Yes, you said: I just feel OP's title sounds like a commercial promotion
That is a serious accusation and shouldn't be made without substantial evidence.
That is the same reason I rated it RED too. |

Hell, accusation what? I am just telling my personal feeling and this title still makes me feel this way:
Lycos Phone - the VoIP solution I've waited for...

just offering another alternative.
I was just reading about this service. It sounds great, I want to try it. I have Sunrocket (on DSL) + POTS local only line at this time. If this is as reliable as SR, then I might cancel SR and go with this, and save another $6.67 per month.
So, my question is has anyone tried this service so far, how reliable is it and what is the call quality? TIA. Also, is there anyway to get the dongle for free or FAR ? |

Well, to be fair, I think StanaPhone is a better service and I've been advocating it for a long time.
It's true that Globe7/Lycos is cheaper, but OTOH, I haven't been able to add minutes to my account.
And StanaPhone's voicemail feature is certainly better than Globe7's. |

I did this offer too (actually, I think it was another car insurance company), and a window popped up at the end confirming it. I even got that email with the insurance quote. But the $2 HAVEN'T been added to my account!
Are you sure the money actually got added? How long did it take? Thanks. |

There's no reason to fight, guys. They're BOTH good services. I use both of them.
They both have no sign-up fees, no monthly fees, and no contract to sign. They both give a real phone # and free incoming calls.
OTOH, StanaPhone seems to be more reliable and have better quality, so I use it for important calls. I use SkypeOut for that too.
And I use Globe7/Lycos for less important calls because it's cheaper. (I just hope I'll be able to add minutes somehow.)
Another point is that newbies to VOIP can't go wrong trying out Globe7/Lycos because of the free 100 minutes and no contract to sign. StanaPhone gave some out when they were new, but not anymore. |

Well, to be accurate, Lycos' is not true free incoming. It's Ad-based. Stanaphone.com is true free incoming.
And also you missed the other differences that lycos does not have yet:
free fax to email. free caller ID free conference calls (toll) supports SIP device (this is the MOST important)

Please explain. So what if it's ad-based? As long as you have money in your account, you can place and recieve calls, like any real phone #. Right? |

ad based is "ad based". strictly speaking, an ad based service is not completely free. |

We're not required to click on the ads; if we want, we can PAY for extra minutes - same as with StanaPhone. So what difference does it make? |

the stanaphone soft phone also has ADs? I don't know. I don't even want to install it. My point is stanaphone does not force you to watch ads, at least when using it with PAP2. |

No, it doesn't have ads. Read my post again. I said that although Globe7 has ads, we're not required to click on them. Instead, we can BUY minutes, just as with Stanahone. |

You can do it with the 310. Don't know about 410. |
