Pretty much. I have an iPod that works fine, obviously. a Swissmemory knife, and a noname 256mb device. Rule of thumb, any USB is golden. |

As far as I know any usb keyboard, mouse, pen drive, external drive will work on the Mac.
If you want to access an external HDD that has stuff on it, the disk format matters. WinXP (generally) uses NTFS which the Mac can read, but not write. If you need to share a drive between a mac and winxp, a compromise is to format it as FAT32 which both systems can read/write but which has some limitations regarding permissions, maximum file sizes, etc. |

Did anyone get FatCash? I got FatCash on the printer, but not for the computer, even though they were in the same order.
I'm wondering if it is because they shipped a month apart, or because the laptop order was adjusted (for the processor upgrade), or because the laptop is simply ineligible. |

My order just shipped, and I had the printer for a week before FatCash hit... but yes, I'm guessing that because they changed the order it may gum up the works. |

Does anyone know if you have to purchase Applecare at the same time with the notebook, or do you have a grace period? Apple Care for Students on the Education section is like $239, but its regular price thru ADC for students, which is like $339. Is it possible to buy the notebook thru ADC, and then purchase Applecare thru the regular students site? Cause if not, then it works out to be the exact same price pretty much, if someone wanted to get the warranty. The $100 you save thru ADC plus the extra $100 for the warranty makes it the same price as not going thru ADC.
This will be my first mac and i was thinking about getting the applecare just in case. |

You can purchase AppleCare at any point during the initial 1-year warranty period; the key thing is to actually register the AppleCare to your computer before the year is up. Apple is pretty big on pushing AppleCare, actually. I've had phone techs try to sell it to me, people at the Genius Bar (I had a PowerBook with problems), and when my iPod's initial warranty was expiring Apple sent me e-mails trying to get me to purchase it before the year was up.
As for purchasing it seperate from the computer, there shouldn't be a problem with that. You can purchase the extended warranty no matter where you got your computer from (Apple direct, authorized reseller, eBay), so there shouldn't be an issue purchasing it in the regular Education store. |

Buy your Applecare from the Education Store. Lil' white and red box, inside is an activation number. Call Apple, give them your Activation number, and your computer's serial number. viola'. Standard policy is that you have to link Applecare to a unit within its 1 year coverage , but I've gotten around that by prroving that I bought Applecare and simply forgot to link it.
Wouldn't recommend that, personally. |

The developer connection store is only online, and the Retail stores don't share pricing data. (Believe me, I tried) |

Assuming you don't have to pay tax at Amazon AND you do have to pay tax (and a recycling fee - i think this is for the display). The price at apple is $2181.91. So you'll spend $99 and save yourself about $150 plus get the lastest OS releases for a year (ie, Tiger, maybe Leopard if it comes out in the next 12 months) which would normally cost you $69 if you're a student and $119 if you're not. Your savings add up if you want to customize your macbook pro because the upgrades are also 20% off.
