. . NEW!!!!! ----->>:D :D BEST LIST I'VE FOUND - WITH PICTURES OF GIFTS!!! :D :D <<------- . . . Every year, for the last couple years, I have tried to get a comprehensive thread going on all the "gift sets" to look out for in stores while purchasing alcohol during the holiday.
Every year it starts out slowly, but ends up being pretty comprehensive by the end. Last Year's Thread
This year is just starting out, so we need FatWalleter's help!
Go HERE and select "SPIRIT - GIFT SELECTIONS" to get a listing of most of the gift packs which will be available this year.
Unfortunately, it's just a list, so we need FW'ers to report what they see, and what they think is a good value for a giftset!
I've looked, and so far I've only found 1 item on shelves which seems to be more than a $.25 throw-in.
The one I've found so far is the "Ciroc Vodka - 2 martini glass gift set" which was selling in Phoenix for $18. The martini glasses look to be quality made, and are an interesting and artful design that won't look out of place on a home bar in a year.
Let the rest of FatWallet know what other gift packs to look for, because most of the good gift sets will be long-gone by Thanksgiving!!
On 11/12/05 I got a Disaronno boxed set for $19.99 that came with two pretty nice glasses.
Good deal because it doesn't cost more than the normal price for a bottle.

Thats the beauty of these deals. Generally these gift sets are the same price as a single bottle, and when on sale, they're even cheaper. I LOVE booze gift sets.
I picked up the Ciroc set a couple of weeks ago. The glasses are very cool (there is an order form to send away for more inside) and I was happy with not only the delicious vodka, but also the price.
I saw the ad for more glasses on the outside. Is there an option to send away for a couple more for free, or is there a charge?

There is a pimp tight fifth of Jager that comes in a silver holiday tin instead of the regular green bottle at Rite Aid for 20.60 Not really a "set" but I like it.
I saw the ad for more glasses on the outside. Is there an option to send away for a couple more for free, or is there a charge? To get the additional glasses, you need to send them $8 for each set of 2. It may seem a little steep, but I really like them and figure it would be nice to have a set of 4 so it's worth it to me.
I get a set of 4 by just buying 2 gift sets...I've got 4 Jack Daniels and 4 Crown Royal glasses from last year. Us college kids got to have something to drink out of besides plastic cups.

a bottle of kahlua (750 ml) with 5 - 50 ml bottles of different stolis in the gift box.
I'm looking for wine gift sets ... none here in PA yet, but I'm gonna check out a couple other stores tomorrow.
This is what I added to the summary -- just in case someone decides to erase it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bailey's Holiday Gift Pack or Holiday Tin You can see them here
Chambord w/ 2 glasses
Romano Sambuca w/ 2 glasses
Kahlua w/ 4 mini bottles of 4 different flavored Stolichnaya vodka (I bought this one) $18.99 -- the reg. bottle of Kahlua was $18.99 and the 4 mini set of Stolichnay vodka was $4.99 ... so I say this is a good deal.
Jagermeister w/ 2 glasses $18.99
Jim Beam w/ flask-cigar holder
Tequila Rose w/ 2 glasses
Villa Massa Limoncella w/ 2 glasses
Windsor Canadian w/ 1 glass on top of bottle
Bacardi w/ 1 glass on top of bottle looked like a football design
Keep your eyes open for PINK ... Riedel "o" Chardonnay/Viognier tumblers will be available in sets of 2 in delicate pink. 15% of the purchase going to Living Beyond Breast Cancer.
Others shown in the PA wine and spirits catalog, but I did NOT see them: Chambord 50ml ornament Hpnotiq w/ handblown aqua blue martini glass Finlandia in a silver cylindrical tin Black Velvet Reserve in a red velvet bag

What stores are you finding the gift sets at? The places I've checked out haven't had anything good.
In Columbia MO I picked up a bottle of Kahlua w/some weird looking martini-type glasses that are for white russians apparently. There's a form that you can send off for a FREE shaker inside. But the glasses aren't worth much.
And my personal favorite, there are some nice little tumbler-style glasses that came w/my bottle of Bailey's. Great for hot chocolate on a cold winter night!
wow, they have some rediculous prices on their everyday spirits...

This thread could really be called "DosSpider is an alcoholic." Sets to watch out for:
Frangelico 750ml offers a bottle with 2 handblown glasses that look really pimp Belvedere offers a 1l bottle with a ice dish and 6 shots glasses Jack Daniels offers a 1l bottle with 2 squared rocks glasses Gentleman Jack offers a 1l bottle with 2 rounded rocks glasses with cut glass bottom
That's what I know about coming up so far. The guy up the street sell those at the same price as the bottle would regularly sell for...but a lot of liquor stores around Atlanta sell them for more due to the 'free' glasses. I also believe there's a bailey's irish cream rebate. not sure about that though.

costco generally has some good stuff, if you are a member and the prices are in line with what the alcohol would cost a costco without the extras
Word to the wise - in Illinois and other states that prohibit drinking "clubs" (common in blue law states) - Costco & Sams cannot require membership to purchase alcohol or charge a surcharge. If you look around their liquor departments, they are required by law to post that policy (in Illinois, anyway).
A couple of years ago we bought several holiday liquor gift sets after Christmas at either Sav-On or Rite-Aid for 75% off. I don't remember anything from January - June of that year.
If anybody spots a Grand Marnier set in SoCal, please share. I'll do some recon tomorrow and see what else is out there in the San Diego area.

Now why in the world would you send them $8 for another 2 glasses? This is FW, think of it as $8 off a second bottle!
If it were a MIR, it would look like:
18 vodka - 8 glasses MIR ----------------- $10 AR

I saw Patron Silver with 4 shot glasses I believe
Soco with 4 shot glasses Jager with 2 shot glasses And a handful of others...
I these usually deals? I like a lot of the "glassware" but not sure how much they overcharge for the "package."
In several of the past years I have bought a Carolans Irish Cream Liquor gift set, with a 750ml bottle of the liquor and a pair of nice little glasses. I think the price was in the $10-12 range. I haven't seen the box set yet this season but I haven't been looking.
For those who like Bailey's, you ought to try Carolans - Wine Enthusiast rates them both as outstanding (I don't think any other Irish cream liquors are as highly rated) and stated that Carolans is actually creamier. According to a little mini-flier I've seen on Carolans bottles, in a supposedly blind taste test, 55% of the testers liked Carolans better than Bailey's and I prefer it over its much better known competitor, as it is smoother and has a bit more caramel flavor. Carolans is about 40% cheaper than Bailey's, too. If any of you have tried other Irish cream liquors, you may have had a bad experience. I've tried a few other of the cheaper brands and it was like drinking a mixture of Carnation evaporated milk and cough syrup - horrible. Carolans is 180 degrees the opposite.

I love these gift sets. They are usually the same price as a single bottle. Most of them come with two glasses, but I've seen some that only come with one glass. That's lame or for hardcore drinkers that don't like to share?
I still use the glasses that came with Baileys from a couple years back, they are well made and pretty. I think I bought mine post season and paid $8 for the set which is even cheaper than just the bottle.
dayum had to make a bloody mary after this thread!

I believe you can get the shaker for free via the Kahlua website without purchase.

For the state of Illinois only, I found "Tis the Season" refund form yesterday. $10.00 off three, $25.00 off 6, or $60 off 12 bottles of CC, Clou Du Bois, Munn, Napa, Harvey's Bristol Cream, Cockburn's, Stolichnaya, Beefeater, Kahlua, Sauza, Malibu, Buena Vista, Porto, 750 or larger, and two must be spirits (four spirits on 12). Good until Jan 30.
BJ's in New Jersey. Maple Shade has a PATRON 3 bottle gift set 375ml bottles for $41. They must of got a good deal on it or its mispriced.

We have to buy all of our alcohol at State stores or Beer distributors. Pennsylvania is almost as bad as Utah!
Secondly, all of our alcohol is ridiculously over priced!!
Thanks for the heads up on the PA State Store gift sets...I'll have to keep an eye out for the Jaegermeister sets....Love me some good ole 'deer blood'.

It's absinthe without the stuff that makes absinthe absinthe. They take the tujone out (which makes it legal to make in the US), hence the name "ABSENTe".
But this one does come with woodworm extract to add back in. I guess this is a loophole to get around it being illegal.
