I don't think this is a price mistake. The retail price is seriously inflated, and the quality is bound to be poor. A great ring to get started, but plan on replacing it for something with a little more quality when you can afford it.

Note that this is not a regular, "white" diamond...

Look into moissanite instead or the new manmade diamonds (made in Florida, I believe). Much cheaper for all us fatwalleters and (for the actual manmade diamonds) indistinguishable from "real" diamonds.

I feel sorry for the loser who actually paid $4999 for that thing. Another thing, if you shop for a diamond ring online, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.

Ok its one thing to to argue about "good" expensive diamonds vs cheap inexpensive diamonds.

But lets face it, its pure dumbness to pay thousands for a ROCK (even if it is really the good type diamond). I wouldnt want a girl who just 'feels' happy by wearing a $5000 - $10,000 rock; or her respect and attitude is somehow measured by how much I spend on a rock for her.
I would rather use that as a down payment for a house.

People used to buy diamonds and Gold becuase that was the only way to preserve currency (they didnt have paper bills). Although paper currency can also be generated (like diamonds) hence depreciation or inflation...therefore, It is stil a good idea to buy gold becaues gold is limited in the world and no one can make gold in a laboratory (it has to be made in star supernova). I read that the whole earths gold can be gathered up and it would be the size of a football stadium.

Anyway, buy her something ok ($1000 or less) and if she is not happy. then find someone who will be happy. There is plenty of fish in the sea and some are smart enough to know there is better things to spend your hard earned money than on Rocks!
