I talked to my cousin today and he asked me what internet he should go with, I told him to call SBC because they are reliable (at least for me), and the price was right $19.95/ month. He called them and they told him to wait until tommorrow because they are having a special for $14.95/ month with 1 year agreement. The best part for my cousin is that in his house he added DSL to his second line, which comes with another $5 off, so he is only going to spend $9.95.
UPDATE: I was able to rerate to $14.95 even though I was in a contract for $19.95
UPDATE: My cousin did subscribe to new service for $9.95 (due to the second line clause)
UPDATE: Possible $100 rebate through Dell until 6/30!!!!

The Representative added DSL to the second line in his house and she told him that as a result of adding it to his second line there is another $5 credit.

was wondering the exact same thing.
also, how fast (or slow) is this DSL service?
I rmemember checking last time, and it was quite a bit slower than cable and Verizon DSL in my local market?
Can anyone tell me for sure from experience?

YellowLens i pay ~$18/month for local land line. reportedly, SBC has an unadvertised $3-5/month plan that gives you like 60 local minutes of calling a month or something. i was thinking of switching to this, but haven't gotten around to calling about it.

For that price, I think you can get like 1.5 mb/sec down and 256 mb/sec up. ($15 if that is true) Comcast Cable is like 3.0 mb/sec down and 384 mb/sec up in most area. ($30-$50)
If $15 a month is true, I will go for SBC since 1.5 mb/sec is enough for me and I am not running any web/ftp server, so the upload speed doesn't really bother me.
Still waiting on my VoIP line to be ported to SBC. For me, I signed up for: 1) Local Saver Pack Unlimited $9.50/month Unlimited local calling for one low monthly rate 2) JustCall Standard $0.00 10¢ per minute Want a flat per minute rate with no monthly fee
The total for that and the other fees & taxes will come out to about $21/month but it'll be $16/month for the first year (they gave me $5 off per month for 1 year for coming back to SBC)
Just waiting for my AT&T VoIP number to port to my landline...

OK So I just called SBC, jatan you got a great rate on your service, I tried and tried and could not get a rate as low as $9.50, I have BTW Flat line residential for $14.53 (not including tax). I also talked to the DSL department and they flagged my account and told me that a closed -door rep. (whatever that is) would look into my account in 48 hours and adjust it when a code is available, the $14.95 rate was not in their system yet. Remember I am in CT, so different deals here, jatan where are you area wise? Under $40 for SBC Yahoo! DSL Standard Plus and Unlimited Local calls and .10/minute long distance with no monthly fee including tax is good right?

I have this (or similar) service. It's called Measured Rate. It costs me $5.73/mo before taxes and fees and $16.52 after taxes and surcharges. Stupid "surcharge" fees = $9.21. They add a surcharge fee onto the DSL service too. These surcharges aren't taxes, SBC keeps all of this money and it goes to the bottom line for them. Anyway, the Measured Rate gives you 25 outgoing calls (unlimited incoming) per month. Calls in excess of 25 cost you eight cents each.
I'm using SunRocket (and love it, BTW). I'm only keeping my SBC phone line because it's a requirement of the DSL. So in essence I'm paying $38/month for my BroadBand Access($19.95/mo. for DSL plus a $1.47/mo fee they don't tell you about, plus $16.52 for the cheapest phone service I could get). If I had know about all these surcharges I would have stuck with my cable broadband and cut my ties with SBC completely. I hope I can get my monthly DSL reduced to $14.95/mo. That would ease the pain a bit.
Question though, what speed do you get with this deal? I heard that SBC offers both 1.5 and 3.0 megabits/second speeds... I'm guessing this is for the slower service? Will they have some sort of deal for the faster service too?

It's definitely the price for their entry-level 1500/384 DSL package. Great deal btw. I'm currently paying $50 month for 6000/600.
I think there's a new regulation requiring phone companies to offer their customers a choice of only DSL without bundling in phone services. Anybody heard any updates on that?
To get the cheapest DSL rate with SBC typically requires some type of enhanced local phone package. For example I have basic phone service, so I don't qualify for the low cost DSL service - I pay an extra $5.00. This is in North Texas - different rules may apply in different areas.

The cheapest land line is the METERED Line which SBC offers. It is for 12.95 Per Month.
It doesnt have any long distance only local. 20 Phone calls per month. 25 cents per phone call after that. Its a good option for people who use their cell phones as they main line.

I have the basic line, and I qualify although in the past some representatives stated that I needed this and that, I complained and went to the manager and got my way. You can always go to bbb.org if they are unfair with you.
If it's starting tomorrow then it'll probably show up online tomorrow or the day after (like when they started the $20/month deal, it was "online only") but you should be able to call in and get it
