Agree to a point, but while in PA, I was able to snag a 1.75L bottle of Johnnie Walker Black for about $15 cheaper than Virginia.

Back on topic, again in Virginia, the gift sets seem to be the same price as the regular bottles. So if there's something you're buying anyway, might as well get a free gift!

Thanks OP!

I recently picked up 2 gift sets. The first one was a .750 ML bottle of grey goose packaged with a nice martini glass. The neck and top of the glass are frosted and the base is blue. I also picked up a a .375 ML bottle of DiSarano(sp)Amaretto packaged with a squarish coffee mug. The Grey Goose was 26.99 and the amaretto was 11.99. Both in NJ

Bear with me, I'm new to this, but I think here's the link to the NC ABC State site. You can search for what you want, if it says [GLS] there's a glass(s) and they have a picture if you click on the camera to the left of the item. Also they're all priced. Don't know about exact stock so I guess YMMV?

We have to buy all of our alcohol at State stores or Beer distributors. Pennsylvania is almost as bad as Utah!

Secondly, all of our alcohol is ridiculously over priced!!

Thanks for the heads up on the PA State Store gift sets...I'll have to keep an eye out for the Jaegermeister sets....Love me some good ole 'deer blood'.

So buy it out of state and have it shipped. Usually it cost 2 or 3 bucks a bottle (by the case) and you pay no tax.

Anyone see a Level gift set? I was at the local liquor store and they didn't have any and won't be getting any this year. Last year they sold the gift set AFTER the holidays. Also the next city over gets first dibs...

If I had a camera phone I would take pictures of all the different gift sets that the one place had. They had a dedicated section!

<--- Loves Level

EDIT: Think we might be able to start adding picture for each of the gift sets?

Online retailers will not ship to PA...it sucks!

My only saving grace is that I'm 45 minutes from the Maryland border.

I have'nt been able to find good wine. I like port wine and little sweet. Any recommendations?

Not a good advice to everyone, but for those of you travelling to the carribean islands, check out the duty free section at the airport. I went to Puerto Rico, and the stores were selling JW Blue for $120, JW Gold for $39, and JW Black for $20. Others were cheap too, but not sure about the exact prices. I picked up 2 blue and 1 gold. Can beat these prices.

You drive to MD for your liquor? Yeah, I guess we're not as bad as PA. I'm reading this thread and getting angry at the people who can buy liquor in Rite Aid! I hate MD... but I'd hate PA even more.

They had one at the first store I looked at, but it didn't seem to be a very good set. IIRC, it was 2 cheap martini glasses, one on either side of the bottle.

Great thread OP!

Oregon has state controlled liquor stores also. The only benefit is that they can stock some pretty exotic stuff since the state pays for all of the liquor. All the store owner does is run it.

Anyway, if people see any single malt scotch sampler gift sets, please post. I love'm!

Shelbycobra said:I picked up the Ciroc set a couple of weeks ago. The glasses are very cool (there is an order form to send away for more inside) and I was happy with not only the delicious vodka, but also the price.

I picked up this packaed a week ago. Be careful with the glasses. I broke both of them when tap together while I was hand washing them. The glass is paper thin

The crown royal glasses are every bit as good as the whiskey!

Sounds like the same one they offered last year...

If crystal clear is your preference (donations can certainly be given separately), BB&B is selling the pair for $19.99 and there are usually $5 off $15 or 20% off coupons floating around. Many wine drinkers do not use colored glassware (although I understand the purpose of the pink re Breast Cancer).
