You CAN activate over the internet. It's just that the great deals (3 months free or 77/year) can only be done over the phone.
I'll dial a few numbers to get something free or ~ 50% off.

I was driving with a friend cross country, and was all pepped on the idea of satellite radio, and I found as little interesting programming on XM as I did on the normal radio. Middling and uninspired, but with no commercials. Granted, I don't give a hoot about team sports, nor Howard Stern...
And you guys are supposed to be thrifty and saavy. Is there something I'm missing? Everyone thinks this way until they actually get it. Although I do agree 12 dollars a month is a little pricey. 77 a year is workable. Plan on spending a lot of time driving for you to get your moneys worth.

I just got off the phone with XM and was able to get the $77/yr deal. I was switching receivers and was just renewing. Called 4x before I got someone who knew what I was talking about. I didn't need the code only mentioned the deal and no problem. Also mentioned the 3 free months and got that too! Thanks FW! |

Don't forget the home kit for using the receiver in the house, office, etc. along with the XM feed via the internet.

I called XM to activate my Audiovox XCS9, and was able to use the code OEM001NNA (3 months free & free activation), but could not get the $77/year promo. |

Even at $12 a month its a lot cheaper and less time consuming than "LEGALLY" filling your MP3 player with music

Apples and oranges though. With MP3 you listen to the songs you want (and in better sound quality) rather than what is randomly broadcast. |

USUALLY, if you have cancelled service, they'll call you up and offer a good deal.
but, as always, YMMV |

I can't dispute the sound quality. Thats the only thing i'm somewhat disappointed about. XM are coming out with an HD version soon but it will require the latest HD receivers. Just hope they dont decide to charge more for the HD service. I also read somewhere that the new receivers will be MP3 players as well. |

I also just did this. I was told the promotion code was active until Feb 2007, so have fun y'all.

The XM radio I got is Audiovox XCS9 Combo Pack from CC. The salesman in store told em to get a home kit which is about $30. I hope I can use it without buying the home kit. Is it possible?
I heard that this unit is powered only by car plug. Is there any converter with cheaper price than $30 that can be used on this unit?
Thanks a lot!

Slightly OT: Delphi just send me a replacement battery for my MyFi. There's a recall on the original battery that came with the device. Pretty good service if you ask me. Didnt even know about this. Look out for it in the mail. Apparently its being sent to active XM MyFi's. |

There is a home kit for the Audiovox XCS9. It goes cost around $30. BTW, this is a great unit! I have one as well. |

Yes, it will work without the home kit. The car cradle has a flat base so it will sit on a desk, table, etc. You can use the car antenna (though in my experience, the home antenna works better) and a power supply like this one at link. You might also try rat shack for an equivalent.
