call them to get the 100 additional units.

Thanks OP! Great deal - I just redeemed the 1 year online and called 800# for 100 bonus minutes - no problem adding either, and I was done in about 10 minutes or less. Total price for me including tax = $52.74.

Kraptser! I went to activate my V120C, and (after MUCH screwing around) I found out that my phone was "defective." It works fine, but doesn't have the Tracfone software loaded, so there is no Prepaid option on the menu. Tracfone customer service gave me a case number and told me that they would replace the phone, but I have to ship it back to them on my dime (for which they will compensate me by providing an additional 30 free units). Plus, it will be 7 to 10 business days before I see the replacement phone - they didn't say so, but I'm sure that's 7 to 10 days from when they receive my original phone. What the CSR told me (after I explained about wanting to buy the 1 year card online while the promotion was still in effect) is that I could buy it, even if I didn't have an active phone, and it would just show in the system as "unused" utill I was ready to redeem it. I wonder if she's full of it, or what?
BTW, I've already thought about returning it to Staples for a replacement, but the store from which I purchased didn't have any more V120's left, plus I used a Customer Appreciation coupon and my Staples Rewards to purchase, so I see problems in trying that. Any suggestions?

Thanks OP. Really great post. It will save my money. I do not use cell-phone much, so tracfone is great for me (just for emergencies!). Only bad part is that you have to buy air-time in every 2-3 months to keep the phone active. With the help of this great post, I bypassed that problem!

BIG Green to OP.

I would like to say that their customer service (or at least the person I talked to) is really great. I talked to a guy who was really really really nice and helpful. I never found such a good CSR like him.

Good luck if you try to go the route with returning it to tracfone. They screwed up my return so bad (took several phone calls (some threating to sue them) and over a month for them to get one out), it was one of the reasons why I left them. There customer support/service is the worst that I've ever seen. The other reason was cause the coverage went downhill (degraded!) around here and they pretty much just gave me the run around. I wouldn't take another tracfone even if they paid me to use it. Btw, i'm not meaning to threadcrap, just giving some advise.

Yeah their exchange program sucks. Customer service is adequate, nothing nightmareish or extraordinary. I have two CDMA and one TDMA TracFone as backups and as long as I don't need to call customer service the phones are awesome.

Here is another code: 56843
Add 200 Minutes and get 100 Bonus Minutes.
Not hot, but someone may need this!

For those of you that are buying these clearance phones from Staples, do this yearly card bargain as well as make sure you get another 100 free via email before you activate the phone you buy at Staples.

i don't quite understand the self referral thing. here is my situation, i have a tracfone with 200 mins, expires august of this year. i just bought a tracfone from Staples for my sister. I want to get me a 1 yr prepaid and her one too. How do i do the referrals? Can i refer myself AND then refer my sister ALSO, if so how? This is all very confusing to me, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Those doing the Staples deal should work out like this:

-20 minutes (activation online)
-100 minutes (you need to have someone refer you BEFORE you activate...VERY important)
-150 minutes with 1-year card @ $49.99
-100 promo minutes by calling customer service and saying it didn't get added when you bought the 1-year card

=370 minutes to use over 12 months. Not bad eh?

PM me if you have any questions. I'm fluent in TracFone, or so I'd like to think

You send a referral using the serial number of YOUR TracFone. You then activate your sister's TracFone and use the referral after you're done. You will then each get 100 minutes.

I am no Tracfone expert but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night so I'll give your questions a try.

1. You can't do a self referral because your phone is already activated. The referral bonus is for new activations. Just refer your sister. You will each get 100 minutes.

2. As described, each buy the 1 year plan and get 150 minutes using code in OP. Call after doing it and say you didn't get the 100 minute bonus when you bought the 1 year plan and give them the 100 code.

As far as the order your sister should add the minutes, ask a real expert. I added the 100 referral minutes last.

Experts please correct errors.

Does the 100 bonus minutes add any months to the expiration date?

1. Most people say "self referral" because it's two phones that you bought. It's not like you had someone you don't know on FW refer you. Even though it's her sister's phone, I think I'd still call it a self referral only because she's doing the activating and what not.

2. Yup, that's correct.

3. It doesn't matter what order you add the minutes in if you're doing this 1-year deal.

This deal is smokin for users. My wife and I both did it tonight over the phone.

Has anyone had success keeping the number when changing to a new model of tracfone? I'd hate to lose my number. The old nokia is about to give up.

alert mods

I was able to keep my old (Tracfone) phone number on a new phone by calling customer service and having them walk me through deactivating the old phone and activating the new phone with the old phone number. That was a couple of years ago, but I was able to keep the old expiration date and minutes. I seem to remember not being able to get the bonus minutes for online-activation since I didn't activate online, but that wasn't a concern for me.

I don't think anyone mentioned this, but since no FatCash is available, there is a 4% Ebates rebate link.

alert mods

Thanks for all the replies, that is exactly what i needed to know.

Ebates seems to be getting really picky about crediting you if you used a promo or coupon, on several occasions I emailed them after 30 days and they told me i didn't receive the money because of a coupon. Of course it doesn't hurt to try!

alert mods

I went through Ebates and got the credit already!!
