I'm not sure about hapcollins, but i've been with T-Mobile since 2001 and have been out of contract for over a year; have been on the $39.99 plan. I was given the RAZR for $75.
You can pretty easily determine how much you will be offered by going to the T-Mobile upgrade section on their website, then subtract $100 or so.
From my FAQ above: You can see the regular upgrade price online without calling. Just go to T-Mobile.com, log in (bottom right), click on Phones and Accessories at the top, then click Upgrade ("A New Phone Every 12!"). This will show you the non-discounted upgrade price for your account, which is based on how long you've been with T-Mobile, your monthly plan amount, how far along in your contract you are (or are out of contract), payment history, etc. Expect to use this price as a starting point, but you should be able to go down at least $100 from there.
I've been with tmobile about a year and a half. Once I got transferred to the retentions department my initial offer was $134 ($138? I can't remember). After a bit of haggling she offered to include the sixth month free of service. After wasting ten minutes talking to the friendly csr, I asked to be transferred to her supervisor. A few minutes later she comes back and says she can offer me the phone for $67 but not with the sixth month free. I jumped on it.
It sounded like the first price she gave me was a price the system gave her for me. I'm guessing there's a difference in accounts between those who are initally offered $175 and the $138 price. I remember a thread from a long time ago where someone mentioned that tmobile has a rating of some sort for each customer based on credit, payment history, etc. |

Yes, they have a system that uses colors -- Blue customers are the best and get the most discounts, etc. I don't remember all of the colors, and they technically aren't allowed to tell you -- however, if you ask what color you are, and they say "I can't say", then say "Whats your favorite color?" and they will tell you what color you are. Then go check on HowardForums.com, there is a thread somewhere with the color levels.
Good job on getting the price worked down! |

What's the email address did you use?
It wasn't an email actually. I sent a hard copy letter to their Corporate Address. I have an account where I haven't taken a phone upgrade in 2 years, so I think it was due.

I am not going to post the letter verbatim because everyone is going to send it in and my complaint was legitimate. But basically I included the fact that I've never upgraded my phone within 2 years, never missed a payment, referred several friends to T-Mobile and that my "friend" got in on the Cingular deal. I also explained I called and spoke with several reps on the phone who wouldn't budge on the price. I included a print out from Amazon with the letter as well.
This was the address I used:

Nice job. |

I agree about the hot deals, but I don't believe that plagarism falls into that category. If everyone starts sending in the same letter do you REALLY think that it will have the same effect that it had with the original writer? Do you really think that the reader won't notice that they received 1000 of the same letter? Do yourself a favour and write your own letter, if that's what you want to do. You're more likely to get the result that you're hoping for. |

I apologize for not specifying my original intentions. I am very capable of composing my own letter. I simply wanted to see the general idea and tone of the original letter that was so successful. |

Anyone know of one of those asian cell phone stores that do crazy deals in Oakland or SF? I'm on m2m w/ Tmobile for about 6mos now and need to upgrade my 2 phones to the new 700min plan. I'd prefer the out the door stores b/c I don't want to deal w/ rebates with the mom/pops stores. Thanks!!! |

Yep, everyone should be looking for the hot-deal for oneself !!! (I thought the "FW community" is meant for sharing all hot-deals we can find among the FW'ers...but I could be wrong...???)

Dude, you don't owe anyone an apology... Everyone, who is hanging out here on the FW's Hot Deal forum, is looking for the "HOT DEALs" that are sharing from the other FW'ers...
When someone just simply doesn't want to share the info on how to get the deal, just move on & disregard the comment(s)...
No hard feeling...!!!

I just called T-Mobile though my contract will be end in a few months. The guy only offers me $279 for V3 which I refused. He tried to explained to me how it works, yada yada yada. Then he transfered me to a specialist who tried to do something for me. After holding for a while, she told me the best she can do was $137.99. Still I am not satisfied so I didn't take it and I plan to call back some time later until I get $50 or less. Otherwise, I would rather to wait util my contract ends. |

For me, at least: . I can enjoy the phone right now, instead of waiting until contract ends. . I don't have to lose my current number. . I don't have to switch to another company while I am happy with Tmobile's service and price. . I can't find a way to get $600+ for signing up for one year's contract to satisfy the above conditions.
Of course, if I could get a better deal to override the above reasons, I would definetly happy to make that deal. That's why I am here in FW...
Thanks OP for your wonderful post! |
