10 years ago I bought my wife (my finacee then) an almost 2 carat, E color, VVS2 diamond.
I'd do it again. |

Looks like something Mr. Roper would buy for Mrs. Roper. |

I bought an I diamond GIA certified and it's clarity is IF. THe thing has gone up in value four fold from what I paid. Great investment because the wife shows it off all the time and is happy. Paid $5k now worth over 20k. |

$8069 1ct Diamond Cluster Ring
Doesn't say that the Diamonds are "champagne", and the 14k gold itself might be worth the asking price.
That ring has a bunch of little bitty diamonds that add up to 1 Ct - Those sized diamonds are not expensive. The list price for that ring is BS in my humble opinion having bought a ring for about that price 10 years ago. |

daffydk said:Ok its one thing to to argue about "good" expensive diamonds vs cheap inexpensive diamonds.
But lets face it, its pure dumbness to pay thousands for a ROCK (even if it is really the good type diamond). I wouldnt want a girl who just 'feels' happy by wearing a $5000 - $10,000 rock; or her respect and attitude is somehow measured by how much I spend on a rock for her. I would rather use that as a down payment for a house.
People used to buy diamonds and Gold becuase that was the only way to preserve currency (they didnt have paper bills). Although paper currency can also be generated (like diamonds) hence depreciation or inflation...therefore, It is stil a good idea to buy gold becaues gold is limited in the world and no one can make gold in a laboratory (it has to be made in star supernova). I read that the whole earths gold can be gathered up and it would be the size of a football stadium.
Anyway, buy her something ok ($1000 or less) and if she is not happy. then find someone who will be happy. There is plenty of fish in the sea and some are smart enough to know there is better things to spend your hard earned money than on Rocks!
Thats the way my girlfreind BETTER feel about it. |

I was thinking of the exact same thing. I always joked I was going to get my girl a cognac diamond after seeing this movie.
BTW don't buy this as it is total crap. |

Does anyone have a free shipping code...not for this ring but I saw a few of the hot deals that i would like to get..
As for the discussion on diamonds. My first engagement ring was small. My husband didn't have alot of money then. After we had outr first child he got me the big expensive ring. Sometimes I still wear the little one, it meant alot more at the time and it came from the heart... |

Look into moissanite instead or the new manmade diamonds (made in Florida, I believe). Much cheaper for all us fatwalleters and (for the actual manmade diamonds) indistinguishable from "real" diamonds.
Diamonds this color probably come from Australia, but your point is very valid. |

Well, my personal circumstances at the time let me afford it pretty easily--no kids, a big sign-on bonus, no mortgage payment, no car payment. Now, ten years later, with student loan payments ending, but with 3 kids and a pretty big mortgage, I would probably be able to do it again with not much problem. But, it would have really been difficult in the intervening years.
It's not really just about the diamond you know. It's about personal circumstances, your relationship and understanding with the girl and where your values are. I could have afforded more at the time, but we both felt comfortable for various reasons at what we chose.
We still marvel at it and enjoy the memories behind it and thinking about how far we've come in that time. That's worth something as well. |

If you're drinking brown champagne, you need to change brands. |

As someone who used to deal in diamonds, I'd say that you better have a look at this before you buy it. My guess is that this will be a nice cloudy brown, with some black specks of carbon too. A champagne diamond can be an expensive diamond IF the only thing effected is the color and not the clarity. However in most cases, the clarity is about an I3 (barely above industrial grade). An imperfection causes the brown color and that same imperfection usually kills the clarity too.
Unlike any piece of technology, diamonds don't have a shelf life and have a very stable base price (you can thank deBeers for that). Therefore anyone offering clearance prices on diamonds are almost certainly selling clearance-rate diamonds. (Not that you can't get a WAY better price on the exact same ring from Tiffanys or Birks.) And never buy sight unseen.
This is what the Diamond Guy says: http://www.thediamondguy.com/diamond_education/ask/view_item.asp?ID=94
