if you click my link above and look at the full specs you will see the 7100 DOES video upconvert...they call it univision. this was confirmed from boston acoustics sales via email as well. less power, 1 less component input and ability to only draw 1 sub are the main differences.
WOOT! got tracking on mine today |

Hey the question was asked about the Denon AVR3805 ..the AVR3805 is well rated..picked one up at Tweeter for $578.00 off the floor. They had the Yamaha RXV2500 for a great price as well..the reason was the same as the BA receiver.Last years models... Most newer receivers in this price range will have HDMI inputs...this DENON is more than I need but wow it's great.. |

While the 7100 has 5 total video, one is Front Panel, and one is with the 8 channel input, so in effect only three are available. I have a DVD, Cable, ReplayTV, and VCR, so unless I use the front panel input then the 7100 won't cut it from what I can tell. (I also have a turntable!) The 8 channel is used for SACD/DVD-A so I unless that video input is assignable to a digital audio input, it doesn't help. |

How does the AVR7120 compare with the HK AVR7300? Can either of these do bi-amping? |

So is this auction from one of the OneCall deals (I can only imagine it is) but I haven't even gotten a shipment notification for mine. Here is the auction # 5858872740. |

AVR-7120 is now showing in stock. Just chatted live to see if this means the shipments will start going out. My order is "in the wherehouse getting ready to be shipped" (per chat-not order status online)
BTW I got in on the order when it was $799 not $999, so things are looking good unless you are thinking about the additional 8 bills that will be on the credit card this month. |

I just got off the phone with Chad: it "will be shipping tonight"!!!!! He said I'd get an email confirmation when it went out, even though I ended up re-ordering over the phone when my original order was kicked out.
Wooooohhhooooooo! |

Nobody seems to be talking about the 7100? I am trying to compare this to the avr-3805 from denon, which I can get for roughly the same price. One thing that the Denon has that the BA does not have is parametric EQ settings for each channel. THe BA seems to only have bass management...
any opinions?
I am thinking the bA is a great receiver b/c of the massive power supplies, but i dunno. |

I'm guessing that anything you can get for about the same price started out substantially cheaper. I was happy to spend $100 more for the 7100 until OneCall made what turned out to be a price mistake and I jumped on the 7120 for $800. At $700 that the 7100's an absolute steal.
An EQ is probably most useful for: a) adjusting for room dynamics b) adjusting for poor quality of audio components c) adjusting for taste
The BA will do "a". "b" is not an issue as far as the receiver, but may be for your equipment. Only you know about "c", but simple bass and treble would probably be sufficient with quality equipment.
****I take it back! The manual says "Connect the auto speaker microphone to the receiver, it will analyze a series of test tones emitted from speakers and will adjust the size, distance and sound level of each speaker automatically." Doesn't sound like it does anything regarding room dynamics other than the level...no tone adjustment (for especially bright or dead rooms/speakers).

Okay, new guy here and got hooked on this BA AVR7120 deal. I actually ordered one, then cancelled cuz I was torn between it and the excellent Yamaha HTR-5990 for $699. But I waited till tonight ( Mon Jan. 30, 2006) to order. Low and behold the Yamaha was up to $999 same as the Boston Acoustics AVR7120. Well, I called OneCall and the operator indicated that they still might honor the $699 price for the Yamaha. I mean, Best Buy and many other places have it on sale for $999. Okay, I got to talking with "Tom" at OneCall and I was ordering the Yamaha, but also asked a few questions about the Boston. He said the Boston sounds better as they have both at the store and he is also getting a Boston AVR7120. After comparing specs, features, etc, I got resold on the Boston acoustic for $999. * He said as of tonight they are in and I should have mine on Friday! * [ SE Wisconsin ] What sold me was that he compared both and was putting his own money on the Boston plus the remote alone is MUCH more useful than the Yamaha remote. Not to mention the "little" extra remote the BA AVR7120 comes with. Soooo.. thanks for the input everyone . Wish I had dived in when the price was $799!! But even at $999 this is a once in a lifetime chance to go high end and not look back. |

I just got a shipment notification with a fedex tracking #, $847 was a screaming good price for the AVR7120. I jumped early on the deal (probably within the first 30 minutes of it posting). |

Ok - I'm pulling the trigger despite having a great HK receiver. For 799.99 you can't miss. Thanks OP |

Just to put the nail in the coffin...As I was reading the manual last night (I downloaded the pdf), I noticed that you can use the right back surround to power a passive subwoofer with variable crossover. Very nice. I can't WAIT for this thing to get here. |

Wow, thanks OP! I missed this deal till now.
I got a refurbished (Pioneer) Elite VSX-55TXi (orig MSRP $1700) for $599 + shipping about 6 months ago, which looks like it was never used! It came with all the accessories. I sold the Marantz SR8400 (bought it for myself but ended up not liking a few things about it) that I got you know where for a steal and bought the Elite for personal preferences, not that the Elite sounds any better (or worse).
I love the function rename, elegant and substantial looks, Auto Calibration with OSD, phono input and iLink features of the Elite.
This BA AVR7100 is VERY tempting, however.
Any opinions on the VSX-55TXi versus the BA AVR 7100 for $699? I can probably sell the Elite for $700 or so + shipping, so the total cost of "upgrading" after all fees and shipping would be under $100.
Review of VSX-55TXi
