<< I went to Benihanas for my birthday (City of Industry, CA) last year and I didn't get a free meal, do you have to request it? >>

As opposed to them somehow magically knowing it's your birthday?

I used to eat at these when I lived in Masschusetts in the 1980's.

Shepard's Buffet on Clearwater Beach, FL will give you a free dinner buffet (no lunch or breakfast deals though) on your birthday if there are three others with you who are paying customers. Shepard's is consistantly rated as the best buffet on Clearwater Beach. Dinner is a little pricey at $20, but it's all very high quality food. No Jell-O on this buffet!

Well today is my b-day so I went to Todai Seafood Buffet for a free meal.
I expected a free meal because that's what it clearly says on their website:

Taste, quality, and variety unparalleled, dine to your hearts content at an incredibly low price! Lunch prices vary from $12.95 to $16.95 and dinner prices vary from $21.95 to $26.95. Children prices are based on height: 5 feet and under, 4 feet and under, and 3 feet and under. Seniors 65 and better receive 20% discount at dinner and birthday celebrants receive a free meal on their birthday with a proof of ID.
http://www.todai.com/pages/todai/abouttodai.htm

It does not say anything about a certificate for another visit.

When paying for the bill the waitress gave me static about my request. She gave
the same routine about paying full price now and receiving a gift certificate for
future visit.

Lucklily, I brought with me a printout of the Todai website page that mentions
the free meal ON the day on the customers b-day. After she read the printout,
she pretended not to know English too well. So I had to talk to the manager. of course
there was nothing they could do because the the website is very clear.

Of course that will cost me a bit for GPRS but who cares!

Dine at Todai ON your birthday and receive an equal value 'Goodwill Certificate' for future visits (ID required).

birthday celebrants receive a free meal on their birthday with a proof of ID.

hmmm, contradicting facts on the website?

I don't know if this has been posted but P.F. Changs (great food imho) gives you either a HUGE piece of chocolate or cheese cake. mmmm. Last year we went to Dave and Busters and my friend got $5 credit for his birthday. I don't know if ID was required for either of these. I honestly don't pay attention. Luckily, P.F. Changs and D&B are right next to eachother so next week me and my friends are going out on my birthday to both of them . Maybe I will try one of those other places for lunch

I would have stood up with the print out and yelled out loud enough for the other patrons to hear. It's my birthday and they don't want to honor their free meal on birthdays deal. How do you all feel about that. Just to see the waitress pee herself. I'd fix em real good. I hope you left her an educational tip....learn about the free deals.
