Needs to fix more than that.

Where do you get the flyer?

That is a good deal. If my memory serves, the lowest price for that was $149 at HF. The 10" was $99 at one point and the 10" non-sliding compound miter saw was $69.

Flyer is sent by signing up at Harborfreight.com .

They just sent a flyer in the mail couple days ago. I haven't had a chance to check it but I think the saw OP is referreing to is below. I guess the price in the flyer is $119.99 and if you have the flyer the in store mgr will honor the flyer price (YMMV?).

This is a Chicago Electric so if you're looking for high end - forget it. If you have the occasional need, lots of people swear by them - for the price. I have some HF specials and they worked great for what I needed them for. For a sliding compound with laser - not a bad price at $119.99.

The Flyer came in the mail, title of the flyer is Hurry! Sale Ends Oct. 17th Save 60% and the flyer number is 9964.

I would check to see if it has an electric brake, if it doesn't that's a safety issue.

No, if it comes with an electric brake then it's a safety issue. You can bet your chopsticks the brake on that saw will not work for very long.

it was $99.99 last week in store and online.

Amazing deal. I don't like the feel of this 12inch SCMS as well as their 10inch SCMS (plus the 12inch blades are more expensive) but getting the greater cut capacity AND the laser guide for only $20 more than I paid for the 10inch is amazing.

Usually the retail store flyers are available online, but I don't see this one there. Maybe they just have not put it up yet. (Unless it came today, I haven't received this flyer in the mail yet either.)

I got this flyer from infront of their store last night when I bought some pruning sheers.

This saw looks like one of their better products, actually, and I may try to pick it up later this week. I'm just as snobby about my Bosch router and Panasonic impact driver as the next guy, but every piece of HF equipment I've tried has been rock solid. We all know they're coming out of the same three Taiwanese factories anyway, right?

Picked one up with a 20% off coupon for a total of $95 + 19.99(2 year service plan) + tax!!

I think this is an awesome saw for the price. I'm just a serious hobbyist and this will come in handy every once in a while. Tried cutting through a 4x4 and the saw had no problems whatsoever...sliced through like butter.

Thanks OP...I was in need of a good priced miter saw.

I found an on-line flyer but it only shows a 10" sliding for $99. I have a 10" compound already. If I'm buying another saw, I want the 12".

Does anyone have the flyer, and can they scan and host?

20% off coupon end Sept 21.

thanks,
Drew

So does it have a brake?

I actually need to cut through a bunch of 4x4 posts for a little project - will the 10" SCMS handle such a job or would I be better served going to a 12"?

... who am I kidding. I'm getting the 12".

If I had not bought the 10" sliding saw earlier I would be all over this 12". Its just as well, the 10" is probably smaller, more portable than the 12". For cutting floor boards it will work fine.

Not Taiwan, China. Their "good" stuff is made in Taiwan. Not all their stuff is rock solid. It's more of a YMMV kind of thing. I've had good luck with most things (OK for home use if it's not something that you use a lot) but I have had a couple of things that were really crappy (a jig saw was particularly bad).

Just got back and picked up one. They didn't have the signage reflecting the sell price, but it is in the system for $119. The 10" is crap compared to the 12". The 12" seems pretty solid.

thanks OP

Just got back from picking one up. There 3 of us getting one - I was the only one with the 20% off coupon. Thank you FW!

Went ahead and got the 2year replacement warranty for 19.95 (1yr 11.95). For the quality It will probably come in handy. Regular warranty is 90 days. 20% off pretty much paid for it.

Thanks OP, been wanting one and for the amount of use I'll have for it I can live the brand.

Any way to get in on this online? I need a 12" miter saw.

The http://www.harborfreightusa.com site seems to be informational only.

The http://www.harborfreight.com site is the place to purchase online. You could call and try to PM, but shipping is going to be a lot.

Harbor Freight == junk

IMHO

Scored one in austin, tx with coupon. They had signage up and a big stack of them toward the back of the store for $119.

Other hot deals I saw: 1/2' hammer driller corded, chicago brand for 26.99, ref 49.99 and a reciprocating saw (electric, chicago) for 19.99, truck bed 1.5" tie downs for 1.99 reg 6.99, and laser level for 7.99

Last catalog I got from has free shipping. Not sure about online PM though.

Relatively (compared to other brands of power tools, etc) speaking I would agree. And even some cost 2-3x as much are junk too. But for the price it works for some people. They do have a lifetime warranty on their hand tools so to each his own I suppose. And a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Well, its $499.00 for Dewault. I think 95.20 is a hot deal. I'm not a contractor, so for my home use, its going to be just fine. No longer will will I have to flip over wood!!!

I must confess, at $119 less 20%, even for cutting firewood it's tempting.

Has anyone been shot down on the $119 price ?

If you look at the ad, it shows the "regular" price of $259.99 and has a "SAVE $60" bubble next to the $119.99 misprint. I was wondering if any HF cashiers would point this out as evidence that the $119 price is a misprint and deny the printed price based on their standard disclaimer of "not responsible for typographical errors... yadah, yadah, yadah".

Anyone been told the price is $199 take it or leave it ?

I've found their tools very serviceable for the money. If I used tools for a living, that would be different. I think they last about as well as Black and Decker and other low end brands. The charger for my 18 volt drill died a few weeks back. Home Deport wanted $70. I went to Harbor Fright and bought a complete 18 volt drill kit which included the charger plus the drill and battery for $18. You just can't beat that for the home user.

Thanks OP! In for 1 @ $95 with 20% coupon. I got the $19.99 2/yr warranty too, as insurance. I said I wouldn't feed the Red Army anymore but my current saw is falling apart (Craftsman) and I always wanted a 12" slider. I don't want to spend $600 for a "name brand" right now - so this will do.

The build quality looks better than I expected, but certainly not as good as Rigid or Makita.

It rang up $119.99.

I bought one of these for $150 and still don't regret it.

Ok, a little. But only because I wanted it for $97. This saw is worth every penny. The only reason this will be too low end is if you already know by inspection what details are sub par.

The truth is, it works _well enough_. If you want a manual that is comprehensible, and you want everything to be absolutely perfect (or made perfect by the manufacturer) out of the box, don't buy HF. If you're willing to be confused a bit and treat every tool like a puzzle, and do the minor adjustments that aren't documented nor consistent, they are awesome for the price.

If you buy it, when you can't figure out how to make the saw raise, look on the right side for a black handle. Pull it out, turn it 90 degrees (cw, ccw, doesnt matter), then let it go. This is a saw-head-holding-down-pin. Shockingly, the manual doesn't really point it out to you. (This took me an hour, 2 beers, and detailed study of the exploded, yet miniature, tool-breakdown-diagram to figure out).

Worked here. Only HF within 225 miles.

Actually they messed up even more.. They calculated 20% off $199.99 and therefore deducted $40 from $119.99 so we got it for $79.99 I kid you not !!!!!

Absolutely no problem. They said it was a printing error but they had to honor it, and gladly accepted the coupon, and subsequently screwed up calculating 20% off and saved us another $16 off which worked VERY well.

I hope there is another 20% off coupon starting next week and I'll go back and get the reciprocating saw for $16 after coupon.

As far as people say their stuff is crap... Well, it depends. Some of it definitely is. Some of it is exactly the same product you get at many other stores. I won't type a lengthy list of good and bad... any typical person who has used tools can identify them easily. You have a right to criticize their stuff, but do it logically with proof, not just because of a snob factor because it "isn't" a high end name.

It's a throw away tool, Use it till it quits and toss it.
I have the same saw($99 on sale)
It does the job but don't get upset if a year down the road it falls apart.
You get what you pay for and considering the price of a Dewalt or other name brand tools it's not a bad deal at all.

picked one up in the store in Flint, no problem. It is well worth $95 if the motor lasts 2 years....

Good find OP!

I picked one up at the Laurel, MD store. When I checked out, there was another customer asking about this item. He noticed my box on the counter and then looked and me and said "fatwallet"?

I had a chance to take mine out of the box and try it out tonight. I am very pleased! The quality seems better than normal HF stuff. Make sure you take some time to calibrate and align your fence and bevel. Also check the laser for straightness. My bevel was off and I had to loosen the two small nuts that are on each side of the bevel lock to allow my saw come into zero. Once I had that set and tightened, I loosened the plastic indicator and set that to zero. The laser was right on. The fence was right on too. I mounted the saw to my Home Depot miter saw utility vehicle (which I got on another incredible FW deal!). Fits perfect and has the same color as Rigid.

Great deal!

Depending on any sort of brake is a hazard. THere's nothing unsafe with observing and acting accordingly. You have to do that with a brake anyway...
