I've done PM's to Best Buy and Frys at the Comp USA Austin North store five times (pretty hefty ones on a Compaq SR1610NX and some larger hard drives). The would match the instore price and then give me the "matched rebate" amounts in "Valued Customer Gift Cards" that were basically merch credits that had a 30 day expiration. I was already using the "AOL deal" $250 gift cards, so that was fine with me!
Then they started giving me the run around. It really depends on which CSR & which manager you get: Justin did three for me, Troy only did one and then denied two. The CSR's there actually lie to your face and tell you there is no official Pricematch policy, but that's bull. So I called corporate and let them know what was up and they emailed me the policy. I have since moved from Austin, so I haven't been back to try it. I would program corporate customer service's number in your cell and take a copy of the pricematch policy. If they tell you know, whip out the the printout. If they still say no, then break out the phone and call corporate. Have them talk to the manager. Usually the threat is good enough to get them to comply. Of course, you probably won't be welcome in that store in the future.

If you live in San Diego, forget about it. I called CompUSSR and asked them about pricematching, without telling the guy about the drive. He said if their price ends up lower, then they adjust it to that it equals what it would be after rebates. And then I said "So if Fry's has a drive and....." and he said "Yeah, the Seagato 300? We have an issue with that. We will have to price ours 60 dollars higher so it comes out to the $79.99 price after our rebates"
What a toolbox. This could've been good.
Dude. I was the reason you probably got this response.
I pick the drive off the shelf and bring it to the check out. I ask Brian (checkout guy) if they pricematch Fry's and he says yes.
We go over to a computer and he looks up the Fry's ad for $79.99 and then he calls Fry's to verify it's in stock. It is. He prints out something and writes $79.99 on it and says "you're good to go, this guy will help you".
Well "that guy" turned out to be a big jerkoff. I probably made his day asking for a pricematch that he could deny. He said he could sell it to me for $79.99 + the $60 in rebates. I'm like that's even more than Fry's since it's tax on $139.99. He said "yep" with this bigass grin. I argued for a bit. He even said they would pricematch a drive at Fry's if it had rebates for the price after rebates, but he wouldn't do this! Yeah right!
Anyway, I was sooooo close. |

dont feel too bad. i'm in LA and i have been shot down many times for PM at CompUSA and Circuit City. Sure, LA has many local Fry's B&M locations, but that doesn't change anything. It actually only makes it worse, because a lot of people try to PM and then the managers at OD, OM, CC, and CompUSSR learn to turn you down.I would think that constitutes fraud to have a price match policy and then refuse to honor it. Someone should just call a cop and file a complaint for fraud. I wonder if that would shake them up!?!? |

I've had PM declined because the Fry's ad says "Limit 1 per customer" - they said they don't PM limited quantities. |

I've P/M'ed to Fry's a few times, but I think I'd rather have a root canal. The last time several "managers" felt the need to pore over the Fry's ad for what seemed like forever. They wound up matching, but the geniuses told the CSR not to give me the CUSA rebate printout. Duh. |

if you are planning to PM at San Diego CrapUSA (off 163 & 805), just forget about it.
while ive been very lucky with other retailers like CC, and St@ples, SD CrapUSA is the one egg that refuses to break. the CSRs, and managers seem to know 'how to counter-act PM requests' very well. however, ive had no problem with PM at few CrapUSAs in LA county/Orange county area. |

Deals like this seem like such a pain. I mean I'm sure they're cool if you get them, but is it worth all the headache? Plus, it's kind of abusing the system a little bit I think. |
