works for me ( and my kids )
the frames held up better than the ones from our regular (retired) eye doctor.
We picked out a nice decorative frame for my daughter and one bendable Titanium frame.
there's been discussions on FW in the past

I've used their service before. The cheapest frames are not the most stylish but if you spend $20 more you'll get something you like. But definitely the best out there. I got glasses from them a little over 2 years ago. One frame cracked recently but definitely lasted more than I had hoped for. I am very rough with my glasses and I'm happy with their service. Definitely will recommend!

they don't take many insurance companies, but you could try submitting it to your own insurance company. I didn't bother, yet, because it was cheaper out the door than going with my traditional eyeglass place co-pays, ect.
the Spectera is mentioned because they just recently added them to their insurance coverage list.

So you want, moon, stars and earth in $70...lol
BTW High index lenses are included in this deal, but not the thinner ones. This is a great deal for fresh eye exam and great for 2 glasses including lenses ( specially glasses you use at bed time as I use contact lenses during the day), specially kids as they get thinner lens in this price.
Great find OP, Green for you

Don't go to the America's Best in Dupont Circle, Washington DC. The doctor is a horror, no wonder he works at America's Best. I'm never going back to any of their stores again. The frames are anything but stylish.

There is a place right around the corner. Might have to have my mom check it out. Luckily, I have vision insurance through work that pays most of my stuff.

I was there last week to try to get into the deal. Here's the scoop: deal only applies to people with vision -2<=prescription<=2 each eye and with no astigmatism. They give you regular lenses and there's no warranty on the lenses. If you bring in your own frame the cost is around 30 per lense and 39.95 for eye exam. There're different protection package you can buy for your lenses, I went with Verilite which has 1 year coverage and they'll replace lenses with any sort of damage...they will see me at the 11-12 month to get new lenses. Verilite is 27.95

If you go to the DC location, be prepared to wait for hours and go through what feels like institutionalized assembly-line optical care.
I wouldn't go there again if it the exam, glasses, and contacts were all free.

Hey, I heard something about getting a complete set of glasses shipped from a place in China - apparantly they were quite good in terms of quality and very cheap. Was I dreaming or does someone know what I'm talking about?

this is a great deal. the eye exam alone costs around $50. One important thing you should keep in mind: ask the clerk for the total cost (there's usually additional costs involved).

Do they examine eyes over the phone or virtually through web? Obviously not, but you had to put that incredibly insightful comment in, didn't you?

Sorry for doing such an assholish thing like asking a related question in a thread about glasses. Can you send me your address so that I may reimburse you for the time spent reading my question? Would you accept a money order?

I've seen it too, here's a previous FW thread with some links
This deal has been going on for years. I joined their club about 10 years ago. In my opinion, $99 for 3 or 5 years (it used to be for 5 years, now it's only for 3 years, I think) with unlimited free eye exams is worth it. Some may say that their doctors are not great, but I just don't see how complicated a basic eye exam can be. They are pretty much computerised. If you think something's wrong with your eyes, you can always go do more detailed exams. The nice thing is you can get your updated prescription there and shop for cheaper contact lenses online if you want to. Although I've always get mine from them. If you're a member, their prices on contact lenses are pretty reasonable. If you're not a member, the prices will be ridiculously expensive.

Was I dreaming or does someone know what I'm talking about? That was zennioptical.com and I've been very happy when purchasing half-frame bi-focals though them for the past few years. I need to start thinking about ordering another pair.
