I don't have any experience with this jacket, but 800 fill is pretty kickin' stuff for compressibility. EMS is also a pretty solid company.

Men's

Women's

Kenny McCormack sold separately.

Free shipping also! This should keep you toasty warm!

anybody have this or have heard about EMS?

EMS stands for eastern mountain sports..they are a BM up in New England and probably nationwide.

think "REI" for west-coasters.

anyone familiar with ems's return policy if it doensn't fit?

Fine, since you think it is UGLY, show me a solid performing 800-fill jacket that is not ugly.

the men's black one looks good. my only gripe is that these don't cover the groin area.

I do not think that is so bad thou.

Mountain Hardwear's Phantom. Of course, that jacket is twice this price.

EMS has been around here (DC area) forever. Generally, their EMS-labeled stuff is good quality and I'd say maybe a little better than REI's and Bauer's. Don't think that I've ever been disappointed with anything that I've bought from them. Only knock against them would be that regular prices are on the high side, but they have good sales as things move off-season. I've never bought online, but B&M are very easy to deal with. Good place and good stuff in my experience.

Actually, EMS is more on the east coast while REI seems to be more prevalent on the west coast. I have heard of both of them but have only been in EMS as we have those in NYC.

EMS is a pretty safe bet. I'm a rock-climbing instructor and guide, and would feel comfortable with just about anything badged EMS. Strongly considering purchasing this jacket even though I don't really need one.

wow, this is great... I was pretty close to buying this for $200 at one of their B&M stores over the BF weekend..

I would have to agree since I own one myself. However, the EMS jacket is nothing out of the ordinary as far as looks go. I have definately seen down jackets that look worse. As far as I'm concerned, the EMS looks like your basic down jacket design, but with 800-fill.
