Save the Videos! In basements and rec rooms across this country, a quiet holocaust is steadily unfolding. These deaths will never make the evening news. You'll never hear the screams of the victims. No glitzy superstars will come to the rescue with fundraisers and rubber bracelets and PSAs. But make no mistake: an entire generation of video recordings will soon be entirely wiped out by VHS tape deterioration.
Just imagine losing the precious footage of your daughter's first acne outbreak, or that hilarious trampoline/Pogo Ball mishap you keep meaning to send to AFV, or your treasured recording of the Chicago Bears' shuffle to victory in Super Bowl XX. Imagine all of it gone in a cloud of magnetic dust – it may even have already happened. Must we, as a nation, continue to sit quietly by as if nothing is happening?
There is something you can do today to stop the horrible destruction of video life. The ADAPTEC VideOh! PCI video capture card lets you rescue those invaluable images and store them safely in durable, digital MPEG-2 format. With full-resolution hardware encoding, the VideOh! card will lovingly capture every detail.
Then use the included Sonic MyDVD software to nurse your vids back to health – edit out commercials and mistakes, or compile your own greatest home-movie hits. Burn 'em to DVD and you've done more than just make a movie – you've saved a life.
Future generations deserve to watch your awesome Super Mario speed runs for themselves. Don't make them take your word for it. I don't see a tuner, so looks like it's only use is for video archival (i.e. from vcr)??? Or I guess you could capture from cable box or satellite output.

I respectfully disagree. I like BagofCrap's prompt threads for new woots. And I come here first to check out all the bad things everyone has to say about the new woot when deciding whether or not to make a purchase. Keep up the good work!
this was useful, and basically secured my $45 in my bank account...
(taken from a review on Amazon)... and yes i believe it...
04/01/04 06:20:32 tse23545 Hello from Adaptec, Unfortunately the VideOh products we have only work with the bundled software MyDVD. So the Beyond TV, Pinnacle Studio, roxio Easy CD Creator, Adobe Premiere and Windows Movie Maker will not work with it or they will have problems recognizing the device. But you can capture the video using Sonic MyDVD to MPEG Clips and other editing software should be able to edit the clips. Or try the included WinDVR to capture the clip from the TV signal. Unfortunately there won't be a driver release for the hardware to be compatible with 3rd party video editing software. ---- For this reason, if you ever plan on using your TV Tuner card with anything other than the included software, you'll do better to look elsewhere...
Agreed. It seems bagocrap and I think Dextarali(sp?) both like to post the everynight woot item no matter what. Doesn't matter if it's a good deal or not. It pointless to me anyways since it's faster for me just to go woot.com at 10pm Pacific time since depending on your filters or if you refresh the the hot deals forums, it may not even show up for you until after that time anyways.

ahh, the uneducated posting thoughts on something they know nothing about...
This product appears amazing because it's not merely a capture card, it's a capture card with builtin MPEG-2 hardware.
What's the difference?
Most capture cards are purely software driven, which is the reason I use a minidv camcorder for capture video. Since it's a hardware capturing solution.
Even a radeon all-in-wonder is using software emulation to capture to mpeg2, which can lead to loss of quality, sync and dropped frames.
Paying $40 for a hardware-based mpeg-2 capture card is insanely cheap!
Besides, the software limitations are really not important. I rarely use the same software to capture and edit video, since everything has strengths and weaknesses.
