For those of you looking for a really good home theater or musical sub, this is an excellent choice. They currently have a pre-order deal which is $100 off the official price + 1/2price shipping + Hsu t-shirt. This offer ends today at 9pm Est.
This is the latest VTF-3HO model, which they had at CES..although I haven't personally heard it, I've only heard good things from those who have.
For those of you who don't know, this is an online only, and a very reputable company...but, I guess I posted this deal for the niche of Home theater owners that would need/want this kind of sub.

So you post this deal, but you don't tell us how much it will cost. Then we click the link that this will cost $799 PLUS shipping???? And this is hot because why?
I always thought their Ventriloquist system though highly regarded was a POS. I was excited to have 1 back then after seeing all the crazy reviews its been getting but when I hooked it up I was like "that's it???". I have since sold that POS away and bought something that gave me what I wanted. I just dunno if their subs are also 1 of those supposedly highly regarded by come up short. For that price I think I'll have to go with a Velodyne sub.
Good catch. This is a nice sub and $100 off makes it very interesting. I'm trying to build my own system and this would be a great piece to start with. Thanks!
If, this sub can do what they claim, I think it'll be better than the equivalent priced SVS (atleast their cube subs, their cylinder subs can go really low/loud). Although, SVS is supposedly a great internet brand too.
I've never seen a single negative or even a neutral review for the current Hsu Vtf-3 Mk2 model, so I went ahead and pre-ordered one today. Unfortunately, my batch won't ship till end of March
Hsu does make good subwoofers and $100 off by preordering is a nice opening discount. However, at that price, I would also very much consider SVS. Fatwallet is about getting the best deal and the most for your money! I would definitely buy an Hsu or SVS (you are buying directly from the maker!) over a similar priced subwoofer from a retailer. A $800 SVS or Hsu sub easily outperforms (sound quality especially)a $800 Velodyne, etc. Simply put...$500, $800, whatever amount spent on a Hsu or SVS gets you more for your subwoofer dollars.
I'd love to see you do that. If this is true, why aren't you building them and selling them on eBay for profit?
When all is said and done, the Sub and the center channel are the two most important speakers in your surround system, and if you really care about home theatre and music sound, then your willing to buy the best product for your needs. If not, don't look here, go look at an 8" Sony Sub for $99

rofl..
If you have the know-how you can build your own that will tromple this for half the price.
If you have the know-how you can build your own that will tromple this for half the price. Obviously this just goes to show your lack of knowledge. Only an idiot would think they can just slap a bunch of parts together and get something that sounds decent.. why dont you just light a fire cracker it'll make more noise...geez
LOL. The ventriloquist VT-12 was a total POS, worse than the bose cubes. at least the bose cone are paper so the sound is more natural even Bose misses some highs and lows, normal listeners can't tell the difference anyway. but that VT-12 man it sucked big time.
i'll pass on this sub. get the dayton from part express for a fraction of the price.
While I agree they could of used another term other than "turbo" HSU and SVS offer excellent subs. Unless your talking about a Velodyne DD18 $3999 anything less the SVS and HSU subs beat hands down. Look over at AVS forums for further information.
Well, I'm glad atleast some people were able to get in on the deal. I ended up ordering it with the turbo, because it should allow more area and result in more depth, and of course less port noise with the big ports. Plus the turbo, if bought seperately, is supposedly going to go for $200. Anyway, I guess the pre-order is over, although, I don't see anything about that on the Hsu forums yet...so I'm not going mark this deal as dead, quite yet...hopefully any late viewers can still sneak one in tommorrow. Can't wait to get the sub >:-D
i have to say that ventriloquist system was really lame and not even worth the 120 i paid at CompUSA. however, the STF2 i got at CompUSA is awesome, so i wouldn't base your opinions about hsu solely on the surround speaker system.

i built my own shiva 12" seal sub excellent too.
Don't waste ur money here.
Dude the Ventriloquist VT-12 are Small Satellites, anyone seriously into HT doesnt buy box speaker sets; they are for the ill informed crowd. The Dayton sub is great for those on a tight budget or first time sub. I built my own subs for my car back in the day 15 years ago yeah sure I even put them in the house made some rumble....so do lots of other things
For those of you saying that you can make your own sub, while it is true, you can make a high quality sub for cheaper, it will not be the same as a sub engineered by professionals. You can get the Dayton sub parts and build quite a box, but the freq response curve will not be as flat, nor will the frequency go as low and still have usable bass. Most DIY subs sound their best at about 30hz, which is great for music, but for home theater, there are movies that go well below 20hz, which this sub will easily do, as it is tuned for 16hz with the turbo. I won't knock DIY subs (I think they are great value), but the price of Hsu and SVS will be hard to beat for their quality. You can always get better brands such as Velodynes, Paradigms, Revels, but will spend considerably more.
I'm not going to try to convince anyone, especially since everyone has their budget and needs. Just letting people know how complex choosing home theater equipment can get..no-one will ever agree on any one choice
