Still want to know if you use the online TurboTax, if it will look for previous years and fill in all the pertinent info like the software does. If not, I'd rather just buy the software. Save a whole lot of typing.

Yes you can import last years if you saved the file in .tax format.
Got this link in an email the other day. Its for filing with H&R Block TaxCut Online, with free E-file. Both the TaxCut Online EZ and Premium are FREE making it a better deal than the BofA link. FREE Federal Return: Prepare and eFile your Federal return for free if you're age 50 or younger with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $50,000 or less. Additional fees apply for state returns and eFiling. or FREE Federal, one State, plus eFiling: Get more FREE when you choose to have your refund deposited to the new H&R Block Refund Visa® Prepaid Card. Get your refund faster, and use the card wherever Visa is accepted.*
There is a EZ version, and a Premium version for all the other stuff, but both say they are free for federal return. The email mentions that there may be a fee for state returns and e-filing if you go this route, but the description for both online services mention: FREE Federal E-file - Once you complete your federal return, you can e-file it at no additional charge. For basic taxes (family/normal work/etc.) I used freetaxusa for 2003 and 2004. Then it was free federal and cheap state. Now it's $9.95/each of state and federal, unless your AGI is <$50K. A decent system, well organized and complete. It took good care of me. http://freetaxusa.com/
My wife owns a small business (sole proprietorship) so I needed 1040 sch. C this year. I went through taxslayer, a decent program though I couldn't get it to work with Mozilla. (Opera was fine.) $9.95 total for state and federal e-file. If I hadn't known all my deductions in advance, I wouldn't have gotten them, so YMMV if you're looking for a more wizard-ish program. http://taxslayer.com/
I e-filed both state and federal this afternoon; I need the refund.

For Michigan you can avoid the $24.95 fee for Turbotax State by entering through the link on this page www.MIFastfile.org. This probably applies to other states, please note it is limited by income and other qualifications.

The "Essentials" is actually the 1040EZ version which costs $9.95 for everybody, even though not many people can use it (no stocks, itemezed deductions, etc) Where is the special 'deal'??

The deal is that it is free processing and free to print to mail. Normally you have to pay $9.95 just to use the software.
