Good deal, OP!

Everyone should use more than one anti-spyware scanner in addition to one memory-resident anti-spyware software. One tool will not detect or remove them all. The chances of acquiring spyware are greatly reduced by not using Internet Explorer for general web surfing. Safer and more fully-featured web browsers are: Firefox, Opera, Safari.

Free anti-spyware tools to use in addition to a commercial tool such as Webroot Spy Sweeper:
Lavasoft Ad-Aware Personal Edition
Spybot Search & Destroy
Microsoft Windows Defender

Key Points:

1) Remember to use the built-in update buttons in Ad-Aware and Spybot to get the latest signatures.

2) Be careful not to enable the memory-resident spyware blocking features of more than one program, as they will likely conflict.

3) Firefox. Opera. Safari. Only use Internet Explorer when you are absolutely sure of the site you're visiting. Even a typo in the site (such as "www.fattwallet.com") can take you to a site that will try to install malicious software. IE 7 Beta is supposed to be more secure than previous versions, but it is not proven and crackers can take advantage of unpublicized vulnerabilities.

Great deal. Thanks OP! Downloaded a 2 year subscription.

You can usually get retail boxes for FAR with competitive rebates (Mcafee, Norton, CA). I have 3 waiting in the wings that I've acquired in the past year. Each box has a year subscription, even if it's the same version.

thankyou!

Internet Essentials is free after two $20 MIRs at C@mpUSA (one is competitive rebate)if you pickup instore. Otherwise $5 shipping.

Internet Essentials has:
Webroot SpySweeper
Webroot Window Washer
Webroot Spam Shredder
Webroot Pop Up Washer.

Spy Sweeper is great but I hate that they started making you pay for it.

It's a great supplement to S&D, adaware, etc and generally is successful at finding/cleaning a few things the other two big ones can't find.

So do you hqave to wait for the first one to expire before adding the next year's sub ?

I think I'm just gonna do the one year for $4.95 and gamble for a free upgrade sometime in late 2007 (when my 5 buck year expires). I have SpySweeper now that will expire in November. I'll just activate my $5 year then and comb this board for another deal/free copy of SpySweeper.

Thanks OP even though I'm too cheap to spring for the extra $10.

Good deal.....

Thnx OP !!!

..........................................

OP you rock! I had to pay $19.95 a couple months ago because this was the only program that would remove some spyware I had picked up, now I can put it on the kids 'puter too! Green!

I got 1 year for 5.41 including tax.

On the checkout page, I added the extra year like the op said, I entered the coupon in the box, and then I click (Coupon Policy) and it showed the 14.95 total. Then I removed the extra year, and checkout for 4.95 plus tax.

This is even hotter, isn't it? This technology changes so fast, who knows what will be the best in 1 year from now.

Come on now...it's not just white guys doing this stuff.

Good deal and no rebates! Thanks. In for 1 year only.

Thanks OP, in41yr

couple of questions:
1. My current copy expires in Nov, can I add my new license key now or do I wait untill Nov. when my current copy expires?
-i.e. if I add my new license now will it last untill Nov. 2007 or will it last only untill July 2007 ?
2. Do I need to uninstall/reinstall when I activate or can i simply change/add the new key ?

TIA,
-BassKozz

Thanks! Picked up an additional 2 year subscription. Just seems easier than dealing with rebates for a bunch of products I'm not going to use.

This is way better for me, thanks.

I clicked and it shows $49.99 minus 2 $20 rebates making it $10 plus tax on $50.
I use Free AVG and Free ZoneAlarm. Anyone know if they take screenshots for the competitive upgrade for the $20 rebate?

I don't see the point in paying for something you can get for free...

Free Webroot scan.
Just scans, doesn't remove. But good enough if you are cheap like me.

In for a year. Great price!

You wait until your current license expires. The link OP provided is for a new subscription, not a renewal.

2. Do I need to uninstall/reinstall when I activate or can i simply change/add the new key ?

Not sure. I clicked on the 'renew now' link w/in my current copy of SS (it expires in 16 days) and it brought me to a page w/ a $9.99 renewal. Not as good a deal as OP's. I used OP's link and got the 2 years for $15, and got sent a new serial altogether. I'm hoping to use it to renew my current copy, but if nothing else I can just uninstall/reinstall and use my new key. HTH.

That's like saying you are just going to scan for viruses once a day. Are you too cheap to change the oil in your car? Some things are neccessary.

Bump for a great deal. Went with $4.95 for a year. Thanks to the OP!

good deal man.
I used to download the pirated version, but I got converted - and.. what da heck. $4 for well done program?
Green !!

Since you asked.

My car without oil won't run while computers without active antispyware software work fine for me.
I have only one (good) antivirus running with a router firewall since the past 2 years. Seems to have worked fine for me.

I am not dissing this deal, just providing an alternative to those who do not wish to buy one more security solution (after spybot, adaware, ms defender, some antivirus). The free scanner detects the same thing the paid version detects. So if you do not tend to get spyware that often spending on a removal tool is just overprotection. Just my opinion. Yours might be different.

You forgot Javacools Spywareblaster. There is absolutely no reason to pay for antispyware with these four free software tools available.

I use the free anti-spyware programs mentioned and I also use Spysweeper because I firmly believe in running the program. Bought a 2 year sub myself a year ago for the $49.95 price, but I personally would not boot up my pc without it.

Sorry bro, but you are misinformed. The program has a "guard" just like AV software which prevents the problem. If we go with your theory, you are better off getting treated for an STD, rather than preventing it.

The software is well with 5 bucks for a year, no opinion on that.

Anyone?

1) Wait until your current sub expires, then activate.
2) Follow the instructions they gave you when you bought the sub. By the time you exten your sub. in Nov, there should be a new version out. Just install the latest version (no need to uninstall) and enter in the activation key at installation.

Good deal for one of the better anti-spyware programs out there. It is true that there are many free programs out there that help in the eradication of spyware, but it is also true that they only help. It is only when this product is used in conjunction with multiple products that an infection can truely be contained. If one keeps up with proper maintenence, it is most likely that one will not even need these multiple programs mentioned. However, in my experience with computers, this is unlikely.

Great--especially as an employee of the Geek Squad, I receive this product for 7 bucks. For less than 5 bucks, I, nor you, can go wrong

I got it for $5 also. A few days ago I upgraded to the new release and now one of my systems has been super slow, locking up and crashing. I just removed it and now it seems fine again. Has anyone else seen a problem with the new upgrade?

YES! I searched the internet and others are also having the same problem.

They blame the problems on greater memory requirements:

After Installing Spy Sweeper 5.0 I am having system performance issues.
When Webroot upgraded Spy Sweeper to version 5.0, we increased the minimum system requirements from 128 mb of RAM to 256 mb. Some users, that have limited resources of RAM, might see the performance of their machine slow after upgrading because of this.

But, it has a Rating of one half star based on 219 Votes so this may not be the only problem with the 5.0 release.
