That might not be a wise idea because if you lose your phone or it somehow breaks, you will lose the minutes that are on the phone. Minutes are not stored on the network like most prepaids so I wouldn't put too many minutes on it.
On the other side of the coin and to clarify: I don't see any technical reason why this couldn't be done a second time to extend service time to a total of 730 days. If TracFone is limiting the promotional code to 1X per ESN, then you would know immediately when the promotional code was rejected and the price wasn't adjusted down.
TracFone maintains a record of units on your phone in both their system database as well as on your phone. If you somehow fail to complete an airtime redemption transaction by successfully adding units to your phone but not acknowledging to their system that the code was accepted, their system will not know that your phone displays something different from what their system record indicates. Despite what your phone displays for airtime and service, their system will cancel your service when their records indicate that you have run out of minutes or your service date has passed. So when completing an airtime redemption transacation, it's worth taking the time to make sure that units and service time they display agrees with your phone's record.
As for losing minutes, it all depends upon the level of risk that you're comfortable with. As S105dude stated, if you lose your phone, you lose the service and units you have purchased. I've used TracFone for years -- almost since the beginning of their service. As a result I have thousands of unused units on my phone (thanks also to great FW deals on airtime units). From my point of view, if I were to lose my phone today, I would still have enjoyed years of very cost-effective telephone service that has been adequate for my needs. Contrast that with being locked into a service contract and losing a phone. |

From the site:
TracFone Rollover: Add airtime before your due date and your remaining minutes and service days will rollover and be added to your phone, to a maximun of 120 days with any combination of regular airtime cards or 730 days with any combination of annual plan cards

Many thanks to nooch, Larryslug, and the poster of the Staples v120t clearance deal. Final total, v120t, 14 months service and 370 minutes for $70 (used Teacher's reward and 12% coupon at Staples). Got similar deal for wife (extra 100 minutes for self-referral) on v60i for $90. Just what I needed. One final question for Tracfone experts, I'll be taking the v60 on a trip next month. It's a TDMA (I'm in NY) and I will be driving cross country. Will I be unable to access the Tracfone system for some sections of the country? If so, is there any map that will show where I will lose service. |

You need to figure out who your *real* carrier is and then find their service coverage map. You might try dialing information (411 -or- (AREA CODE)555-1212) in order to hear an automated greeting from the carrier with whom you are about to connect. For me it's Verizon. From there go to the carrier's web site to find their coverage.
For GSM & CDMA coverage maps in the US, have a look at http://www.cellular-news.com/coverage/usa.php. They also have a listing for world coverage here: http://www.cellular-news.com/coverage/ |

Called them and told them the 100 minutes were not added when redeeming the card. The nice CS helped me add it. Good deal for 1 year service with 250 minutes, which I used to pay $95. |

After purchase confirmation screen, next screen is begin addition continue after that and the next screen is Enter code and the screen has a 24 digit code.
At that point I called the CSR and asked to add the promotion code The CSR asked me to enter the exact same code and got the extra 100 min as well. Thanks OP, great deal!

I'm going for this deal using my V120 from Staples. I'm assuming that the steps would be: 1) Register the phone online for 10 + 10 minutes/60 days activation, 2) Purchase the 1 year card w/150 minutes, then enter the code for the additional 100 minutes. Right? Couldn't you do the referral 100 minutes at phone activation, then do the card purchase + 100 additional minutes? Also, the point that the earlier poster made was an interesting one. I've got an old Tracfone that still shows (probably a couple of hundred) minutes on it, although it's been inactive for a long while. The last time a renewed it with a new card, the additional minutes seemed to add to the ones that were already on the phone. If what I'm understanding is correct, regardless of what my phone shows, my old minutes bite the dust in the Tracfone system when the card expires, right? So I can't transfer minutes from my old phone to a new one (even if my old phone has been reactivated)? |

True.. I'm not comfortable because I feel like I'm putting all my eggs in one basket and at anytime it could be gone. It's one thing to slowly accumulate minutes but I wouldn't go overboard. It's funny that even though I paid for roughly 200 of the 2000 minutes I have (and used) I still don't like the fact that the minutes are stored on the phone. Referrals have kept my two TracFones alive for the past 2.5 years. I've had them since they had analog phones (off and on until 2.5 years ago) and despite switching to postpaid four years ago, I have kept TracFone as a backup.
On the flip side to losing your phone with postpaid, all you have to do is pickup a cheap phone from eBay and resume your service. No minutes lost.
I'm going to think about adding this to a TracFone I just activated with an awesome phone number.. It's in the form of 123-4444 which is pretty neat. I'm just going to throw it in the car to use for 411 (which by the way, is surcharge-less on TracFone.) |

You have 120 days after your due date before your minutes expire. You are correct in saying that because your phone has been inactive for a while, when you reactivate it, it will not carry over the old minutes. As far as the referral deal, yes, do the referral (100min) then buy the 1-year card - and it looks like after you add the 1-year card, you'll have to call for the extra 100 minutes. |

nooch said: direct link to the page to enter the code is https://www.tracfone.com/purchase_airtime.jsp?task=buyairtime&fromPopup=true This deal only works if you already have a Tracfone phone. You are only buying the minutes, not the phone + the minutes.
Is this airtime valid for 1 year? |

Darn, I was gonna get the 1 year double minutes plan, but for 1 year, and 150 minutes + 20 + 100 referrel. for $50, I can still buy 2 cards and get bonuses through the year and end up about the same deal I imagine, cause with the double minute one I was gonna end up around 500 minutes, this way I'll still get around 250+ and spend $100 less initially to do so, allowing me to buy some of the $40 cards and use discount codes to pack up some more minutes. Its stretching the payment out for me more than anything, but good nonetheless.
Good find Op, phone should be here today, so the timing couldn't be better |

I see how the code in the first post saves $40, and went to the site where it worked. Before I order, how does the 100 additional minutes come into play? |
