I received mine Zen Vision M yesterday from crushfield.com, it has been a long waitted, finally very excited. But it didn't last long, my Zen Vision M is defective!! After I turned the switch to "on", the screen was blank, only the four conner buttons were lighted up with blue lights. Then I can't even reboot or turn it off. Those four button light stay "on" all time. I contacted creative support line, they weren't very helpful, only told me to reload the firmware (downloaded from creative.com), but it was exactly the same version as the one in Zen vision M, anyway, I followed the instrustion and reload the firmware into the player, but towards the ending where the player suppose to reboot itself upon completion, but it still failed, only the four button lights are "on". I tested the screen, to make sure it is not the screen problem by deleted the firmware in the player (By holding RESET on the bottom + Power Switch to "on" for 5 secs), the result is: the screen does work, it shows CREATIVE first, then "ZEN", then "Fireware Problem". But then, even after I reinstalled the firmware, it still doesn't work. Anybody can help? I am so upset... and disappointed... First time getting a brand new device that is defective. Can I even call creative ask for additional discounts and exchange for another brand new one? |

I'd contact Crutchfield to return or exchange it for a new one, I wouldn't bother going through the manufacturer if you just bought something. They move too slow and might possibly send you a refurb. |

Definitely get a new one from Crutchfield.
Bad thing about this player is that Creative has some really inconsisent tech support. I've called them three times and had one knowledgeable, helpful tech support rep and the other two couldn't have been more ignorant if they were winos Creative recruited from the bus terminal that morning. |

I've been playing with this device a bit, and I've seen the same problem you've described. An easy solution is to take a small paper clip or pin and insert it into the reset hole on the device. It will reboot the device, and the problem will be (temporarily) resolved. |

How does this compare to the Archos AV 500. If one could get the 30gb version of the Archos AV 500 for less than $350, which is the better choice?
Thanks. |
