just an fyi, but w hotels do not use the heavenly bed. its a westin specific brand. that said, it is entirely possible that w uses the identical mattress. for an answer to thta you shoudl check over at flyertalk.

It's a matter of opinion. I've tried the Temper Pedic beds and do not like them at all. I own a Select Comfort and it's the least comfortable bed I've ever slept on (just don't get all the rave reviews, the thing is nothing more than a couple of Kmart beach rafts with a plastic frame and foam padding). My wife & I slept on the Heavenly bed at the Westin in NY and in our opinion it was leaps above the other two or any other bed we had ever slept on. If this deal is the same Westin bedding then this is very tempting as we are ready to be rid of the horrible Select Comfort.

Has anyone verified it is the same as the Westin?

UPDATE - WHotels site does link to Starwood Hotels Site, and Westin is a Starwood Hotel, so maybe....Actually I think the Westin Heavenly Bed is specifically the pillowtop King.

That said, the King pillowtop matress set list for 1650 on Whotels site and with 20% discount it is 1320 with free shipping. The equivalent King set on Westin site list for only 1450, but no 20% off and it says to call for shipping costs. So with higher list price I'd call this a good deal but not a great one.

I went ahead and ordered the Queen pillowtop version for $860 - Great deal! I did some research online and apparently the W bed is preferred by all the people that reviewed both the W and the Westin - so if there is a difference it is the W one that is better, if not, you're getting the heavenly bed cheaper from the W store Thank YOU OP!

I have no idea how to assess value in bedding. Is this an OBJECTIVELY good deal? How much should a good queen size mattress cost?

I got my bed from Costco about 10 years ago for about $300. It is a Sealey, I believe. I haven't been sleeping well lately and would like to blame my mattress.

the item above the mattress is the "set" - with boxspring. it's only $100 more for the queen ($975 v. $875 for mattress only).

For that price minus 20%, absolutely worth it!

What Costco sells is lower end - Sealy makes great premium mattresses also but the one they sell through Costco is a more basic model (but not junk by any means).

Yes, the mattresses are available at Nordstroms. At least the "Heavenly Bed" is. There still seems to be some debate over the difference between the W and the Westin versions. I called the one at Tysons Corner in Virginia to make sure. Haven't had a chance to go down there yet but once we do hopefully it will give my wife peace of mind to make the choice.

I have slept on these before and they are comfortable. I just remember how painful it was last time we bought a bed and how difficult it was to try and make comparisions between stores. The whole thing felt like a conspiracy to keep margins high. Normally I research things extensively before making large purchase decisions. But, from my point of view knowing that I have personally slept on this many nights before at hotels and the research for comfort and durability the hotel has done for me and finally the fact I don't have to deal with the obnoxious bed buying ordeal is more than enough to make me feel comfortable.
