except for pillow tops, the heavenly mattress is 13" high and the W mattress is 12.5" high. whoDean said:daveland said:whoDean said:Thanks OP, I bought the King pillowtop after trying it out at the local Westin
Erm, but the sale is on the W Bed and the Westin has the Heavenly Bed. Or are you just figuring it's close enough?
According Cust. Svc at the phone # listed on the W site, the "plush" is the same bed used in W hotels and the "pillowtop" is used at Westin hotels (the pillowtop IS THE HEAVENLY BED), (other posts in this thread confirm). |

Darn, so picky... I bought a few hours ago and basically, I reason it like this....
1. For a Queen Plush Top, $700 SHIPPED and TAX FREE can't be beat, even with haggling at your local stores... or Costco or WalMart.
2. The Pillowtop wasn't an option for me cause it isn't removable to "fluff and clean". I didn't buy the toppers either because it can be bought for less (same quality) or for slightly more, get 100% Down instead of the prickly feathers so you save by not buying a topper for the topper.. (stoopid to begin with).
3. Even if this isn't the Heavenly bed, read reviews, the W Hotel bed beat the Westin Heavenly Bed. But that's not even the point either... The W hotel bed in either form is a GREAT BED for a CHEAP PRICE with FREE SHIPPING. If you needed a bed, this was the way to go, if you didn't need one, you need to get some sleep.
4. Box set wasn't worth it because the extra $$$ can be put towards a nice platform bed. Unless you like being 4 feet off the ground when you get up in the morning.
5. This is a new year... and me posting this @ 3AM 1/1/2006 proves I need a better bed... Even my wife is sleeping on the couch behind me... |

got in on this too, the delivered price plus tax free is a slam dunk. Went into a local "bed mart" and asked for a price on three mattresses, salesman/punk was too busy call us with a price, obviously couldn't be taken away from his game of solitaire to try and make a sale.
We've slept on beds at both the W and Westin, can't remember one being better than another, but both were great as I recall. |

One more note.
If you live in an old house, the way we do - you need a split boxspring to go up old shallow stairways.
They had a split queen sized boxspring for only a $100 more than the discounted set price.
I think they are even honoring the 20% off for the Queen Sized Split Box Spring. We'll find out tomorrrow when the regular staff comes back to work.

I received a phone message today that they are checking local availability and will call back with a delivery time. Usually three days in my area (DC), but didn't promise it until they could check. |

I got the same call today, for NYC area, but I missed the call. The 800 number they left for callback was for sleepys, with a W hotel customer service extension..
Hope I dont get a bait and switch.. I ordered a quilt top mattress, does anyone know what brand/model name I should be expecting? I assume its W hotel branded like in the picture linked below..

Not to TC, but I just stayed at the Westin at Detroit Metro Airport over new years break and heard a lot of "Wow, really your going to the Westin, I hear those beds are awesome". Well I must say I was not impressed. We had the king size heavenly bed and it was really nothing special.
BTW, I was also not impressed with their $15 hamburger, or $30 meatless spaghetti
Guess I wont be going back to the Westin. |

It says on the W site "Made exclusively for W Hotels by Simmons"; mine was a Simmons Beautyrest Starwood 425 Plush according to the tag.
Still haven't received the featherbed or pillows I ordered from the W Store yet, web site says all down products will be shipped 1/6. It feels good as-is (without the featherbed thing) but I can pretty much sleep on anything so I'm not one to judge a mattress. |

keats76 said:If you think the Heavenly beds are nice you really should check out the Foam Mattress post. You can build a queen size Temper Pedic type mattress for well under $500 and it will beat the heavenly bed hands down. I've owned a select comfort, stayed at westins for many years now (frequent buisness traveller) and now I own a memory foam mattress that I built myself.
All are nice, but the memory foam is the best. GL. You gotta be kidding... I stayed at a high end Starwood hotel-it was Sheraton branded but part of the Luxury Collection at Starwood. (The Hotel Pulitzer in Amsterdam-the hotel that they stay in in Ocean's 12)
At any rate, I don't know if the beds are the same/similar but the bed there was UNBELIEVABLE. I don't think the regular Sheraton hotels get beds are nearly as nice (the Four Points I once stayed at definitely didn't although I know Fourt Points just upgraded all their beds).
Point is, if the W or Westin beds are anything close to what the Luxury Collection beds are, then memory foam can't compare. And I built a memory foam mattress myself too! It's not bad, but it's not unbelievably awesome like the bed I had.
Bad thing about having an uber unbelievable bed is just how much time you spend sleeping in it lol.
BTW even though WalMart has a similar pillow top one for a lot cheaper in a set, the PLUSH top set is actually more money at WalMart...W is throwing a huge markup on the pillowtop SET.
But if you don't get the set it's not that bad. You don't really need the boxspring though, do you?
It's really confusing because the difference between the Plush Set and Plush Mattress only is $100-meaning the box spring is $100 extra. The Pillowtop Set is $375 more than the Pillowtop Mattress only...which makes no sense at all-it should be the exact same box spring. Wtf? |

This looks like a pretty decent deal.
I have to agree with others about the Memory Foam beds. Memory foam doesn't breath, so it can get uncomfortably hot. It breaks down over time to the point where it is virtually worthless.
What everyone here has missed though is that Latex foam mattresses are what you want for "ultimate" comfort. These types of mattresses last 20-30 years. Don't break down and collapse. Breathe so they don't get hot like memory foam. Are naturally anti-microbial. Never have to be turned.
They come in different densities so you can pretty much taylor the sleep surface however you want.
I've never slept in anything superor to Latex. They are expensive, but $2000 will buy you a great one, and it will last 2-3 times longer than a conventional mattress. If your a person of size, this is particularly beneficial because Latex stands up to weight better than any other sleeping surface. I'm a big guy and I was constantly replacing beds every 2-3 years, I've been on my Latex for 2 years now and you can't tell. The surface is as perfect as the day I set it up.
Try before you buy. Sleeping comfort is too important to just "settle". |
