Not really. here's the outcomes: best - you get the PM and you get the MIR OK - you get a compussr nazi and no go on price match Still OK - you get the PM but somehow the MIR invalidates you... still will be the same price Fry's is selling it for and it's WAY below market retail.

dont feel too bad. i'm in LA and i have been shot down many times for PM at CompUSA and Circuit City. Sure, LA has many local Fry's B&M locations, but that doesn't change anything. It actually only makes it worse, because a lot of people try to PM and then the managers at OD, OM, CC, and CompUSSR learn to turn you down.I would think that constitutes fraud to have a price match policy and then refuse to honor it. Someone should just call a cop and file a complaint for fraud. I wonder if that would shake them up!?!?
My team of lawyers will contacting your team of lawyers for this posting. Come on, every single price matching policy out there states its for the final price after rebates. If something is 50 dollars after rebate....they match the price of 50, not before. ONLY because of poorly trained employees do people get these price matchs. Each time its scamming the system. But lets sue them....SUE THEM
A productive thing would be to eliminate all rebates, and have rebates handled between the vendors and stores...leaving the customers headache free |

No, the police do not handle consumer fraud complaints of this nature. That's what your local and state Consumer Affairs office, and your state's Office of the Attorney General do. You need to phone and/or write to them. Even that may not get you compensation for that specific instance, but with enough complaints, they should eventually investigate and then take action. Sometimes the one complaint is enough to get you your money. |

i just got back from trying this deal and this is what CompUSA told me:
the frys ad in the paper is for an 8MB HD and the one at CompUSA with the rebates is 16MB so it is a NO GO.
CompUSA has the 8MB available for 179.99 but there are no rebates on this one, they will PM this to the frys 79.99 but you cant get the deal for the 16MB...

The 16MB version is also on sale at Fry's, but it's $10 more. You should have had the item number handy so they could call and check, or a printout from Outpost, and used that. |

Go to Comp USA website, print the rebate forms for the 16MB version, and you'll find that you still get a $50 rebate with the 8MB version (you just won't get the $10 ebate). |

Got the PM - easy. CSR said 'I can price-match but you don't get the rebates' and threw them away. Got the 8MB version so am good for $50 in Seagate rebates, total w/tax 86.19 - 50 = 36.19. Thanks OP. |

Fry's link
Circuit City link
Just got back from Circuit City even though Sick Teddy Bear said I couldn't do it...
IT IS THE SAME DEAL!
They couldn't believe Fry's was selling it so cheap. It took them a while to get through, but when they talked to Fry's they said they had 6 more in stock.
So, I paid 67.99 + tax = around $73 no rebates. The drive at Circuit City is $199 no rebates!
I'm sending my wife there tomorrow morning to get another one. I asked them if I could buy more and he said "just like Fry's, 1 per customer". |

Jesus moley man! The OP wasn't kidding when he said it was supper YMMV. came from 4 crapusa's near me. Tried PMing it directly in the first store, manager said no go because it says limited quantities on the ad, im like WTH?
second store i go says no can do since its a instant rebate. what part of instant don't they understand?!?!?!
so i bought it anyway, might as well do the ole Circuit City trickeroo on them by getting rid of the rebates
third store i go to was going to do the PM until the manager said that the reason its priced like that is because people buy the HD's, and return them. I countered, saying that fry's only does a 5% markdown, not a 50+% one!?!? he's stunned and starts gagging and says, uhhh still no.
at this point im ready to call someone a douche
i go to the last one and the manager was about to do it but he needed to confirm with frys.
Sucks. I'm going to return these drives and getthe 16mb buffer one for 10 bucks extra instead. Crazy bastards. It sure is the soviet store.

yea i think this should be a dead deal now. i dont understand how ANYONE got this deal or any deal that involves rebates.
i went to 2 CompUSA's in san diego and both said the same thing. they will PM to frys but they end up pming to like 150 and say that the rest is covered by their rebates...and there really is no counter to that because its true...i told them that they are charging me tax on 150 instead of 90 (i was trying to get the 16mb) and one store manager told me he would refund me the difference in tax and the other said they dont pm to cover tax. i then told them how i dont want to loan them 60 bucks in the form of rebates and im losing money like interest in the bank and other opportunity costs by not having the 60 dollars now. but none the less i was shot down twice so i dont know how else to go about it. in san diego at least.... i need a new HD and other parts for a new comp, SUCKS
gl to the rest :\\ |

Uh, no, you weren't told you couldn't do it. Quite the contrary, you were told the PM wouldn't be as hard. You were told it's not the same deal, because it isn't.
Don't know how you figure $68 is the same deal as $20. |

No go. The manager offered for $139.99 as they have $60 rebates. He said that it was their policy when I asked him why any custmer asks for Pricematch with rebates when the other store is selling for $79.99 |
