Can't see a down side on this deal. How do these hold up?

does this have dvi output?

You can get a deal for about the same price and it includes monitor.Linky

great deal, almost as good as the sempron 3000+ system for $240.00 with no rebates 3 weeks ago.

i sold all 4 of those already, i might pick up 2 of these to resell for $500.00 a peice.

this is good because this is a 754 socket A64 BASED MOTHERBOARD, most likely a Via Km800 chipset, i will hit the store today and find out.

Nube02 said: You can get a deal for about the same price and it includes monitor.Linky

that Dell deal is not as good, its the oldass celery 2.4ghz 400fsb, not the celery D, even the celery D is not as fast as a A64 based sempron 3100+. also the Dell only has a 90 day warranty. and no dvd-rw drive, this is a much better deal. unless you are a Intel idiot and have to buy crappy slowass intel computers, because of brain washing buy the 3man group.

crappy slowass intel computers, Now those are words I can understand! I was wondering how
that other deal was a better deal. Looks like I'm off to Circuit City!
Thanks!

Please don't turn this into another AMD vs Intel thread.

Thanks OP, I got one I think it's a hot deal. I've had an older model emachines for a few years and it's never given me any problems.

dniksich said: Please don't turn this into another AMD vs Intel thread.

What difference does it make? They run the same operating system, anyway, right?

I wonder what is in the occupied PCI slot. Probably the modem?

will the Best Buy Kingston 512M DDR 333 for $30 work in this machine?

Nube02 said: You can get a deal for about the same price and it includes monitor.Linky

wrong. the Dell has no agp ie way to efficiently better the video. also the emachines has a dvd writer adn teh Dell does not. that is a $45 difference in favor of the emachine right there

Picked one up. Now to put in a FAR MadDog AGP card I picked up a while back and to find 512MB of cheap memory

I picked one up.

it is indeed a K8m800 chipset A64 compatible motherboard, it is a "FIC" I beleive just like the Office Depot $230.00 computer from 4 weeks ago.

It does have a AGP 8X slot.
It does not have fireware, or atleast mine does not.
the 56K modem is the only PCI card in it, so it has 2 free PCI slots.
i did not check the ram yet to see if it is pc2700 or pc3200, it could be either, you would hope it is pc3200, but you never know.

Now if somebody would post a modified bios so this could be overclocked, mose sempron 745 socket cpu's will do 400mhz to 800MHZ above ther rated speed.

http://www.fic.com.tw/product/motherboard/amd/k8m-800m.aspx

probably this motherboard, but i will have to look again.

Hmmmm...seems pretty good.

correction, this is indeed the fic motherboard with sata150 raid and firewire.

it is a K8M-800M snd should be flashable with the bios on FIC website. this is getting better all the time.

it also has the exact same pc3200 samsung ram as was in the Office Depot deal a month ago.

so this should be runnig full speed. i still have not booted it up yet, will do in just a minute.

it has a extra case fan on the back for better cooling, i do't know why though cause the sempron 3100+ socket 754 probably runs cooler than the socket A sempron 3000+.

if this thing overclocks well, this will be a awesome deal, for a super cheap start to a gaming rig.

tbogstad, did I read you right that this does have a firewire port?
Thanks!

yes it does. it has 2 of them.

on the bottom when you slide up the little door there is a 2 x usb and 2 x firewire and mike and head phone jack.

i booted up and it is runnig full speed 1.8ghz 256kb cache"which is half a A64 2800+" 400fsb ram is cas3,3,3,8 i am gonna flash the bios with the fic bios in just a minute.

it has a ok bios, but no way to set ram timimgs or anything, hopefully the new fic bios will give these functions. and maybe some overclocking. this thing runs super cool, the fan barely runs at all.

by the way, this has a liteon dvd-rw dual layer burner, which is good.

anybody wants more info , just ask.

could you please post a link to what bios we need to flash it to...

thanks

anybody wants more info , just ask.

DVI output?

My CC has a T3103 with 512 RAM, 2 front firewire, otherwise looks like same specs. It is 330 - 10 coupon = 320. Is it worth it for the extra RAM and maybe extra firewire?

thats is identical computer, just 256mb more ram.

is that $320.00 out the door, or after rebate??

cause at 320.00 + $16 tax that is $336.00 i my end cost is $325.00 after rebate and tax, so that is about the same deal, but no rebates, which is a plus, you are paying like $10.00 for a 256mb of pc3200 ram, which is a good deal.

definately worth not haveing to do rebates.

oh yeah, no DVI out, i don't think any motherboard has DVI out.

No same rebates. If same no. of firewire then paying 31.80 extra with tax for 256RAM. Is that worth it?

Who's the hard drive manufacturer? and what speed? i'm assuming 5400 eh

nobdy does 5400 any more, i am sure it is 7200rpm, but most likely 2mb cache.

let me check.

its a hitachi hard drive 60gb HDS722580VLAT20 says 7200rpm right on the drive, probably only 2mb cache.

but i can't be sure.

hey tbogstad!

Thanks for the blow by blow postings of your CC computer. It exciting to read them and i may just get one. I cant wait to hear about the new FIC bios and how it may overclock. Keep up the good work and thanks again!

chris

does it list the hard drive model number under Device Manager?

So this is better than the Dell 2400 for $200?
The technology between the celeron and the sempron is worth the extra money?
Im asking because I honestly dont know. Not to be argumentative.

It depends on what you want to do with this...for many the agp slot, and dvd burner are worth the $. I am thinking about using this as a low cost gaming machine/home theater pc for my brother who is in college.

The bad thing about the 2400 is no agp port. No games.

This Sempron 3100+ is MUCH faster than that Northwood core Celeron in the $200 Dell 2400. Whether the increase in speed, addition of DVD writer and firewire, decrease in hard disk space and better expansion options is worth 50% more in price is something you have to decide for yourself.

(But if you want my opinion, I would say yes. This Sempron 3100+ box really doesn't compete with that old Dell Celeron. Instead, you should be comparing it to the Celeron D 335 Prescott core systems with free 17" CRT monitor and printer for $299 AR from Best Buy or Office Depot instead. The answer to that one, IMO, is still the Sempron 3100+ system. Add your own Canon iP3000 or iP4000 printer with the $70 Canon rebate. Then figure out what to do for a monitor. 17" CRT is so last century anyway.)

does this have a floppy? or deos this have a space to install a floppy?

Thanks

A $200 Dell 2400?

You'd have to settle for 2 VERY stripped last generation celerons.

For those that just need ONE computer, this emachines would be worthwhile.

as i see it, the Dell won't come with free shipping if you buy just one, has a 90 day warranty, and is stripped with only a 48x cdrom.

in the end, it looks like the emachines would last longer in terms of upgradability.

no floppy, but it does support a floppy, whcih you could put in the open cd-rom bay with a adaptor, so for about $20.00 you could put in a floppy.

i have a floppy plugged-in but not installed in the case yet. it works fine, i am about to flash the bios, but i have to go to my birthday party, so maybe tomorrow.

Where is your Dell 2400 for $200? The minimum config I got from the link earlier in this thread was for $282 without a monitor or $298 with a crappy 17" CRT. (Maybe it expired, I don't know).

I think this Sempron deal completely blows that one away.

khalkhalash-
The Dell is the 2400 -Printer -Monitor = 200 and if you buy 2 of them you qualify for free shipping on them both. Or you could buy one and pay $99 shipping. But Im sure if it were a decent buy for one at $200 then paying an additional $101 beyond the shipping would warrant a 2nd system. Kind of a weird situation. Buy One get one Half off sort of. But then again Id have 3 Low End systems in my house with no router.LOL Kinda stuck in between I guess. I want a more gaming-able system but I really dont wanna spend top dollar. Kinda resigned to waiting for the AMDTECH tour to hit, while saving my pennies to make a system I guess.

does this amd system need any special drivers for the mobo?

I've never had an amd system, and when i get a new pc, i usually totally wipe the hard drive and fresh install windows xp pro to remove all the crap bloatware.

are there drivers for the sound, graphics, ethernet card, usb and firewire, and mobo?

link626 said: when i get a new pc, i usually totally wipe the hard drive and fresh install windows xp pro to remove all the crap bloatware. This system has system restore capability, not an install disk, so your approach is a NoGo here, unless you have a seperate WinXP license

I'm quite happy $293 after taxes and rebates (6% tax, rebates including 5% credit card and 2% Ebates). Dual layer DVD burner, firewire, AGP. Not bad at all

Reasonably fast even with only 256MB of RAM. (I've added a FAR Maddog AGP card). Not even too much crap to uninstall.
