal way back then, which got me on their e-mail list (though I don't listen to them). I got this in today's mail bag:

Since they are sending this out to all their listeners, I would say this is legit and you would have no fear of some card charge backlash.

Dwynne said: Activation is having XM put the radio ID into their system. There is normally a charge for this ($10 online, $15 over the phone). These promo radios are supposed to ship pre-activated - meaning the radio IDs have been put in the system. Once in the system the ID is then sent out along with the tunes (and all the other authorized IDs). Then when you get your tuner, you turn it on and get a signal. If you wait long enough (maybe a day?) your tuner should "hear" its ID and start working. By going to the refresh page and putting in your radio ID, you speed this process up by instructing the system to go ahead and send your ID "now".
The process of getting the tuner to work would be called "authorization" or in XM's case a refresh. This is NOT activation. A few folks are reporting they can't get the refresh to work since Metron messed up scanning in their tuner IDs.
See the difference? Authorization VS activation? They designed the package to let a bar code reader scan the ID w/o opening the package. You place the order and as the pull and pack it they scan the ID and instruct the system you have a subscription. Your 3 month pre-pay starts at that time. Since they can't connect the tuner up w/o opening the package, they can't authorize (refresh) it, so it comes out of the package w/o any subscription - but the system has your ID "activated" by the scan. You just need to get your tuner to know it should work, you do this by just letting it get a good signl from the sats and can speed it up at the refresh page (or by calling and asking for a refresh).
So you need to:
1) Get your new tuner connected and working with audio on channel 1 w/plenty of signal - leave it on 2) Go to the refresh web page 3) Put in the radio ID - this is on the radio or tuner channel 0 4) Wait 30-60 minutes then see if you can tune the other channels
If the system will not accept your tuner ID, then yours is indeed NOT AUTHORIZED and you will have to call Metron then XM. If it does accept your ID, then it should be in the system and should work.

Very important !!!!!!!!!!!!
As soon as you receive your radio try it out (or just hide it and let it stay on after you know it picks up all channels) to make sure it is OK. To quote the offer "Returns are not accepted. Exchanges are accepted for defective equipment only and within 30 days of hardware receipt. All sales are final."
If you wait til xmas and it is defective you will be pressed for time.

Those are great prices! I have the original SkyFi and paid more than those prices just for the accessory kits (not including the tuner). And the SkyFi2 is even better than the original!
fercho said:How do you buy them at this price if you are a current customer?
Just order it. You have to keep them current, but I'm keeping one to replace my skyfi si I'll just disactivate my old one.
You'll prepay three months so IU'm not sure if you can convert them to the $6.99 family plan. Concidering I'm getting $150 dollars of equipment for $49, I'll eat the extra few dollars in the beginning. I know my luck, I'd call trying to save a few $$$ and I'd ruin the deal for everyone else.
If anyone knows if you can convert then to a family plan and have them credit the ammount prepaid, that'd be even better.

I haven't ordered through this offer although I'm tempted to get yet another one... but when I ordered through a similar (not F&F) offer earlier this year, I just made sure to subscribe it to the same name and billing address.
After I got the unit and installed it, I called up Customer Service and asked "how do I go about adding this to my main account under the Family Plan" and they said that since it was a promotional offer (and I had pre-paid for 3 months at regular monthly price), I couldn't merge it into the main account until the 90 days were up.
I called after 90 days and they instantly merged the two accounts and gave me the 2nd unit at the discounted Family Plan rate from then on.
I assume this offer will work similarly but maybe someone else can confirm.

I don't think they'll cancel any orders or even stop it for awhile. When I did my deal last year it was active for awhile before they cancelled it. They might not be making any money, buy they are adding subscriptions and that looks good on the stock market.
Ex::: I only had one subscription and now I'll have 4 (maybe 5 if my coworkers will pay me $10 to leave my old skyfi with them).

It's from early 2003 so I'm sure it's not on FW anymore.
It was a skyfi and homekit for $100 (when it would have been about $200, $130 for the unit and $70 for the kit) I had to keep it active for three months like this deal.
If anyone is intrested in another XM deal (I think the above is much hotter) Here's the O&A Link
Code is OPANXM04
This is the older skyfi unit and you have to pay $1.99 extra for three months.FW thread
Most likely they do sales & marketing for XM. They handled the other deals.
If you go to their website, they state they are in Knoxville Tn.
