Not trying to thread crap or anything, just my experience with this player.
I actually think it's pretty good for the price, but it drives my wife crazy. We've had it for a couple years and it works pretty good. The only bad thing is that the video freezes up at times repeatedly. We just have to turn the power off for a couple seconds, then back on. It'll work great for a week or so and then need it again. Probably if we didn't leave it powered on all the time it wouldn't be an issue.

Also not paying royalties to Philips which recently got FBI involved that ceased over 30,000 players.

How do I know if a DVD player is multi-region or not? I am looking for a quality one with this feature so we can play some DVDs/VCDs bought overseas. Thanks.

There is actually a region hack for this...I think it's posted on videohelp.com.
Anyways, I have this player as my MP3 player for the home theater. It works very well since it plays MP3s on DVD. Not many players can do that. The player does support PAL/NTSC(actually lot of the cheaper players do). I did notice that though that newer firmware on this does not allow DTS output. I bought this from WorstBuy about a year ago and I had to go back and get an unit with older firmware to get my DTS output.
Edit: I don't think this is hot but it is warm. I think the Phillips 642 that also played divx and was selling for 40 bucks(maybe it still is) was hot!
