It doesn't seem like you have to turn/mail them in. Just show them to the service center (information booth??). And you get your GC instantly.

Yeah, that's awesome. they had something like this 2 years ago, expect it's like this game where they put you inside this machine and you get to grab money out.
Buy $200 of goods. Get receipts Go to mall office Get gift card Return $200 of goods.
Repeat as many times as they will let you.
The terms and conditions do not state one per person, nor does it state anything about returned goods.

Is there an annual fee to get the Discovery card?

That Staples-Discover was a total failure for me.I was not given a cent for my 1000's of dollars spent at Staples because of the use of coupons and pricematches(PM's are treated as returns).
they had this promo last year also and while it says valid until 1-06 the malls have a finite # of certs to give out and at least the 3 that I went to all ran out b4 1-06 so get your shopping in early

Any idea how many gift cards you can get? Is it for every $200?
My mall stamped my receipt and then just handed over the gift card. Doesn't look like they are tracking it too heavily. I may visit my local mall again today.

Are there any conditions on what types of purchases must be made? I was wondering if you could buy gift cards from the retail stores and use as part or all of the $200 purchase? I couldn't find anything in fine print that excludes this? Anyone try this?

do they check to make sure that the purchase was made with a discover card?
They did check the receipt to be sure it was made w/ Discover. They also told me it is for each $200 you spend. So you walk up with $400 in discover reciepts (doesn't matter what you purchase i.e. merchandise or gift cards) and you can get two $20 discover gift cards.

Are these like fixed-balance Discover credit cards, or are they gift cards to be used in the respective malls?

I bought $200 Mall Gift card and get $20 Discover GC right away. Bad thing is the mall I went to charged $1.50 for each GIft Card. That is total $6.00 for 4 $50 GCs.

Anyone know how this would work with a mall that has resturants and such? How about the food court and kiosks?
Gee, just imagine: After throwing away 8.25% in California Sales Tax I'd actually net the princely sum of $3.50 for shelling out $200! A hot deal? In California, not.

Buy gift cards for individual stores that you visit inside the mall. They generally do not have a fee for purchase. On the bright side, you still netted 7% on purchasing the gift cards plus the 1% rebate from Discover. Not too shabby.
I haven't tried to return a purchase but I would think if you requested gift slips when making purchase (at department stores, anyway), there would be no problem -- that way you wouldn't have to bother with the "marked" receipt should you need to make any returns.
