Sherwood receivers are absolutely TOP-NOTCH! I would reccommend this to anyone looking for a high-end receiver at a great price should jump on this deal. The Sherwood separates are the best you'll find under $2000 apiece, and the receivers are almost as good as them. If I had ANY extra cash I'd sell my onkyo TXNR-900 and get one of these suckers. Great deal OP!

Hey Guys (and gals),

I checked the status of my order last night and this morning and guess what: it's gone. Let me know if any of you who got in under the wire are having the same issue.

Since the deal is already dead, and everyone's order is on order, I think it does not harm if you call and find out what's going on. Is OneCall just cancelling all the orders with $799? At least we gotta have an idea.

I do agree another member who mentioned OneCall may fill the orders with $999 first and leave all the $799 orders behind the train.

I called and, much to my surprise, I was informed that "the computer automatically cancelled it (due to it officially not being in stock), but that they would replace the order at the original price". I have my new order number and also learned they expected their shipment to arrive Monday...phew!!!! It was actually a very pleasant conversation...A GIANT kudos to OneCall.

p.s. SO, it IS a "rule" that you're not supposed to call to talk about the $$$. Good. I was pretty upset last night and was beginning to think I never should have posted. I had made it a point to avoid $$ in my conversations. Glad MOST people are doing the same. Sucks that they caught wind of the error and not everyone could capitalize.

Just talked with Boston Acoustics tech support.

The avr7120 is not made by Sherwood Newcastle but by a common manufacturer.

The firmware updates fot the equivalent Sherwood Newcastle receiver are not compatible with the 7120.

Additionally while the 7120 firmware will be up to date when it leaves Boston Acoustics.

The tech spoke with the powers that be and unfortunately there is no promise for updates to the receivers in the future. They will leave the factory with the most up to date software, however additional updates will not be supported.

I called and they were very pleasant. I will still see if it comes in. Looks pretty sweet. How many are going to end up on fleabay. I know mine is going in right away with my home theater system.

I am skeptical of this as well. Not saying that you're wrong welphd, but Sherwood is an OEM manufacturer for a ton of audio companies, and their components have been going into other companies' high quality audio components for years now. I don't think anyone is an OEM for Sherwood, but I suppose I could be mistaken. Thx for the heads up though, if Boston won't update firmware for this, it's not quite as hot, especially for the lossless audio codec that is coming down the pipe with HD-DTS and HD-DD (or whatever they're going to be called).

I can not confirm independently if or if not Sherwood also makes the AVR 7120.

I questioned the Boston Acoustics tech on this and he would not budge off his statement that the AVR7120 was not made by Sherwood and that the 7120 and the Sherwood receiver were both made by a common source. I posed this multiple times and each time got the same answer.

I tried to get in contact with Sherwood re this but I had no luck. Maybe someone else could research this!!

Audi and Volkswagen are made by the same company. Some people will always use that point as justification to go for a Jetta or Passat. However, people who find they can afford to, tend to buy the Audi...that's why Volkwagon's made the Phaeton, right?

Me? I have a used Saab. ;-D I would have been forced to buy a Jetta, but pined over an Audi. Then this deal came around and now I'm getting me an Audi for the price of a used Jetta.

As for support and updates...I've done just fine for 10 years without a single software update to my Onkyo Integra receiver (with external DD and DTS decoders). At $800...or even $1000...I'm not sweating it...

Other folks can have their suped up, high finned, fast as heck Toyotas, Hondas, and Subaru WRXs...they're still not Audis or BMWs. Myself, I'm PUMPED to get this receiver.

That said...I'd love to know the details of that Sherwood connection from a historical standpoint, though.

7100 no upconversion, 100/channel, 2component inputs
7120 upconversion, 120/channel, 3component inputs

are these the only deficiencies of the 7100?

all i can say is:
NICE

JamesD1343--thanks for the comparison information, but the link you gave only shows me the AVR7100 product information. Am I missing something?

I'm considering getting the AVR7100, but upconversion is important to me (as is downconversion of S-Video to composite which the AVR7120 manual indicates it has). Does anyone have a link to a manual for the AVR7100 or a detailed comparison?

http://www.audioholics.com/ehx/ehx2005/EHXOrlando2005Day12.php indicates that the AVR7100 has upconversion (but I don't know whether to trust a press blurb ), but some other differences the most significant being fewer inputs.

None of electronic stores nearby carry this model.
Is there a place (in Southern CA) that I can audition to this model?

tick tock tick tock!!!

Did everyone see that the AVR7100s are "In Stock"?

it's in stock now for $699, no free shipping though ($45 or so).

I am thinking about cancelling my 7120 order (at the lower price). If anyone wants it, PM me.

Placed the order yesterday for 7100. Got shipping confirmation email today.

I don't need video conversion and 100W per channel is enough for me. Thanks OP for this great deal!
