dont feel too bad. i'm in LA and i have been shot down many times for PM at CompUSA and Circuit City. Sure, LA has many local Fry's B&M locations, but that doesn't change anything. It actually only makes it worse, because a lot of people try to PM and then the managers at OD, OM, CC, and CompUSSR learn to turn you down.I would think that constitutes fraud to have a price match policy and then refuse to honor it. Someone should just call a cop and file a complaint for fraud. I wonder if that would shake them up!?!?
CompUSA's policy say that they will only price match if their AFTER REBATE price is higher. You are trying to price match BEFORE THE REBATE price and get a rebate, that is fraud! Go ahead call the cops.
Good deal nontheless. |

No go in the San Bruno location. They will only reduce price enough to match the Frys price with rebate in place. No go in the San Francisco Market St. location. They claim the Frys in Palo Alto is not 'local'. |

i went to 2 CompUSA's in san diego and both said the same thing. they will PM to frys but they end up pming to like 150 and say that the rest is covered by their rebates...and there really is no counter to that because its true...i told them that they are charging me tax on 150 instead of 90 (i was trying to get the 16mb) and one store manager told me he would refund me the difference in tax and the other said they dont pm to cover tax. i then told them how i dont want to loan them 60 bucks in the form of rebates and im losing money like interest in the bank and other opportunity costs by not having the 60 dollars now. but none the less i was shot down twice so i dont know how else to go about it. in san diego at least.... i need a new HD and other parts for a new comp, SUCKS
gl to the rest :\\
This deal is not dead, many will be able to do it but it all depends on the CS rep and if you are good at hand to hand combat. That is the reason YMMV is in the title of the post. CompUSSR and many other companies are now using rebates not only to screw customers out of money that may never be returned but nowadays they are using rebates to circumvent their own PM policy.
Ultimately PM policies are so full of holes they are essentially useless (if not fraud). Consider reasons you will be denied:
-Our price is cheaper after our rebate. -Limit one per customer. -Our item is on clearance. -Their item is on clearance. -Our item is discontinued. -Their item is discontinued. -We can't confirm price since you don't have the advertisement flyer. -That's a sale (since it's on a advertisement flyer), we don't PM sale items. -They are not "Official Reseller". -Different model (when it's not). -Different version (when it's not). -Different color (when it's not). -They have an instant rebate. -They are not a local store. -They are out of stock. -They have limited stock. -Their's is limited time only. -That's a promotional item. -Corporate didn't approve it yet. -Corporate disapproved it for no reason so we can't do it. -That store accepts returns, it might be used. -My manager is not on duty. -We only PM to our other "office" (insert other niche here) stores. -We only PM to the lowest price before rebate. -We will PM but it will invalidate your rebates, coupons and sale price. -We don't PM our own website. -It's raining and I'm sad. -Today is Tuesday. -My name is Joe.
I am sure I have left out a few (probably even obvious ones) however I have heard them all (except for the last three).
I am personlly lucky because I can get most PM's done (politely but firmly). However, I think at this point actually getting your teeth pulled is more pleasent than dealing with most of these lunkhead managers who act as if I am taking money directly from their wallets and food from the mouths of their children. The power trip is not unlike some cops. (and for all of you "Authority is God" types out there: calm down. I have interacted with many cool cops and some cool managers for that matter).
Traditionally most corporations have been content to rip off the masses who know nothing about all things technical but at this point they want to rip off people such as ourselves who actually do know a thing or two about fair pricing.
The most important thing for a corporation is to have a giant plaque on the wall that says "100% Price Guarantee". It's for public relations and for bragging rights. Whether or not they honor that "Guarantee" is the last thing they are concerned about.

I agree that rebates is a way to void their own PM policy since rebates can argue as 'promotion' and PM policy doesn't cover 'promotion' sale. And also agree that most corporation will try to find way not to honor their PM policy.
But the AR/PM deal that post recently are actually trying to take advantage or screw the company. The PM policy 'in good faith' is to allow you to buy from their store with the 'total price'(which is the final final price that customer pay after all the promotion, rebate, shipping, etc) match the same that you can buy from other local store if it is reasonable (like the item still avail in other store or the other store is not selling limited amount of items way below cost to drive customer to them, etc).
But ask yourself, all this AR/PM deal mentioned recently, we are trying to screw the store so we can buy stuff much much lower in 'total price' than we can actually buy from the other store. I don't see how can anyone complain if the store don't do price match when we are not trying to use the PM policy 'in good faith' in the first place. And try to get it much cheaper than what we actually have to pay ('total price') if we buy from other store. If we can't buy it from Fry's for 'total price' of $20, why do CompUSA has to do PM so we can buy from them for 'total price' of $20? If you want to complain about PM OR rebate, at least complain in a deal that the store screw you (which there are a few threads in the rebate/discussion forum) and not when you try to screw the store. |

SUCCESS!! Remewmber the saying, try and try until you die. Which is what I did. EVen after the crappy thing that happend yesterday.
To make the deal even sweeter, they pricematched the 16mb buffer to the 8mb buffer hard drive. (the 16mb one is 10$ more expensive.), ended up with 20$ after rebates
hollywood store is gone. i think there was another fatwalleter ahead of me with his girl i think |

yep, that was me in front of you, i decided to go back and get another one today. there was a different manager working today though, so when the CSR went back to check with him, he told her to ring it up as 79.99 + 60 to account for the rebates. when i told her that yesterday i was able to receive the full PM, she called him up to the desk, and he said he couldn't sell it to me for $79.99 because that would be below his cost. luckily though, i had my receipt from yesterday, so i showed him, and after he went in the back to talk to someone else, he agreed to do it.
glad at least one of you was able to get in on it! and thanks again OP, what a deal!!! |

Got one yesterday Austin Southwest.
Had to buy a $100CG and then they would let me have it at $79.99 Fry's price. $50 of rebates printed out on receipt.
The gift card was because the Fry's add said $90 in gift back dollars or some such -- They made it $100 since CUSA's original price was $10 more.
Figured I'd spend another $100 in the not too diatant future -- so I took the drive at $86 and change - $50 rebates or $36 out the door.
sweet -- my HDTV PC needed some serious storage upgrade. Up and running as I type.

I know its outta the way for you, but I would've gone to frys bought it for 79, and brought them the receipt that shows its 79.99 OTD, and the "instant gift rebate" is the same thing as any store's "instant rebate". |
