CAN DEALGUIDE BE MORE SPECIFIC? WHAT DOES ACTIVATION MEAN? MANY HAVE BEEN GETTING THE PHONES PRE-ACTIVATED WITH NEW LINES (NUMBERS) AND 0.01 CENT BALANCE. WOULD THIS CONSIDERED TO BE "ACTIVATED", OR DO WE NEED TO ADD THE $10 CARD THAT COMES WITH THE PHONE?

Why the heck would anyone pay for a cell phone these days???? - Because "free" ones usually require a contract, thus not really "free". Once unlocked, this would be a nice backup option for your "plan" phone if you have one. You can use multiple SIMs on an unlocked phone so if you get sick of your current service or move and get a plan somewhere else, you don't have to buy a whole new phone. If you get a triband or quadband, you can also use it in foreign countries, once unlocked.

=====
Amounts deposited into your account expire as follows: cards less than $25, 30 days; cards $25 to $75, 90 days, $100 cards, 180 days. Unused account balance is forfeited upon expiration. If money is added to your account before the current balance expires, the existing balance will carry over to the new expiration date.

Unlock Nokia 3220b
I spent some time to search by google and finally got something that really worked for my two Nokia 3220b phones:

goto http://unlock.nokiafree.org/

Used the nokiafree calculator, with:
network: Cingular
GEN: asic 6
Nokia Model: ASIC 2.

Good luck and enjoy!

+++++++++++++
3220b - "'phone restricted" "undo" screen (with SIM installed)
without a SIM my phone would not take codes, I wasn't getting accept or error codes
when I placed the SIM (AT&T) in a got a "Phone restricted" screen with a flashing stop sign and "UNDO" at the bottom
pushing the center/5-way button, UNDO, brought up a new "enter restriction code" screen
I typed in the code and the phone unlocked

Good luck. -Oceanus

I just Unlocked my 3220 using the below! It works just follow exactly and doublecheck numbers...

Unlock Info For Nokia 3220

goto http://www.lur.nu/unlock/nokia_eng.php

1.Start your phone Without a SIM card.

2.Hit *#06# to get the IMEI number. This number will be used in step 3 below.

3. Enter the IMEI in the box below. It should be 15 digits.

4. Select country and operator the phone is locked to.
Choose: USA ?Cingular Pacific Bell Wireless

5. Select phone model in the box below.
Nokia Model: Nokia 3220 [RH-37] Box Serial 32821 [Asic 6] and Code +5#

6.Enter the box serial from the box above into the box below. If you know what you are doing, you can use another.
Box serial: 33821
(Update: Alot of people are reporting success with using 32835.)

7. Click Generate code button.

8. You should get 7 codes, like these ?repeat like these NOT THESE EXACT CODES

#pw+809261027715416+1#
#pw+016403430467154+2#

9. make sure you had removed the sim-card in step 1 above

10. power on the phone

11. enter the code as it is with all the charactes. Start with the 7th code (the one that ends in +7#), then the first then the fifth.
(to get p w and + hit the asterik (*) key several times)

12.double check the code before pressing the final # key

13. Remember- you have 5 tries, after 5 tries the phone will get locked and you will need a USB cable and software to unlock it after that.

14. Looks like some people are getting 3220B. These instructions do not seem to be working for them...;-(
(Update from kwadguy- All US phones 850/1800/1900 are 3220B, rest of the world phones 900/1800/1900 are 3220)

CoolxStuff says:

I used the method on quick summary (http://www.lur.nu/unlock/nokia_eng.php) but put 32835 in the Box Serial as someone mentioned. the thing is you have to insert the non-Cingular SIM while entering unlock code (pw...). Hit the center of 5 ways navigation button to open window to enter restriction code. Key in code #7(the last one) Worked for me. I tried the other method like no sim, Cingular sim, or the code other than above, but they all didn't work. Fortunately, it worked at the fifth time!!!
IMEI is also on the back of the phone or hit Hit *#06# while there is no SIM in the phone. However, you have to have a SIM in the phone while unlocking it.
Actually, it also works with Cingular sim in, no need for non-Cingular sim. I did with the second one.

ra7 says:

One more vote for what coolstuff said. It worked perfectly fine. I didn't have much luck without the sim. I used a tmobile sim and it worked fine. Now using it with my old AT&T service

If you still have old Free2Go account (many started on famous 12/20 deal), you can move your balance now to Cingular prepaid, and keep the phone number. Key here is not activating your phone, call CS, they will transfer you to migration, you will have to give them IMEI of new phone and SIM number, and voila, you have yourself a new GSM phone with old balance. Good luck.

Unlocking the Nokia 6030
Thanks to Jackky for figuring this out.

Here are the instructions that you need to follow once you've downloaded and installed the NokiaFree v3.10 program.

1) Download the code-generator mentioned above NokiaFREE_v310_Setup

2) Make sure you use these settings in the generator EXACTLY!! Failure to do so will result in phone being unlockable without a cable.

Check 'Expert Mode' under Options
Nokia, DCT4(expert)
USA, Cingular, 31017000
Asic 2, ONE, 32836

3) Remove the Sim Card from the phone, replace the battery, and power up. Phone should tell you that you have to insert a card.

4) Enter *#06# to get the IMEI number after phone powers up.

5) Enter your IMEI code in the corresponding box in the NokiaFree program, and it will generate approximately 8 codes.

6) At the insert card screen on the phone, enter the last code (the one ending in 7) from the NokiaFree program EXACTLY as given, but WITHOUT SPACES. Double check the code before pressing the final # key. If you entered it right, the phone should unlock as soon as you hit the last character of the code.

7) After you unlock, For T-Mobile users to enable T-Zones: Use the T-Mobile Wireless Configurator above and choose "Nokia 6820" It will work for the 6030 as well (Yoshi)

Nokia 6061 Unlock Instructions
------------------------------
I know that lot of you figured out how to do it. But I see need-6061-help posts from some of us. I just unlocked my 6061. Its same as other Nokias.
1. Goto the Nokia Calculator at http://unlock.nokiafree.org. There are two calculators there. Use "Nokia Dct4 online Calculator". But, DO NOT use "Nokia Dct3 online Calculator".
2. Enter your IMEI code (Press *#06# at your phone keyboard, it will give your IMEI as the site says).
3. Pick Network as "USA - Cingular Pacific Bell Wireless"
4. Pick GEN as "asic 6"
5. Pick Nokia Model as "ASIC 2"
6. Press "Nokia DCT4 Unlock Codes !" button
7. You should get around 7 different codes on 7 lines. Use the first one. It worked for all my three phones.
8. Put a SIM card from a differnt carrier in your 6061. Power it on. It gives some "Phone Restriction" message. It gives you option to Undo. Press your OK button (big round steel button in the middle of navigation bar).
9. It gives you dialog to enter your unlock code. Enter your unlock code. To get P hit the * key 3 times, to get W hit the * key 4 times. After entering code, press OK button. You should see a message like "Restriction OFF".
10. CONGRATULATIONS !!!. You unlocked your phone.

With this deal, can you purchase the phone, choose the pay as you go deal, and use it with your regular Cingular plan by replacing the Sim card with one from another Cingular phone? Or do you have to sign a deal and use it as such? Thanks!

Nokia 3220 is the best deal

Where is the hot deal? Thats Cingular's everyday price on these phones with PAYG scheme.

alert mods

can we get $20 FatCash too? It is good only on pre-paid or post-paid phones and plans.

Click here, then on $20 link at the right

If this qualifies, then how do we get to the phones from Cingular main page?

alert mods

Nokia 3220 has a camera?

alert mods

Yeah, the 3220 has a decent camera, I picked one up, Can't beat $29.99 for that phone.

alert mods

Can I used 3220 in India? If YES, How do i unlock it without Cingular service? I already have verizone service and phone.

alert mods

Has anyone done this before?

Ordered a phone and NEVER activate it and use it as your phone on your existing Cingular plan?

If so, does Cingular charge you anything extra for NOT activating the Pre-paid plan you agreed to get with the refurb phone?

alert mods

The 3220 is a great deal at $30. It is NOT a "world phone" because the US version does not support the 900mhz band. There are no cheap world phones (quad band: 850/900/1800/1900) available at Cingular. If you are looking for a world phone, move along.

The 3220 is the best deal, by far, offered from Cingular. The 3220 for $30 kills deals for things like the 6010, even if you can get the 6010 for less...

How about Former ATTWS Customers who are now Cingular customers? Can the phone(s) be used with a former ATTWS customer SIM card?

Yes, did this last summer. Never activated the SIM & still using phone on current post-paid plan.

Yes, but you will have to unlock it first. An ATTWS sim card will NOT work in a locked Cingular phone.
