It's a good deal but from concensus they started to use TW companies so quality went down a bit, the deal from Staples is better since they're the same price but you could combine coupon to make it better.

quite right on that one. MCCs made in Taiwan are manufactured at the same places CMC disks are made at. The made in Singapore ones are better, but still, great disks. The made in Taiwan MCCs are fine, just not what they used to be. If you had between made in Taiwan and made in Singapore, it's the Singapore one's you should get.
Great deal!

I agree that the Staples deal is better. I got 3 packs and used a 10 off 40 coupon
Which Staples deal? Any link? tuan2 said: It's a good deal but from concensus they started to use TW companies so quality went down a bit, the deal from Staples is better since they're the same price but you could combine coupon to make it better.

i read in a thread somewhere that yeah verbatim is MIT and i think they're made by the same ppl that make TDK but verbatim quality control officers are better so their products tend to be better even tho it's the same factories making them. i dunno... just repeating what i read somewhere.

As has been noted in prior thread about the Sony dvd media at Staples, for dvd+r, look for a white circular spacer on top for the MIJ Sony-made discs (no TYs in dvd+r have been spotted at Staples in the threads that I have read). Round gray spacer dvd+r is MIT, for which reviews on the web are not all that great. For dvd-r, look for white octagonal spacer on top for MIJ TY-made discs (the best you can buy, with MIJ Sony-made just a bit below, but still pretty great--my local Staples stores in Michigan (Detroit area) just received many cases of the TY dvd-r media). Round gray spacer for dvd-r means MIT, just as with dvd+r. As already noted, add the 10 off 40 coupon (really cheap on eBay if you need one; had been posted on msn.com and one other web site, but no longer available) for a really great deal on 3 or 4 spindles. 10 off 30 coupon expired yesteray (Saturday). Verbatim MIT is the only MIT that has gotten really good feedback as far as I know, but I've had such a great experience with all MIJ Sony that I've stocked up at BB (a couple of weeks ago) and Staples.
Wow! Folks are really off track in this thread. Let's go over it, shall we:
1. In North America, 99% of Verbatim single-layer media is Made in Taiwan. You're not going to find any single-layer Verbatims here that are made in Singapore. The only Verbatim media that is from Singapore in North America are the dual-layer disks.
2. Verbatim single-layer media has been manufactured in Taiwan for a number of years. This is not a new development, and therefore, there is no corresponding drop in quality, since nothing has changed.
3. Verbatim contracts the manufacture of their media out to several companies in Taiwan, in order to meet market demand, but because they closely supervise and control the process, Verbatim media is on par in terms of quality with any media that is made in Japan, including Taiyo Yuden.

Confusing and pointless. First of all, MIJ and MIT are right there on the label, so the spacer color is irrelevant in most cases. You want to first look for MIJ media, of any brand, which will always be good. If you further want to identify rebranded TY media, then follow this guide:
Sony
8x -R = MIJ + White Octagonal Spacer 8x +R = MIJ + White Round or White Octagonal Spacer
16x -R = MIJ + White Octagonal Spacer 16x +R = Yet To Be Found
Fuji
8x -R = MIJ + That's Cakebox or Color Disk Tower 8x +R = MIJ + Standard Cakebox or Color Disk Tower
