Hello,

This is my first post cause you guys always beated me to the point. From my search, I don't see posts about 20% ADC discount. I was looking for a way to get Macbook at a good price and ADC offers 20% off for student.

This is probably a great deal for student who are looking to buy Macbook Pro and Power Mac.

Basically, you become student ADC member(Apple Developer Connection), then you are allowed to purchase "one" Apple system (Laptop or Desktop + Monitor + Mouse + iPod ) in your student lifetime. They all have to be purchase at the same time. Ipod, Mouse and some items gets only 10% so it's the same with educational store.

For Macbook Pro, 20%off for Laptop and all add-on options(Memory,Hard drive..)

$1999(with 2GHz, 1GB (512mbx2), 7200Hard Disk) + $99 = $2098+tax
[*It's $2017 if you want only5400HD)

$1599(with 1.83GHz, 512mb, 5400HD) + $99 = $1698 +tax

I think 2GHz system is a better deal since it costs only $80 to get faster 7200 Hard drive (It costs $160 for 1.83GHz system .. So ~$200 more, you get 256mb in grahic card RAM + faster processor)

Let me know if you have any question

ps. 2% (39.98 of 1999system)FatWallet CashBack may/may not work here. But it's worth to try by going to developer website via main Apple Home page.

So all you do is buy the student membership for 99 dollars, and it takes you directly to the student store? Have you done this. I ordered my MacBook pro 1 minute after it went up, at the student price. So, this is about 100 bucks less. When is your scheduled to ship? Mine is Feb 15.

20% is better than normal student price?

ADC Student Members may be eligible to receive a once-per-lifetime discount on a single system to be used only for development purposes. This offer is currently available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and European countries with online Apple Stores, as well as a few countries in Asia/Pacific. For instructions on how to obtain your discount, please refer to the ADC Student Hardware Discount page. Make sure you follow the instructions exactly.

As an Apple Developer Connection (ADC) Member, you agree to the terms of the Hardware Purchase Agreement Terms and Conditions (pdf) when you order through the ADC Hardware Purchase Program. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not order through the ADC Hardware Purchase Program. Please note that an ADC Student Member will receive only one discount in his or her lifetime as a Student Member. This restriction will continue through multiple Student memberships, Student membership renewals, or new Student memberships purchased. You will not be able to utilize a discount more than once as a Student Member, even if you create a different ADC account with a new ADC member number.

Actually I did this a couple years ago for the same reason - cheaper than student price. And the best part about it, they send you free Mac OS X releases, full versions, for a year, everytime they post an update.

Yeb, that's the best part of being a member too.. (It costs $500 for non student)
I just cancelled my order from Educational Store, and I will be placing order by this weekend. I am still thinking what I need to buy besides Macbook since everything needed to be in one order.
After you get approved you will be able to access their store. (Try this link in case they let you browse the Developer store ADC store and click on "ADC Hardware Purchase Program Store" in #1 of Ordering Information

Shipping date: On the Developer store website, it says delivery date is by Feb. I'll let you know when it actually says after I place and order.

I can add these discounted macs into my cart without membership, can I place the order?

tonylu said: I can add these discounted macs into my cart without membership, can I place the order?

no, they verify you are an adc member. When signing up, they will check to see if you are truly a student

tonylu: "Try it with your Apple account, Man" Let us know how it works out.

From what I know, you will eventually have to log in with ADC account during the check out. I once thougth Apple account is automactically ADC account. But I do need to create an ADC account and fax them my ID and current course schedule.

So limit one laptop or one desktop, can't get both?

I placed an order with my Apple account, 2x512mb and 100gb@7200 for $2170 shipped. I'm a student, but don't have ADC account right now. Let's see next.

i bought a powerbook this way 6 years ago.

ADC membership rocks because they send u all the newest OS they release for free..

(I sold all those OS copies on eBay and got my 99 dollars membership fee back easily)

plus they send you calender and stuff.

pretty cool!

but i think they actually verify that you are enrolled in a computer programming class now. YMMV.

how much is the imac? i was going to go the Amazon route (1299-20% dealpass giftcards- 125 rebate for a 17 inch+ $100 for a gig or ram and a 2 button mouse).

Great Post

If you are willing to deal with dealpass, then it's cheaper to go the Amazon route, because you still get the 20%, plus you don't pay tax, plus you get a rebate.. plus you can get FAR add-ons.

So this is an ongoing program with no announced expiration date on the offer....right?
I am still waiting for 12" MacBooks to come out. I need the portability of 12". My PowerBook will be my wife's as soon as one of those MacBooks come in 12".
I hope they release it soon, because I graduate soon.

They should get that out before summer I think.

Now they don't check if you enrolled in a computer programming class. I took only one dessertation class and got approved
Thanks for the eBay idea. I am looking for ways to get $99 back too. Did you sell the OS copies that come with the computer or the OS copies that were released afterward?

What are the FAR add-ons from Amazon? Please explain.

recently Amazon had the mighty mouse, a kensington bag and a canon printer for FAR.

i'm kinda new to the Mac/apple computer, but thinking about ordering a Macbook Pro for my podcast project..

anyone know what are the 'cool' laptop bag for the 15 inch Macbook/powerbook? i want to get a good (and cool) bag for it.. since it's so expensive thanx..

oh i'm also thinking about order the 1GB ram from crucial as well... they are reliable right? they already have the Ram available and the Mackbook hasn't even come out yet.. thanX

Perhaps this is even better, since the educational price of the low end MacBook is 1799.

I did this a couple weeks ago and ordered the high end Macbook Pro with the 7200RPM HD option, $2200 shipped after tax. By getting the student ADC membership I saved like $300 beyond even the student price, and I just got a packet in the mail from Apple that had a copy of Tiger on DVD.

I agree. The high-end one is worth paying extra (~$200 for 1.83GHz,better graphic card, faster HD). I actually only want 7200HD but Apple charges $160 instead of $80 for the 1.67GHz system.
However, it looks like one is able to order via the Develop store without signing up for ADC membership. IF it goes through, that would really sweeten the deal.

Buyer beware, folks. Words to the wise.......

care to explain?

SeriusBlack said: Buyer beware, folks. Words to the wise.......

In regards to what? Apple computers, or the ADC store without a membership?

I'm guessing the latter. I know Apple used to verify any ADC purchases, especially those with Student ADC kits. Whether they still do now, I'm unsure.

Did you try? Pleaes keep us posted because I'm going to be ordering in the next few weeks.

I am actually eligible for the ADC student membership, but I don't want to pay for it unless I have to.

Why are you going for the 2x512MB RAM configuration instead of 1x1GB? When you want to upgrade your RAM you'll have to buy 2x1GB instead of 1x1GB. It seems that the $80 discount isn't worth it, but perhaps you know something I dont?

i'm planning to buy the macbook pro and i swear that crucial 1GB ram shoot up in price like $50..

i'm totally noob to Mac, so anyone know if the RAM at outpost.com (DDR2 PC2-4200) would work in the Macbook (DDR2 PC2-5300 ). thank you

has anyone had success purchasing through the acd membership without being a member?

I got an email saying there's a problem with my order. No ADC membership that is. So it's safe to say that you have to pay for the membership for the order to go through.

...........

Thanks, ongnoi for clerify the membership issue. I didn't try to order it yet since my apple id is linked to my ADC membership.
About the memory, I just want to save money and memory will get cheaper down the road (maybe 1GB for 60-70dollars). I can also eBay old 2x512MB. So, hopefully I can get 2GB for ~$100 after everything. I just don't need 2GB now and faster hard drive is defitely better.

ps. Of course, you can buy $100 printer and get $100 rebate. eBay the printer and get at least $80.

Where is the printer deal? On the ADC store?

ADC purchases are exempt from rebates. Green for the op, been lookin' at gettin' one of those.

I don't remember if this had been said.. but get the machine from ADC Store, and the Applecare agreement from the Student Store.

nope.. its $179 ipod rebate is only for educational Apple store. Don't see why ADC can offer it since some ADC members are students too.
Also, is there any news saying that 2nd gen of chip will solve heat problem?(just wondering)

BTW $100 printer rebate will end this July 17, 2006..
