For a short time (until June 30th) you can get 150 ! referral minutes from Tracfone! I didn't find out this worked until today, unfortunately...but, normally you get 120 bonus minutes for referrals...both for the person doing the referring and the person referred. But right now, enter the code 54604 during redemption of the bonus minutes for an extra 30 minutes free (I wasn't sure this would work on referral codes until today). Total 150 minutes! If you already have a phone and don't want to miss out... refer yourself! Just go to WalMart or Kmart or wherever, and buy a Nokia 1100 for $19. Use your current phone to refer the new one, and if you don't want the new one...wait a few weeks (if you do it sooner the foreign customer service reps...why oh why do they outsource customer service... get confused why you would want to take the minutes off a newly activated phone) and you can transfer the minutes from the new phone you just bought to the old one. Then you will have gotten 300 minutes (+20 if activated online) and a new phone for only $19 plus tax. Seems like a good deal to me!

Forgot to mention, don't use Firefox (or any alternative browser to IE, probably) when redeeming minutes. It seems to randomly create many error messages like "We're sorry, this transaction cannot be processed at this time" and can cause nothing but headaches. Sometimes, even though that message makes it sound like nothing worked, it was partially accepted...for instance it gave me that message while activating a phone, and when I tried to activate it again, it went thru but I did not receive my 20 free minutes or 60 days of service (it was set to expire the same day as activation). Ended up spending 20 grueling minutes on the phone with customer service in India over that one. Anyways, the moral of the story is use IE with Tracfone's site!

The OP did not post any referral link or did not offer to refer anyone. This is fine or SHOULD BE fine. Thanks OP. I was looking to get a prepaid fone for my in-laws who will be in the country just for a month.. this might work best.

has someone else verified this code does work with referral minutes?

hotcitygirl said: [Q]has someone else verified this code does work with referral minutes?

I have already done it myself on several phones. But it does seem to be more reliable if you do it online instead of through your phone's "redeem airtime" feature (on some of my phones the minutes didn't come through...maybe I didnt leave it on long enough...so I had to end up doing it on the website anyways).

Can you use more then one code? Like the 200 extra minutes and the 150 referral minutes? Doesn't the referral usually go through an email someone sends you?

No, you can only use one code per redemption. But the good thing here is, you can always do transactions separetely. If you have a referral code you would like to redeem, use this code and redeem it (and yes you need someone to refer you IF you don't already have a tracfone). It is totally separate from the 1 year card that you are probably referring to. Obviously, you wouldn't want to use this 30 minute bonus code on that card when you can get 200 minutes instead.

Does anyone know how the folks on eBay are taking EMSI #'s from in-use phones and then e-mailing you back a code that works? We all know about how to get referral minutes as long as the other phone is new and unregistered, but what about those where the phone is registered. These guys are getting their codes from Tracfone after receiving the EMSI number from the purchaser.

I want to know !!!!

they buy a phone from Tracfone. then they use your ESN number to refer that new phone which they buy from Tracfone. They get 120 minutes for your phone and 120 minutes for the new phone which they also sell. Simple!!!!!

I suspected as much. The trick, I see, is to sell the other phone and have a way to obtain them for less than $10 each and sell them with $30 worth of time, or 120 units, for $25 or something. Looks like a lot of hassle for only a few bucks.

Thanks op! Just worked for me!

Goooooooood
thanks op!

Thanks OP, just used the code and it worked!

What can I say! Thank you so much OP! Green for you OP!!

I had an 120 mintues referral airtime code that I wanted to use later so I can get extra days ( I already have 120 days) but then after seeing this I just used one airtime code online and I got 150 minutes!!!

It said ...

Congratulations!
You have successfully added airtime on your TracFone.
The following units of airtime have been added to your TracFone:

Regular Airtime
120 units - TracFone Prepaid Wireless Airtime Card
Promotional Airtime
30 units - Special Offer

150 units - Total Airtime

I am curious to know whether this promotion actaully ends on June 30.

ALSO I GOT A MESSAGE FROM TRACFONE ON MY BIRTHDAY JUST RECENTLY SAYING ADD/BUY 120 MINUTES AND GET 40 BONUS BIRTHDAY MINUTES. ENTER PROMO CODE 57534.

I am not sure whether anyone can use 57534 to get 40 bonus min when they add 120 free airtime code.
It didn't dawned on me when I used the other code OP mentioned..but now I think may be I should have tried this code first since I was adding 120 min anyways before I tried the OP's code.

Not sure any risk takers out there to use 57534 first before using the OPs code.

Any opinions on the Motorola V170 versus the Nokia 1100?

The nokia looks smaller, but no color screen... I don't know, I'm looking to buy another refurbed phone and both are offered. Anybody have any opinions on one over the other?

Thank You

I kinda remember seeing only Nokia 1100 has free roaming but I am not sure whether V170 has free roaming. You may need to check that out.

I got a call from Tracfone customer service (I am serious) and they asked me whether I am happy with Tracfone or have any questions/suggestions.

I suggested them to keep the referral program forever and see whether they can also increase it to 150 officially!!

Yeah
I received a call too all I heard was thousands of foreigners yakking and tons of garbled yip yap in the back ground with a huge delay and could barely here them. I KNEW IT WAS SOMEONE FROM TRACFONE!!!!

Thankws for the info pbushff. Also, for anybody who might be interested, I found a website that lets you do a side-by-side spec comparison of all brands & models of different cell phones. It also has reviews. It's at: http://www.phonescoop.com/

I have the 1100, and my wife has the v170. The points you make are both true; 1100 is more compact, but lacks a color screen. Both models offer free nationwide roaming (same rate for all calls), and free incoming text messages (which means you can also receive short emails on your phone, if you desire). Also, the v170 seems to have better reception, especially in buildings. I think it has something to do with the technology used in the v170, but I'm not too sure on the specifics.

If you have any questions on the above, I'll try to help out.

Also, don't forget to participate in Tracfone's referral program to get some extra minutes on your new phone. Most people here could probably help you out with that.

I used 57534 code online when I was adding 120 free referral airtime and I got 40 additional minutes!!

hi all - I need to get a prepaid that will be used for 20 days only. I estimate about 300 mins usage. which wud be the best option for me? tracfone or some other prepaid with free nights and weekends? thx

hedwigdaowl said: [Q]hi all - I need to get a prepaid that will be used for 20 days only. I estimate about 300 mins usage. which wud be the best option for me? tracfone or some other prepaid with free nights and weekends? thx

1. Buy this one online. Don't activate it.
2. Get a referral
3. Activate it after you received the referral's email from tracfone
4. Activate online and get 20 units free air time
5. Then, read this thread and follow it carefully

If you can not get your Nokia 1100 cellphone before 30 June, you can still get 120 units free air time.

totally cost: $20+tax+shipping
totally air time" 20+60+120(or150)>=200 air time

I have both of them and they BOTH have the free roaming feature.

The Nokia 1100 is more basic, is in B&W and is flat (rather than flip) I find that numbers get pushed on it accidentally when it is in your purse or pocket. But it does hold a charge much longer than the Motorolla.

The Motorolla is a flip phone and is my kids first choice (coolness). If you get this one, I recommend you get the $10 car charger that is offered. I didn't and had to pay a lot more ( and take 2 back) to find one that fits.

All in all, both phones are nice for the money. I referred myself when I bought the Motorolla and both phones got the ref. minutes. I was very pleased!

What if I buy a nokia 1100 from WalMart or Staples -without the 60 mins promotion that comes with the refurb. Can I still get the 120 +20 referral minutes without having to buy any airtime the first time around? If so, I can keep buying the $20 phones with no airtime, refer myself and transfer minutes and so on... too good to be true <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border=0>

Yes..you can.

I am pretty sure you would get 20 + 120 referral minutes too, I did this myself, I normally went to CVS pharmacy with a $5 off coupon so get the new tracfone for about $15, that's exactly the same one as sold in WalMart, it says 10 minutes airtime included, if you go through a referral link and activate online you should get 20 min start time and 120 referral mins.

Where is the $5 coupon for CVS?

cool.. now I need to find these $19 fones as I cant wait for these guys to ship them to me. I cant find any at Staples/RadioShack/WalMart. where else can I find these?

I got on the STIMobile deal in dec - the one at Staples.

How is STI Mobile inferior to Tracfone.

The good thing I see with STIMobile is that the minutes don't expire
But there is a daily charge of 10c = $3/mo

Kinda confused... any thoughts?

macbuff said: [Q]Where is the $5 coupon for CVS?

I am lucky to get a few booklets from my local CVS store, there are 12 $5 off $20 coupons last from today to 9/16/2006, you can get such coupons in eBay for a couple of Dollars too.

I saw it everywhere from WalMart, target to CVS. If you can't find it, probably because this phone is not compatible with the service in your area. Please call tracfone cs to make sure.

some office dept and office max stores carry these..

Confirming received 120 referral minutes + 40 bonus minutes TODAY. Did not get the 60 days airtime extension because current due date is 10/06. Shoulda waited for it but needing the minutes badly, well at least got the 40 extra. Thanks beatmesweety.

Tacfone sucks. Spent three weeks trying to get them to
set my phone up. MANY calls and emails. No luck. Lot's
of please waits and sorry to hear you're having problems.

Smashed the phone, and gave the battery to a friend. Heard
this is a standard problem with them....

Go with STi! Had them for two years and NO problems.

You still got some extra days though, right? Just not the full 60?

I have done everything online with Tracfone and I love Tracfone. I am sure it will last as long as they continue to offer free referral minutes. I didn't have to call them for any reason. I am happy with Tracfone.

I think you are right, thanks for pointing it out. I redeemed on 6/28 and Tracfone extended a few days to 10/28/06 so I guess the 4-month rule applied.

Skipping 168 Messages...
Does anyone know what is going on with the refer a friend program? I keep seeing new auctions posted but when I go to the Tracfone website their is nothing about the tracfone refer a friend program as if it has been permently discontinued but this makes no sense if people are selling the minutes.
