SOSTrooper said:mizliz said:I'm not at all well-versed in technology, so I'm curious: if I get DSL, and we have 2 desktops in our home, and we both want to use it, what else do we need to buy? Also, is it just a single $14.95 charge if there are 2 computers using the DSL...or is there an extra cost, like for a 2nd Tivo? Any help on what to buy (and of course where to get the best deal) would be appreciated!

You'll need a router to share the DSL connection between 2 or more computers. Both computers can be online at the same time using one account through the router, and there's no extra charge for having a second computer on the internet. Just search on here for 'router' to get some good deals.

Thanks, SOSTrooper! I'll look for a router deal now...

nomansland said:mtayal said:Dudes, this is great... I went to bestbuy store and ordered the "SBC/yahoo DSL - Express Package - Modem Take-Out Kit". I got forms for 5 MIR...

1. $20 Image Lab card (don't know what it is for) offer # 58390 5/29/05 to 7/16/05 Postmark 9/16/05
2. $75 BB GC offer # 59201 7/3/05 to 7/30/05 Postmark 9/30/05
3. $15 Seimens MIR offer # 59445 7/3/05 to 7/30/05 Postmark 9/30/05
4. $75 SBC Yahoo MIR offer # 59446 7/3/05 to 7/30/05 Postmark 9/30/05
5. $75 Seimens modem MIR offer # 59446 7/3/05 to 7/30/05 Postmark 9/30/05

All the BB stores are out of modems in bay area, CA. But some stores have them at about 20 miles away. I also went 15 miles and took the last Seimens SS5100 modem for $89.99 from them. Thanks OP for the post...

Item 4 and 5 are the same promotion. I guess that's why I only got 4 rebate form instead of 5.
Item 4 and 5 have same promotion number but have different SKU #. They go to the same address but is paid by different companies. So I don't think there should be any issue. BB printed out these rebate forms and all of the dates are valid. If the forms are not printed out for you at some other state BB, then it may not be valid for you, but I am pretty sure it must be valid in my case. What is your opinion on this nomansland???

I have updated "quick summary" for "out of door" cost question which a lot of guys are asking and put that in bold so that one can't miss it... One must always read "quick summary" before asking questions...

bummer; SBC is not available in new orleans. we're still paying jacked up prices to cox and bellsouth. thanks for the great deal though.

Anybody have a guess as to what this service will cost after the first year?

I only got 4 rebate forms. I believe they removed either item 4 or item 5 from the system. Or maybe I was just out of luck.

Well I wish I got in on it. It looks like the modem is sold out everywhere. Could I still get in on this deal and come up with my own modem?

How many days is it taking you guy to get everything and get it up and running after you placed your order at BB. I know the estimated time according to BB is 10 business days.

For the person who asked about the price after the promo:

I pay the regular price for SBC Yahoo DSL. I haven't worried about the new promos and deals, because my employer reimburses me for the complete cost. My bill, including all taxes and fees, is $30.40 per month, so I would assume that the maximum would be that amount.

alert mods

Ugh stupid best buy servers don't work properly for ordering DSL. I am moving to a location that can receive SBC DSL (confirmed by SBC) and have to use the special order option at BB. When submit is hit, I get an error at every BB store I've been to. Can this be ordered online somehow to take advantage of the rebates?

You may be having PRO service. One can always re-rate it to current promotion rate. Otherwise switch to cable for few months with their promotion deal and then switch back when you get dsl deal. Why do one need to think about charges after one year anyway???

I recently signed up for the $14.95 price and the paperwork I received stated that the price after 1 year will be $49.95/month. I plan to cancel after 1 year if they don't continue the price.

Wasn't this date supposed to be given by SBC? Did the SBC really contact you within 48 hours of after signing up? What BB has told you should be "should be"

I just went to the local BB and asked for this deal. The guy "seemed" to know what I was talking about, but they were out of the modem. So, he went online and placed the order for me. He went thru everything really fast, kept assuring me that he was getting the proper deal, that the modem would be delivered to me, that all the rebates would print. (He was checking off boxes like "I have read and agree to the terms" without even telling me what he was doing, which pissed me off. I'm kicking myself for not just walking out.) But I thought it was all resolved when he went to the register, rang up the sale (for $0, saying the modem would be charged to my visa when they shipped it), and several rebate forms printed, including the $75 gift card and $20 Image Lab one.

When I got home I was looking over everything carefully, and it didn't print any $15 rebate on the modem, only one for $75. Also, it doesn't look to me like he even ordered a modem...it's not mentioned anywhere on my receipt. SBC has already emailed me to confirm that they have my order for service.

The BB.com site is a joke! I went to HighSpeedInternetCustomerCare@BestBuy.com as my receipt says to do if any questions. It redirected me to the BB.com home page. I spent about 20 minutes looking for anything to do with High Speed Internet or Customer Care. Finally got redirected to the GetConnected site, put in my phone & addy, and SBC doesn't even come up as available.

I don't know what the hell is going on but I do know it's going to be a pain in the butt to straighten this mess out. My own fault for not being more assertive with the BB guy. He acted like he knew exactly what he was doing, but apparently not.

When I went to my first BB, the guy just told me the same, that he will order modem and will ship to my home. I said I don't want to do that and just tell me where it is available in nearby BB stores. The BB guy where I purchased modem told me that SBC will be able to process dsl order in about a week and gave me a firm date during order. SBC is supposed to contact you within 48 Hrs if they have any difficulty in processing the order.
