There are two variations of the V120 for TracFone. V120t (TDMA) and V120c (CDMA) - it just depends on your area. |

drjofis said:Question for tracfone experts: I've had (wifey's phone) the nokia 5180i for two years with tracfone and I've been around here long enough to know the ins and outs of these deals ( ... and I remember the old days of referral begging). I'm undecided between two possible options. I need to upgrade to a new phone but have lots of mins on my current phone (over 600) so I will refer myself and transfer the minutes from the old phone to my new one. I want to get a new phone with one year activation, and take advantage of the 200 bonus mins (good till 1/15/05 it appears). So here is my question.
Should I go for the refurb nokia 1221 with 1 year for $95 (+ shipping) or the 1100 double min plan for $150 (free shipping). The additional mins and potential double mins with the 1100 would be more attractive if I did not already have so many mins to begin with - in reality I will not likely need to buy more this year. I would love to hear if anyone has an opinion about the difference between these phones. Is the gsm 1100 worth an extra $50? What do you all think. Thanks.
Either scenario is possible, EXCEPT if you want to take your phone number with you when you switch phones. The 5180i you currently have is a CDMA phone (probably on Verizon) and switching to the 1221 (TDMA) or 1100 (GSM) means you'll lose your phone number. I would get the refurb'd 2285 ($29.99 deal..you know, 100min card + phone) and get the 1-year card separately or whatever. If you are fine with losing your number, I would then recommend the 1221.
Anyway, if you want more information just post your questions and I'll respond later tonight. |

My local Wal-Mart had several of the BLUE bullet packaged Motorola V120 (ugly sucker ain't it?) and NONE of them said one year anywhere on the package. ALL of them did say 10 free minutes (with activation) like in BuonaFortuna's scans. The hang tag had them priced at 34.98

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I do not care to keep the phone number, no calls are received on this phone. Also, the 2285 is not offered in my area (only 1221,1100,v120, or v60 currently offered in my zip code). |

Follow up to above post:
Bad news for me, looks like the refurb 1221 with 1 year card deal was pulled. I could get the 1221 with 100 min card for $30, then find the 1 yr card separately.

Great deal if you can find the packages that include a year - I recently moved to Canada, so I got this phone myself at Sam's before moving for the $60 to use for voicemail only and when I travel in the US. Turns out, it works in Canada and deducts 2 units per minute as if it were roaming. Not a bad deal, IMO, considering the cost of prepaid phones up here! Also, it's great because I have a post-paid GSM phone here, and when I get outside the city in the boonies, my GSM won't work but since the Tracfone runs off the SaskTel CDMA network, it works great Now I just need to start fleabaying referrals to get more minutes! |

($2 cheaper at Staples -- but Meijer is a lot closer and I go every week)

Do you actually get a SIM card with 1100 or Do they have some kinda inbuilt SIM to activate these phones?
If you can interchange the SIMs in 1100 then I will definately get to use while I am travelling to asian countries.
Please help.

There is a SIM card that comes with the 1100. I just activated one of those phones for my father the other day. |

The 1100 has an actual sim card. You have to place it into the phone yourself before activating it. |

Do Tracfone minutes expire? I know Virgin Mobile you have to buy minutes every 90 days whether you have any left or not. With Alltel as long as you use a minute a month they don't expire.

How does Virgin (basic phone with $10 airtime at target for $39.99 compare to Tracphone? (Virgin is $0.25 a minute for 1st 10 a day then 10cents a min....)
Help appreciated.
Also, does Sprint have prepaid wireless? |

Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint PCS network. They have the best pricing per minute but you have to spend $20 or more every 90 days. As far as I know Sprint no longer has prepaid, I think they recommend Virgin Mobile.

Has anyone been successful in transferring minutes from one Tracfone to another Tracfone recently? I did this for years -- getting a new phone every year as well as referral minutes and then transferring the minutes from the old phone to the new phone. When I tried to do this again back in February 2004, I was told that they would no longer do this unless the old phone was defective. |

I did this about 3 months back without any problem. Took about 20 minutes. |
