I took the motorcycle into town intending to only stop by OMax and use the 20% off clearance coupon. After getting what I needed at Omax, I stopped by Kmart.
[I was really only interested in kmart's on-going cleaance on PC networking stuff, the wireless 802.11g components by linksys. [however, the prices were same as last week,no further clearance prices on the D-link stuff].
Went to the tool dept and found several tools and accessories, with discounts of 50 to 90%.
SIDENOTE: Mgr said a lot of the Benchtop brand tools are being clearanced. Probably like mentioned in other FW threads;Kmart is getting rid of it's own "brand" of merchandise, due to the Kmart/Sears teaming.
Anyway, they had 2 different sets of these Benctop brand drills/extension/bitdrivers, at 90% off. Prices and UPC follow: 1. $9.99 down to $1.00 07200077466 2. $7.99 down to .80 cents 07200077464
Other items, black & decker, were: 1. B&D sander head, WAS 8.99, now .90 cents 05114409176 2. B&D drill with depth stop piece, was $6.99, just .70 cents 02887401240
Benchtop brand tool set: 1. The 431 piece tool set, now $20.00. "supposedly" the original price was like $59.99 or $69.99 07200077827 2. Benchtop brand "LASER" jigsaw, was $49.99, now $20.00 07200080660 3. Benchtop sander, was $24.99, now $8.00 [can't read receipt, too light on that last item] 4. benchtop circular saw no price tag, but scanned at $14.00 07200077456
It couldn't have come at a better time. I'm helping a group [nonprofit] do some remodeling and hopefully we'll have the power tools and accessories we need.
Thanks! Great prices. However, I wonder if they will honor their warranties if you break one. Supposed to be lifetime warranty on the handtools. I've got a benchtop mitersaw and also their table saw and they both work fine. Not the finest tools out there but a great deal at these prices if the warranty is more than a couple months. Thank goodness kmart is changing THEIR name. I was afraid Sears would change and no more forever warranty on craftsman hand tools. Plus the name of Kmart could sink the Queen Mary. I figured both companies would quickly sink to the bottom of the retail world and go out of business right after the merger. This gives me some hope.

I put mine on my AMEX card, that extends the warranty up to 1 year.
Hopefully if kmart bails out of the warranty, these other guys will cover it.

And if you can't warranty it - you are only out $1 or $.80.
I just want to add my experience in the Detroit area (Rochester Hills and Clawson). The Rochester Hills store has a pretty major clearance event and the other has none, so it's YMMV according to store location. The one with clearance is in the process of being converted to something else (still Kmart/Sears). Guess Clawson store is staying the same so no discount. There is a section up front where all the marked down merchandise is. Rest of the store is pretty sparse. Lots of clothes for 50% off, electronics at 30% off, paint 60% off, 30% off toys, etc. All % discount off lowest marked price. I got a bunch of "Ink Station" Epson compatible ink for $1.75, regularly supposedly $11.99. Epson OE T007 ink for $13.30. Saw some hefty heavy galvanized shelving with 2 big drawer for $27.xx regularly $70, though at the other store it's only marked for $49. Lots of spray paint, some health & beauty, car headlamps, seatcovers (50%), synthetic and dino motor oil (10w40, don't know what uses that weight), lots of toys. Wasn't impressed with the price or selection of hand tools amd power tool because I'm not in need of any tools. But if you're in need like the OP, there might be good deals for you. It's not just the Benchtop, but B&D among other brands.
I was told no returns or exchanges on any clearance items for whatever reason.
BTW, the Clawson store with no clearance already has a huge section of Craftsman tools (tool chests, hand, power, tec). Looks like the Sears/Kmart team has already begun to take effect.

Bought a Benchtop JigSaw for $9.00, Benchtop Tool Box $5.00, and a benchtop Crow Bar thing for $2.00. Thanks for the find.
Does this mean that Benchtop tools are going to be replaced with Sears Craftsman tools?
Benchtop hand tools are supposedly warranted for life, but unlike most other brands, they may not have any distinctive brand markings on them, meaning you should keep the packaging and receipt in case you need a replacement, especially because Kmart stores aren't very familiar with normal hand tool warranties, i.e., stupid. Some of their tools are marked "Benchtop" but on the vinyl handles rather than stamped into the steel, and that printing can rub off in use.

Been to a couple Kmarts around the bay area with no success.
Thanks, OP. What state do you live? Is this nationwide?
My local kmart is only 1/4 mile away from Sears in Maryland. Will they consolidate the stores or let them compete with each other?
1. I am in southern NM, zipcode 88001.
About 45 miles west of el paso.
2. I'm not sure if it is nationwide or not.
I suspect it is the usual YMMV.
3. I would think that it would be better to let them compete than to consoidate. [Example: the casinos in las vegas have lots of "sister" casinos that compete with each other. In the end, the money still ends up in the same place. Example2: station casinos].

I heard that Stanley tools are going to start their way in to Kmart, along with some Craftsman tools.
I got the palm sander for $10, a Dremel knock-off for $15, and the laser jigsaw for $20. I also got some generic allen wrench sets for $1.00 each. This was at the Fort Wayne, IN Kmart on Coliseum Blvd.
