Yum, brown champagne. I guess "Champagne Diamond" sounds better than "Feces Diamond". The diamond in the OP link didn't look that brown....

I'm still not drinking any brown champagne.

I purchased my wife's ring online and every local jeweler that my wife has shown it to has been equally impressed both with the quality and price. It is GIA certified and I was given the papers for my inspection prior to purchase. I was also given 14 or 30 days (I forgot which) to decide if I really wanted to keep it once I had the gem in my posession. Not very many people have an internally flawless, D color, and nearly perfect cut diamond.

I've recomended the vendor several times over in deal discussion or off topic and have yet to hear of someone being unhappy with them. There are many reputable internet dealers that will give you a good price. Of course, you are never going to see a diamond that is truely valued at $4000 go for $400 unless you stumble across a lucky (and risky) eBay deal.

The general rule of thumb is that you get what you pay for, within reason.

I would not recommend getting jewelry over the internet.

In for one. If the quality is not good, it is going back. S/H is $8.95 by the way...

By the way, I have bought two diamond rings online so far. As it turns out, they are good quality diamonds (as assessed by local GIA certified jewellers) and the prices were below the local retail ones (by a LOT).

I have bought diamonds online and can tell you that online selection and prices are infinitely better what you will find at a local jeweler. Try looking at www.pricescope.com. For a great informational site, try www.goodoldgold.com.

I bought a diamond 3 years ago at www.Ashford.com in their outlet store. I just looked and I dont see the outlet diamond store (the regular diamond store is still there) but it might still be there somewhere. I am not sure how a diamond ever goes into an outlet, (new model coming?) but I must say I was very impressed. First off they breakdown diamond by every imaginable way cut, clarity, color, polish, shape... on and on. They all have certificates that you can view online from EGL or GIA, and there is no salesman pressure since its online (BIG +). I could actually look at all the flaws before they shipped it to me, which were invisible to an untrained eye. The diamond I received was a Radient, Ideal cut, D color, VS2, 1.15 caret, in a platinum setting all for $3700. I got it in outlet, with a coupon for 10% off, and free shipping, no tax (since they are in texas and I am in california). The diamond came in a security pouch so if anyone opened the bag I would know it. First thing I noticed when I received it was how small it was compared to the blown up pictures I was seeing online and for $4000 I was a little surprised but once I put it on her finger it looked right. Anyhow we went to Robins Brothers to get my ring and the jewelers were telling me I made a great selection, they also tested it to make sure it was a real diamond (whew it was) and even cleaned it too for free. I think the best advise I was given was I asked someone what was the most important of the 4 "c"'s? I was told color so that is why I got a D with more flaws than some others. Flaws are usually pretty hard to see unless you have a very low quality diamond, color you can see from a mile away. Also there was a 30 day money back guarantee, but at that price for that quality, I would be crazy. Last thing they included a free appraisal with the ring and it appraised for $8000, I am not sure if its worth that much but I see others on Ashford now for $6000. Appraisal was great for insurance purposes. Another perk of online.

My 2cents, FYI I was able to get my band at Costco for about $200 less then Robins Brothers, I tried to price match but they said that was below their cost. OK Mr Were the king of wedding rings... Anyways... Enjoy.

PS. D color rings are amazing you dont really notice it until "the women compare" diamonds and at that point you really score BIG. Even if the other ring is bigger D color stands out. Also bigger is not always better 1 caret for my girl was just about as big as I would go since her finger is small, at least thats what I tell her right?

Thanks for sharing the http://www.pricescope.com site. Looks good.

It would be nice for others talking about their online purchases to share the site they used.

Diamonds.

A way of putting yourself in debt to show someone you love them with a material good.

What a beautiful tradition.

Wasn't a debt for me. I would imagine it doesn't put a lot of people into debt.

Whatever gets you through the day . . .

I would like to see someone actually PAY you that $20K...
Diamonds are a horrible investment - just try selling one and you will see. Most people purchasing diamonds stay away from private sales, and the dealers won't give you more than maybe 20-30% of the "value", since they can buy that $20K diamond for $5K or less.

BTW, I actually bought my wife 2 diamonds - the first one got lost when a prong in her band broke
